2012 LEGO Boardgames Rumours & Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to Oky's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ilrion bugs me a little bit. The spartan decoration doesn't really evoke the feel of what the scene is supposed to be as well as the other sets do. The figures are great. The vampire's lair is pretty great. But this is a catacombs converted to a sewer system, or something? Because "catacombs" does not equal "flooded" - that's only in Spielberg's Venice. Are the pumps specifically trying to flush out the undead? Because that's probably a good idea. It also makes sense to have the vampire around with zombies rising out of the catacombs, I'm sure he's responsible anyway. and maybe we're trying to flush him out and can't get to him, which is why we're traveling down there anyway, and why his room is so starkly different from the rest of the board. But that's a bit too much backstory for this little board game, right? The catacombs don't really have any visual cues to say "these are ancient burial tunnels." The secondary water color is a little too evocative of ice. eh, whatever. Still getting it as soon as i see it -
Oohoohoo: See foreground. now that's a snake mech prototype

Got an extra Series 7 viking woman and the Ninjago NRG Kai and Chokun set. Say, is there a thread like this, but with guilt? I think I honestly need a compulsive buyers rehab accountability topic...
-
but but but.. You're just switching heads of official sets. That's not even as creative as the little kids who stack 10 different colors of bionicle sets on top of each other

I was expecting the Vashta Nerada. and then you said "two shadows", and I was even more expecting the Vashta Nerada. This is a nice scene though, good job!

A grim reaper would make a fantastic primary antagonist. -
Oh crap. he's gonna be all stickers, isn't he?

I'm feeling really impatient to get XT4's skeleton (speaking of torsos)

LEGO Superheroes 2012 Rumours & Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Licensed
The jam-packed Marvel movie schedule really terrifies me though. I think it's going to heavily restrict Lego's Marvel offerings... taking up all the space that could be used for 'classic comics' sets, like all the DC Super Heroes sets we've got. Though I'm thinking they could hopefully do a flip. Make most sets comics-based like the single x-men set we've got, and just throw in one smaller tie-in set per movie. -
Except don't buy it there, because as Aanchir linked to earlier, it's $20 at amazon. Scru TRU.

Oh excellent! The guy with the shades has elvis hair again! (seem to recall seeing that first, then City boy hair in it's place. Which would have just been messing up perfection for no good reason) -
The image used for the shield must be a prototype, since it has an axle rather than an axle receptacle.

I love NRG Cole on account of his balrog-uity. But my favorite NRG ninja has got to be Jay. And I really can't wait for Spitta

Mmmm, don't think so, I'd definitely call this guy a zombie. I think he's just supposed to be well dressed for his funeral, because the female zombie's the same way. and it is called "The Zombies" - not "a solitary zombie and a voodoo practitioner who is just as dead and has to bother to voodoo himself while doing his dark deeds". I don't think there are any race issues with a witch doctor. Just make a standard lego yellow version of the POTC cannibal and give him a feathered stick and a wooden tiki mask that comes down over half the torso. Not saying that that's what the guy looks like but y'know. -
I should just check myself, but is this all alone in new availability or do they have more new items along with it? Man, as always, that card art is fantastic. NRG Kai is schweet
-
Brickthing you are the man. Exactly what I was wanting when I'd made this topic, only I didn't put in the effort you have. Love it, and yes, cuusoo that shtuff.

Amen to that.

Except you mean... because 702pc.

Hardly. NYCC had the same superman as the wide release set, in addition to the exact same figures given out at SDCC. And not to sass a mod, but what on Earth are you trying to say in the last two paragraphs? Rabid rabid fans go out of their way (maybe to conventions, maybe getting scammed in resales) to have collectibles. Lego shouldn't make their fans (kids and more) go out of the way. I'm sure many more parents would shell out 4 bucks and shipping for a cool little figure than take their kid across the country (or world) to a big old convention. Precisely! Which has never been Lego's style - otherwise, they're notedly huge on the customer satisfaction issue.

I built the Iron Patriot combiner model and now I almost like it too much to take apart. doesn't help that I pose him with discus pulled way back and make him say norman osborne-y things in Willem Dafoe's voice.
-
Never. We don't have a lego store or anything, but they totally used us as a major miniland location. Master model builders have all sorts of new orleans under their belts that would be fantastic display in the actual tourist location. Wut gives. And NYCC is exactly what I'm talking about. They did distribute the same "comic con exclusive" figures there last year. So if you're covering east coast and west coast already, why not help out some kids who can't travel that far and hit southeast too? I'm sure it would boost attendance for the new orleans comic con, because it is a less famous convention, and I'm sure they'd love to get a bit of an extra credibility, extra draw for fans to show up, and local publicity for the comics industry. (Everybody's heroes are the heroes of Marvel and DC, but there are independent artists who can do great work outside the bounds of franchise perpetuation. Anyone who's ever had dreams of telling epic fiction/making comics should have a bit of camaraderie with these folks.) God knows San Diego doesn't need the extra draw because they are world-famous, and every other exhibitor already does exclusives - Lego could be the non-evil exception and have more of a "tour" mentality, just like a concert tour sell tour t-shirts that tell everybody "look, I went to see RUSH on one of these limited number of appearances! My socks were rocked off." It's still something you can only get if you make the effort, but it's not so (br)ickish. And I understand that with art prints, you can only make a certain number of prints and give the buyer this lovely proof that says xx of 100, but why should Lego buy into that? Not that minifigures aren't fantastic works of art, and in fact far more artfully designed and styled than any hoity-toity vinyl designer toys, but Lego has never been one to lord over it. Even when they started blind-packing the Collectible Minifigures, they didn't charge $10 a pop and put them in rigid cm*cm*cm boxes. And yes, the stateside exclusivity is another very good reason to adopt a touring exclusives model, and one of the main reasons I was compelled to beg. the end.

I've got something that it seems to me would be Lego Ambassador territory: I don't want to miss out on a superheroes character. I don't even wanna miss out on a variation of a character that might appear else-wise. For instance, if they were to make an original look Storm for wide release but make a mohawked Storm as a comic-con giveaway, I would be heartbroken. I cannot think of a comic book character they could make that a kid would not want. Can we at least ask that they bring exclusive figures to.. More comic conventions? (New Orleans would rock.)

Hahaha sweet Jesus, those are not 'elf eyes'

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The reflective silver around the edges can overpower it but from non-glarey angles it doesn't bother me. it does stand out a little better in the source material. The rock star girl is my surprise favorite. Her hair is gonna end up as some dr seussian flora though -
2012 LEGO Architecture News & Discussion
SpiderSpaceman replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm a sucker for any set with a 16x16 plate. Also square cones. Oh, and the texturing with the grilles is one of my favorite microscale techniques. (I'm using something similar in my own rendition of a 'minecraft micro world' - Nether Fortress window bars). But damn, $30. I'd rather just keep saving for a tower bridge.
