  1. Interesting question will be neat to see the results of the data once you've collected it. Tough choices...but here goes. 1) Pet Shop: it offered some unique building techniques with the bay windows and it separated into two separate buildings. The floors were well utilized to give it that homely feel. 2) Green Grocer: having missed out on buying it I made my own from scratch. It was a lot of fun to build and has loads of character. The colour scheme was attractive. 3) Town Hall: I really liked the TH when I first saw it. It was the largest building to date and has cool features like the council chamber, receptionist desk, lift, mayor's office and conference table. 4) Parisian Restaurant: I loved this set ever since I saw the inital photos. Building it was a delight as it utilized many advance techniques and had some fun surprises. The artist's studio loft was so much fun. 5) Fire Brigade: The building is iconic. I really liked the interior furnishings and the use of the tripartite window on the facade. 6) Grand Emporium: This was the modular that hooked me on the series. I didn't find the build repetitious and it has lots of play value. The mannequins in the windows were very appealing. My only complaint was to have more goods on the upper floors. 7) Cafe Corner: love the building and I made this from scratch as well. However the reason it is low on the list is the lack of an interior and the use of the older doors which are terribly expensive to get a hold of. The colour scheme is superb! 8) Palace Cinema: the reason why this building is on the bottom of my list is that I didn't find it terribly appealing. I don't own it so I may change my mind once I do own it. 9) Market Street: I will make this from scratch when I get the money so that I have the complete series. The building itself is principally a box but I do like the stair case on the ground floor. Even though we don't have the Detective's office I admired the amount of work Jamie has put into the building. I think it's his best work to date. I'm eager to get my own copy and see for myself.
  2. Good to hear! Always happy to see TLG listen and fix issues.
  3. Aside from the competitor factor I'm not clear as to why they would want to keep things quiet? It is a pleasant surprise to say the least when a modular building is confirmed but other clone brands do not make modular buildings. Leaks although problematic in certain cases I think have the opposite affect when it comes to Lego products. In that it generates more 'buzz' and gets people excited and talking about it.
  4. I wasn't going to wait for double VIP points on this set. Especially after how it sold out in a day on initial release. I ordered it on Saturday, good thing I ordered some BnP too as they are now closed for till the end of January...now how do I find prices on parts without calling them? sigh... FYI for those seeking to buy one, I saw it listed on Toys R US website in Canada.
  5. Thank you very much Sven for your kind words. I was inspired by some of the various police stations on TV I've seen over many years. I was contemplating putting it on Lego Ideas but I have to make a business case for that. I figure if they were to do such a thing on ideas they would reduce the floor size by 6 studs or so to condense the space I believe. Incidentally I can fit a police 6 stud wide van onto the second floor haha I'm happy with the overall result as my elite police and police now have a proper office to work from. Thank you SeanJFry! Thank you Jasper!
  6. Honestly I would insulate your attic if you plan on displaying your sets there. The fluctuations in temperature will reduce clutch power and affect bricks while built. I had a forest men set built in my closet for 20 years and the pieces were expanding and contracting with the temperature gradually. -10 degrees Celsius and below is not recommended for bricks as is plus 30 degrees. It you plan on storing in your attic leave the bricks separated to ease the expansion and contraction.
  7. I like the colour scheme of your building SeanJFry. Will be great once you get the interior going. I was wondering about the first floor. The 1x4 bricks with the inverted slope I was thinking should be removed and use the similar technic from the second floor to add to its symmetry. Would it be better to utilize the same slope for the front door roofing all the way to the wall instead of a larger base in behind it? All in all you did an excellent job with this. Definitely has the right feel next to the other buildings.
  8. Another solid review and I really appreciated the interview with the Creative Lead of the design team. It's always fun and interesting hearing where their inspiration comes from. I'm really excited for this series. I would hope eventually we will get a Canadian Mountie mini-figure.
  9. Thank you. With all the crime occurring in City it is enough to drive the Police chief to drink. Haha You will notice the one detective has a bottle from the criminal who was involved in a crime. Thank you for the kind words. Now that the detective agency has been announced my police station is certainly more relevant now. I haven't decided on releasing the LDD file just yet.
  10. Thank you NgRO. Originally I was planning on having it connect to a second section for jail cells and what not. May do so in the future, haven't decided. Thank you Eurotrash! Thank you Scottwb2010! It's pretty massive. I'll have to build my modulars again to see how it looks all together.
  11. I got myself a copy of the Swamp Police patrol 60065, Excavator and Truck 60075, and the Dune Buggy trailer 60082 at Toys R US. Very happy with my purchases!
  12. Thank you Floundie! It was a small fortune, around $600 CDN. If I had a Lego store near me this would have been made much cheaper with a Pick a Brick wall. Thank you TheLegoDr! It was an interesting process building it. Building it in reality makes the stress points obvious, as I found out, and how the structure should change from the digital model. I am overall pleased that I kept the original vision intact. There is even a slot to place a weapon in the armoury wall and you can push down on the lever to get it inside.
  13. Excellent work Kristel, I really like the way you did the roof top and ground floor facades.
  14. Really like the exterior details Kristel. The roof is what I envisioned for a creation I had in mind. Has a nice Parisian feel to it.
  15. After a long journey of acquiring parts I have finally managed to complete my police modular. I still need a few pieces as I missed some in the last two orders but its essentially 99% complete. Apologizes for the photos I am a little out of practice. My creation is so much larger in reality as it turned out. It is as big as the Town Hall modular. I think the overall creation turned out great. I had to do a few tweaks with the parts and it took much longer to build as LDD does not base the instructions from the ground up. I have more photos on my flickr account. Have a look and enjoy!
  16. I'm not torn by this modular at all. Im loving every detail in this. It beats my expectations of what I was imagining the set would look like. I will definitely buy one. Remember one golden rule with all lego set designs is that they will reuse parts in new and interesting ways. To that I say this is fabulous and keeps up the spirit of what lego is all about. I can't wait to see what the interior will look like.
  17. I voted no, City is a pretty clean theme. I don't mind the violence but I want imagination to be the rule of thumb. I think Hrw-Amen is right. Kids do realise the difference between fantasy and reality. lets give them more fantasy.

Very nice Serpico! That was a quick build from design to reality. I'm assuming you had the parts already? I really like your design, simple and Mediterranean.
  19. Hi everyone, I've been steadily working on getting all the parts for my other Police Modular design. Once I do I will post photos. However in what spare time I've had the past few weeks I've been designing this. My intention was to house the Swat van from the Museum Break-in (60008) and the Humvee from The High Speed Chase (60007). Originally I wanted wooden doors on the garage but the doors would not have enough clearance to open and close properly. I spent a good week on and off trying to figure out how to do it. In the end I simply removed them and produced a much better design. The bay's are large enough to house the Elite Police vehicles. The building itself is based on partly Parisian architecture and a Jewish synagogue in central London. I've tried to be consistent with my part selections and the colouring is available. I have to finish off the third floor and roof. It will have a chateau-esc roof, like one sees in Paris. Originally I thought to do the second floor in either lime green or olive and have columns, but the tan and dark orange combination looks better with vaulted windows. I am really trying to combine both old and new architecture to give it an old world feel while being modified for modern day uses. On the first floor there is a security desk and entrance on the left side while the right has a staircase and machinist shop. The second floor was to house some holding cells for prisoners and some desks. I haven't quite decided everything that the building will house but I did want a communications centre. Perhaps on the third floor? In any case, I am fairly pleased with the direction my design has been going. Would love to hear other people's thoughts.
  20. That's because they drink so much coffee! Mugs are in many sets.
  21. Are you logged into Lego.com? Go to the BnP screen. The link will be at the bottom of the site under building instructions link. Once you select the set or part number of the piece you want you click add to bag. Once done then proceed to check out. It will take you to the processes inn payment screen. Use it all the time and I just tested it. It's currently working. I've been asking TLG customer service to show the prices for awhile now on BnP. They had a pilot project in the UK with this service. I'm pleased to say that they have updated the system last weekend with the prices on BnP. They were still ironing out some of the kinks but I'm loving it! It makes my job of assessing project costs so much easier and reduces the strain on TLG customer service.
  22. Hmm I bought PR last month and it came with the fence 1x4 with four studs. I assumed that they just updated the piece and had not done so for the instruction manual. Wasn't a big deal to me. What was a big deal was the transparent 1x2 tile with a clear line cracking the piece and a scratch on the PR sign. Thankfully TLG customer service issued a new one promptly.
  23. Now if we could just have more buildings for the toilets this is where MOCing comes into play. I don't mind building my own things. If anything that is what is the core concept of the City line, to base things on what we see existing in the world. May as well come up with your own design and share it, the rest of us can always make improvements or alterations based on taste but it would keep the spirit of imagination alive.

I was wondering how you built the docks in combination with base plates to align it properly? I am really loving what you have been doing! Keep the photos coming. Excited to see what's next.
  25. That is excellent! Congraulations! I still don't have my original blue awning arches. It looks good but somehow I don't feel it is complete yet. Just to let everyone know. Lego has updated their USA website with prices per piece now on BNP this weekend. In fact the prices of BNP have all largely increased. There are still some glitches with the update such as discontinued parts showing up as in stock, when they aren't! I called to confirm with Customer Service. It's crazy I know more about their system than some of the reps do...
