Minifigure Head Decoration Palette
SpiderSpaceman replied to CM4Sci's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Wait a minute, we know how to do that now? drooooooool -
I still say it's nothing but horrible cruelty that the only parts I want (longhorn skull) are exclusive to a huge set.

this is the correct torso for scaramanga -
This one I have no issues with. Perfect redesign.

Love it! not completely sold on the tip with the lightsaber bars but everything else is gold.

Hear hear. Can somebody repost these on a site that doesn't suck?

I am also super stoked about all the new accessory love that city is getting the earmuffs, and also, if you search in pick a brick, tool wheel 11402 - Adds a 4 way lug wrench, a ratchet wrench, adjustable wrench, and updates the screwdriver, oilcan, and drill (which I hate by the way, because it's got the little battery pack under the handle, and that kills the usefulness.)

Legends of Chima 2013
SpiderSpaceman replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Well drop me in the camp of those who love the shunned prototype species. I want those protoCrocs and Gorillas (whose final version I find ickily kewpie-esque). They actually seem production-worthy to me, the protocrocs (who I think actually look a bit like the Little Mermaid eels) not out of place among the recently produced hilarious cast of muto-atlantean warriors, and far, far more appealing than the shameful one-off designs of mutated ninja turtle baddies and some of the toy story figs (not you, buzz, zurg, twitch, the three eyed aliens or woody minus a head. I loves you guys). The protoGorillas have a typical tough sci-fi "born for war" look (wookiee/klingon/ape of the "Planet" variety). The protoLions I also like, though I think they look more Otterlike. (not a bad thing! love me some otters) The protoEagles, much like the gorillas, don't have bizarre little hairdo swooshes so again, I think they'd have made a lovely non limiting head. Good for mascots. EDIT: forgot to mention the croc speedor with enormous fists. I think I'm going to try that out -
Boobs are a No-go on LEGO CUUSOO
SpiderSpaceman replied to Holly-Wood's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Breaking this down by paragraph: 1.) False. http://legocuusoo.po...ms-of-service-a 2.) Agreed. However, I do think there could stand to be a few new archetypal body types, to somewhat standardize those figures that don't fit the standard form - take gollum for example. I played around with making a new construction for him that grants the look of a true minifig, keeps his posture, and leaves him as much articulation as a regular fig, and could also be repurposed as yoda or any similarly statured/postured wizened old person. It's all about matching the aesthetic, and actually on the grounds of my cooking up alternate body types, I probably can't really dismiss the boobs torso without being a hypocrite... On the flipside, these would only be used where the body would become a one time nonstandardized mold, and as you say, they've been making female figs the same body type for years and it works fine. it doesn't require a new body type to get the point across (even if printed waistlines are really freakin silly.) -
That's one of the most fun vehicles I've seen in a long time. I love the shape: Wouldn't even need to be a banana if just the colors were altered, with the novelty gag (which to clarify, does make it that much greater) removed, nobody could question that it's a grade A sci-fi model in it's own right - that's often not the case with novelty themed creations but it really demonstrates that your effort in the design isn't secondary to the gag. The offset of the tracks and chassis is wild, the angles are all cool. The hidden thrusters and liftoff from the tracks were completely unexpected but I can tell they're not just gimmicky afterthoughts; they're well integrated and just add even more cool to the model. Good luck in the contest!

Good job on a very cool non-figure construction in the hero factory system. The pteranodon in the high tech portal scene reminded me that I've got to build the Torchwood Cardiff base, a similar situation of that animal accidentally getting dropped off into a futuristic environment (it's a very well done example of a secret facility, even though I find the show it comes from has most of it's entertainment value and thought-provocation outweighed by crippling bleakness)

Haha I love this! The concept, the realized model... The robot suit couldn't be cooler, and I like the way you bounded the (jaw-droppingly fantastic) beach panic scene, with the hinges holding the loose studs of sand and sea around the built scenery. Pressure washer head obliteration is not the best way to go

The shoulder buddy role reversal is my favorite part of this . And I love the use of recognizable pirate supplies suggesting the parrot nagging parts to cobble the robot together bit by bit. "Where did those barrels go?" 3 weeks later "Oh come on! I needed the helm! mates you better confess or I'll start keelhauling ye!" parrot sneaking up behind casting huge robo shadow "Mr. Crackers, how could ye? what are ye doi.. Aaaargh! put me down!"

Too damn cool! This could hold its own as an official set, and for an alternate to a set that size, it's amazing how well you could get something that doesn't scream "I'm made from a limited assortment" or look like a minor modification/reconfiguration. Thanks for sharing!

Boobs are a No-go on LEGO CUUSOO
SpiderSpaceman replied to Holly-Wood's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreeing with posts 39-41 (but I gotta mention, Mr. Phes: I think the particular term you picked almost exclusively refers to a certain temporary state rather than the part itself...) -
Yeah, it's just an english correction, Wedge. Groups of both male and female don't default to the male plural. So for example, where in spanish (romance language family) abuelo + abuela = abuelos, in english (germanic language family) grandfather + grandmother ≠ grandfathers. There's always either a seperate word (grandparents, children) or you use both. (grandmother and grandfather, son(s) and daughter(s)) Which I say just for the sake of anyone who isn't aware that some languages work the one way, others work the other. Someone who grew up with one language (or family of languages) won't necessarily think the conventions of another are obvious.

Legends of Chima 2013

So, I'm wondering if we're gonna get non-anthropomorphic miniscale animals for lions, wolves, rhinos and gorillas. because of the whole thing in that preview where one of the lions is riding a lion lion, together with the fact that they have a big old eagle mold to debut in LOTR sets (bears and crocodiles are already things but I can see a redone croc with more meat to it and the new smooth printed aesthetic over the classic molded indent eyes) -
Mine is "The kid kicking the skull on the cover of roll the bones" (because there is sadly no designated spiderspaceman yet. I think this shall be my week's miniproject.)

Just realized that the eagle striker is flipping the bird: http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=5701631 And Eglor is wild, I didn't realize how contemporarily militarized he was. He almost looks like a birdyhead shield agent, just missing the (shield) eagle logo. -

I got target's service personnel to track down their box of chi battles. They had it. Buuuut the gal was being obedient to the "do not shelf until the 1st" But I drove down the street and found it (and ring of fire) from toys r us. Sorry you're having such a hard time. Oh and I got the raven glider, pack tracker, and reptile grabber from walmart friday night. Huzzah for the baddies -
REVIEW- 30213- Gandalf at Dol Guldur
SpiderSpaceman replied to Slobey's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Step 1 to 2 confused me as well but I finally interpreted the opposite (no turning). The thing is, you expect the slope in step one to peek out from behind the slope added to the foreground of step 2. It turns out to be completely hidden, just barely. it's almost kind of a visual illusion. -
My recollection is that he mentioned at the 2.0 launch that the spears were made of the more expensive soft plastic (which I believe was a clarification to people mistakenly calling them "rubber" in reviews), and that they're a real luxury.
