  1. Yeah, it'd be sad for our only representation of space or castle to be another Chima-style action theme. It doesn't look like we're even getting a castle out of the deal?
  2. I actually felt exactly the opposite. The Brick Bounty is a slightly modified replica of the 2009 ship, but the land sets are far more detailed and include more features and better figs than the 2009 equivalents. My only complaint is that there aren't more of them.
  3. Agreed! Not to mention the added brick-built raft. And while I don't want to get into the debate, the Governor's Daughter is a unique figure and much more valuable than another soldier variation that you could easily pick up on bricklink or ebay.
  4. Oh, these look like Space/Diver characters.
  5. The longer I own this, the more striking and elegant it seems when I walk into the room. I really don't mind that the interior is simple.
  6. Still only the old series in Walgreen's and Target...
  7. Baseless speculation: could it be Santa's toy shop to complement last year's set? More elves, more machines?
  8. I think the balloon stand came out when the mixer was released, so there was a tie in there. Can't remember exactly when the hot dog stand came out, but I think it pairs well with Palace Cinema. At least in my neck of the woods there are hot dog carts outside the old theaters still.
  9. I've recently sold a couple of smaller bits of my collection. Not quitting but curating.
  10. Yeah tbh it rarely comes up, and when people see the modular buildings at my house they think they're awesome. But like I said, it's having a full and interesting life to contextualize the hobby that counts. If it's taking over your life, you might want to have a think about what's really going on.
  11. Yeah, that's what I meant. In 2013? I think it was, they had sets for the four seasons, e.g.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/191469926270?lpid=82&chn=ps Plus a couple of Christmas and one Thanksgiving set, I think.
  12. Totally love these! Am I right in thinking that last year there was a break until Halloween/Thanksgiving? Would be great to see a summer set of some kind...
  13. Sales tax actually can vary by county/city, so it's hard to know for sure if you're traveling even just locally. I normally just mentally add 10%, because it's almost always actually less and 10% is an easy number to work with. One more thing to note is that because sales tax is not the same as a VAT (which we don't have here), it can't be refunded at all when you leave the country like VAT often can be.
  14. I gave thumbs up to you, OTW, and also to the review titled "What's with all the Cookies?" It's kind of an important point that the "storyline" of this modular has to be explained in a way that the PR's "story" doesn't--there's a couple and the dude has a ring. If you lose the ring, the building still makes sense. The DO doesn't.
  15. I much prefer the FB style--showing off what the bricks can do, rather than molding new bricks with "brick" patterns. A few masonry bricks are fine but when they're the only detail the wall has, I'm less excited.
  16. I'm also a display-and-leave-it type, but my partner always comes along and adds little macabre changes--stuck the French waiter's head in the dumpster behind the PR, put rats in the cooking pot, fed minifigs to (apparently amphibious) LEGO sharks... This may be why we get along so well...
  17. Um, I think I want every one of these.
  18. Hm. I wonder if the stairs got moved indoors to look less like the PR? Too bad, because a fire escape would look great on this building... Hmm...
  19. When I ordered from S@H I just added 6 of the pearl gold window lattices to my cart for less than a dollar (6 x $0.15), since I already knew I wanted them. I love the PC. The building grand-looking, especially with the corner outward I don't mind the interior since mine is just on display. Have thought about modding the tower. But I agree with BirdofPrey5 that the "PALACE" sign and doors are totally sturdy enough for general moving-around; I've never had to reassemble either.
  20. Right on time, I should think. *If* it follows the pattern, I think we're due for a corner building.
  21. I have to say it's growing on me. The ground floor is really nice...
  22. Yes, but insulting the set as feminine and juvenile suggested that Jamie and AFOLs who like his work are failing some age- and gender-appropriateness standard. That's different from simply critiquing the building, which plenty of people do respectfully. I do agree that I'd like to see a resurgence of complex exterior detail. But I also thought PR had nice exterior features, even if it was smaller. Some things will always get prioritized over others.
  23. For what it's worth, I agree in large part with your assessment of the building, but the age- and gender-based insults that come with it are unnecessary and obscure your point. To me it's mainly that the upper two floors of the blue building that seem a little odd--are they part of the Barber Shop? But the door to the detective's opens onto the toilet and stairwell. So the upstairs is a studio that the man in the red ballcap has rented out to make his secret cookie den?
