Do you want to build something specific, which was not covered so far? Regarding the deadline, Jim has always left a grace-period of few more days (even if he did not need to), to help thise few more entries get to the finish line. We could discuss this later (a month from now), but please, for now lets stick to the current deadline.

6x6 cargo truck (wip)

Nice one. I like the old school vibe on it. -
I agree. What i would love to see, besides great examples of big cranes, are medium to large models with great solutions to the most common weak spots, such as fully working (automated) outriggers, strong and working turntable with roller ring, efficient brick built actuators and few section boom. Or, for the tower cranes, fully working model with awesome trolley mechanism and stable operation. Of course, all that in nice aesthetic finish. And these are just the most common types of cranes.

[MOC] Monster Truck 'Hulk'
Milan replied to paave's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cant see the video right now, but looking at the pics, i am very impressed. Very well done! -
In one word, no. In few words...having built few cranes for lifting loads, i can relate to your question. But this is not heavy lifting contest. Also, there will be no way to limit what is or how much weights is ok. Lego can make cranes that rotate, luff boom, extend it twice and hoist, just with lego parts. Lets make the same thing, just stronger, with more functions and better looking.

We have alredy stated few times, beside the info in General rules and informations, that the crane section should be main part. If the entry is mobile crane, there will be a carrier unit included, which also has major role in "Crane", because it contains outrigger boxes and outriggers, strong chassis which will support turntable ring, maybe even with rollers.

As always with your designs, i like how sturdy and massive it is. Also great choice of the truck. Whats the plan for the superstructure and boom?- 89 replies

Arent you going with your mega-Knuckleboom-lots-of-thin-long-penumatics-in-three-version-marvel-crane? :) I was really looking forward to see that monster! Both :) And we want to enjoy in observing all those great cranes in motion. As with every video of the moc, try to present your model the best you can, with all the functions, modes, features etc. Hey, Leo was at Liebherr show also?

Just to make the crane that is better than the others :) Voters will decide. Obtaining any of the achievements you mentioned is certainly a plus! Exactly like 8436 is not allowed, since it cannot hoist. Also, The emphasis needs to be on the crane. So make the model that, when someone sees it, says: "Wow look at that crane!" and just then, few moments later: "Oh, it sits on a truck!" :)

You can make pretty much anything that does exist, that includes cranes that have adjustable suspension, so that they can kneel down or tilt up. But lets not steer too much into the unknown. Try to keep it within the boundaries of existing models, there are quite a few different models to choose from. Regarding Helicopter cranes: The emphasis needs to be on the crane. The helicopter part is just too big and it is overwhelming the rather small and discrete crane section, so not allowed. Regarding NASA skycrane: same as the above. The emphasis needs to be on the crane, so not allowed.
