I think there are few four studs wide boom with 2 extendible sections, (3 sections total), There is a cable on first picture that extend section, probably not motorized, but could be easily with one M motor. Nice to see two solutions for the same problem! Great work on your side! Jennifer model is a great base, and you have improved it even more!

Davekuhh's Detailed LEGO models

I am sure many of use here can not visualize how big it actually is. Can I suggest that you made one non edited picture with the model next to the chair or something? Or you standing next to it? Just to be able to put it in perspective. -
Welcome to the biggest Lego forum!

Hi, If you would like to sell those sets, I would suggest you to check out Bricklink There you can see the prizes and maybe make an account there and try to sell them there. Otherwise try Ebay for example. You can try to sell them here, in the Market section of the forum. This site has a lot of members, but it is prohibited to join just for the purpose of the selling. You also need to have 100 posts to be able to post there. I can tell you right now that 8868 starts from 100USD, all the way to 500USD. I tried to sell it before, but changed my mind! Good luck.

What type of outriggers would you like to install? Extending, like on original build? Star type? Or upright, like on the video? On six alxe cranes, they are placed at the very back and between 2nd and 3rd axle, but since you dont have carrier's cabin and carrier's engine (with their weight, they influence where the outriggers will be), you can place them just anywhere. I would suggest putting them at equal distance from your turntable. Probably best at the very ends, so they dont interfere with the steering setup.

This model has very warm feeling to me, cos this was one of my first post-dark-ages models, but in 1:13 scale.. I can advise you right now that you pay attention to the strength of the frame and to the outriggers box, cos it holds the whole superstructure, outriggers and truck chassis together. Also, it may be better to NOT make extending outriggers, but just the the swinging outriggers. That way it will be stronger and less complex in that crucial area. Keep up, I will follow this one with interest!

Old or new turntable? Well done if you are using old one. New one seems to have much smoother operation, judging from the reviews. Respect! You forgot the weight!- 89 replies

This is quite nice looking. And big, too! Keep ut the great progress, i am very interested in following this! Although I am not sure why did you try to modify the (great) idea from the concept where the trailer is crane, and the truck is pulling it. I mean, you could make it less complex and sturdier with trailer steering and truck driving and steering. You could have more concentrate on that steerng and driving issues you have. Also, it will make room for larger outriggers, that could match that huge boom. Just make sure the truck in the entry pictures is different from 9397. We dont want MODed set in the entry.

As answered by vectormatic, yes. Best to do in such case (not practical for you now) is to build 2 axle crane. That way you can have regular steering and crab steering, with two steering motors and simple setup. We had topic that covers your questions, but as i remember, it did not solve the issue of regular and crab steering on multi axle crane.

Woow! Very intimidating! And awesome look. You did not waste your time during the silence period. Does the turntable has problems during rotation? Has it some kind of rollers? One note: I would change the color of the crane cab to all red, or to be same color, like this did not see the cab, t may be better if it is more noticeable.- 89 replies

If you have same steering angles on all the axles, and your vehicle, or in your case - crane :) - is long, tires closer to the center of the vehicle would tend to stay straight. Ideally, you would want to make different steering angle for every axle, to minimize tire wear and increase efficiency and smooth operation. For crab steer, all the axle steer the same. However, some big older cranes have the option to lift the middle axle(s) off the ground, while the rest of the tires turn all in the same direction. For your question, it is best not to leave any axle unsteered in crab mode, as it will drag and bend and cause problems during crab steering.
