Technic 2017 Set Discussion
zux replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
We still have some basic panels missing in colors we want (like blue) while TLG introduces same these parts in colors that we don't need. -
If you read the book called "Brick by brick" you'll find that LEGO was afraid of taking licensed kits into model range. They were afraid of everyone thinking "LEGO can no longer design their own sets". That's the risk they had to take and eventually this helped company surviving during its "dark age".

[MOC] American fire truck
zux replied to blaz62's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ha-ha, that water destroyed everything that was left after fire. It is good to see it keeps constant high pressure enough to do the actual fire fighting. Do you have any more details around the pump and pneumatic-hydraulic setup?- 8 replies

Thanks for comments I got these directly from LEGO via "Bricks and Pieces". There's nothing really much to show. I've tried controlling the model in open space a while ago and it was horrible. Smartphone gives no feedback and you just don't feel if you already reached maximum turning angle or not. Turning wheels the other side to counter steer (it drifted a bit on smooth surface) is not possible.Need to find game controller suitable for SBrick before I could do decent video. I had quite a few options with wheels. Had to ask for advise as other options looked good too. These in pearl gold would be a better option, but price isn't very very friendly.

Managed to fulfill several things I wanted to do for a long time with this new model. First thing first - built in blue. This colour isn't very common in Technic area - part variety is limited and some are harder to obtain. Next thing I wanted to get my hands on, after seeing wonderful James Tillson builds, are these new Technic panels. Bought a bunch of them recently and finally had a chance to explore the possibilities. Ended up using 15 smaller and 4 longer panels. Some shapes are just wonderful thanks to them. Last thing I wanted to incorporate were RC motor with SBrick. Model is medium sized and thanks to smaller battery box everything is well hidden. Thanks to that model has interior. Oh and controlling model with smartphone is horrible (worse than running after model with IR stuff). Need to find a physical controller. Model features opening doors and suspension. Rear is nothing special - RC motor is used as arm with two hard springs. The front is a bit special due to lack of space - it has torsion bar setup. More pictures on Flickr

Detection of Colision
zux replied to Jarema's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Part snapping works for most of the pieces in LDCad. I think this feature is enabled by default. In terms of part collision in LDCad - there's no such feature, so you'd better know your bricks and their possibilities. Most of the time it is possible to zoom in and see if parts actually intersect. Not ideal, but still better than nothing -
Winter Trial Truck Help
zux replied to Alex Ilea's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
These motorcycle tires are probably the best for winter TT (if you have enough for 2 pcs. per wheel). They have grippy surface and are narrow (which is good). Wide LEGO tires doesn't seem to have deep protector so they are going to just slip. Tracks are the worst unless you add liftarms on them to increase grip. But then again if track will have some inclined track this might not help at all. -
Did you check spam and the rest of your folders in email? EB account settings as well? I can confirm that it works - I don't usually get any PMs, however I got some this week and proper notification poped up in my email.

How to recognize BrickLink color of a Lego element
zux replied to Lapidem's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It is also convenient to have (collectable) minifigures as these tend to have many parts in different colours. I use this method for identifying shades of blue and pink/purple/violet as the rest is quite obvious. -
This would work for very limited amount of time until there's friction. I remember one of Nico CVT 4x4's had similar implementation to switch between two operation modes. After a while system wasn't working as intended and produced constant torque instead of variable.

Wrong color on set 42000?
zux replied to Kim72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For unknown reason LEGO started producing pistons and crankshafts in Bright Light Orange instead of Yellow now. -

Gnac, that's a great compilation! Few more pieces from me: Pneumatic T Piece New Style (T Bar) in Pear Gold (75524) Not sure if many have discovered that new "Brick, Round 1 x 1 d. 90 Degree Elbow - No Stud - Type 2 - Axle Hole" piece, which seems to be quite useful, has already been released in Black, LBG, Yellow, Orange with Red to come.- 5,512 replies

My first PAB experience. Sadly, no Sand Green parts were found in Warsaw LEGO store. Oh, and we weren't allowed to fill in the stud in cover stud :(

Looking at how gradually current PF system has been introduced I wouldn't expect LEGO would change the whole system in one go. Older electric systems are still good for today - look at sough-after RC motors, micro motors, even older 9V motors are being used. Current PF system is and I think will be relevant in the future.

Difference between C & D models?
zux replied to teos's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Community calls any alternate model consisting parts from a given set as "C-model". Some people produce more than one alternate model so they start calling them D, E... models.- 3 replies

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
zux replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
9398 was a flagship for 2012 and we are speaking about 1H2017 member? So 42065 fit its purpose in product line. And if performance is going to be good this set is going to sell well. I wouldn't call it RC though. -

Woah-woah-woah. V2 Receiver was designed for 2x L-motors. Remember 9398 where it appeared originally? -

Yeah, noticed new worm gear as well. 1L beam already exist in Flat Silver though. Noticed about 25 recolours and HTF parts brought back with H1 sets. -

Curious to see how 42065 will perform with M-motors. I had made similar creation weighting somewhat close, but with L-motors instead. That one was a pretty quick and agile.
