Element ID 4536521- Design ID 60593 - it may or may not have a new element ID

I used the 1x3x2 windows with pane instead of the train windows. Looks much better actually.

Each minifigure has a mini-soul once built. I never take them apart for storage.

You will think differently once you build it and stand in awe of your achievement. It can be frustrating at times to secure the parts but the end process for me made it worth it. I enjoyed it. I've been thinking about building 8404 transit set in the future.

Couldn't agree more. Need to have a massive spring cleaning and update. I also agree that this thread needs to get back onto rumours of the new Lego Castle developments.
-
Could always have a goblin raid on peasant villagers! If a theme takes about 18 months to design and produce then perhaps the new castle line is what we all wish for and will last longer than a year. Lego usually likes to keep storylines simplistic hence the whole evil wizard vs Knights characterizations. Perhaps a little more complexity in terms of a story may yield better results than 2013?

"I just want the minifigs to be detailed. The CMF King shows that you can have detail and bright colors." Anyone else notice that the CMF king looks like the king from Burger King? The new theme would have lots of possibilities for factions. We have our classics (Black Falcon, Forestmen, Wolf pack, etc), new moulded parts for Orcs, Elves, and whatnot. Now that Chima is ending this year that should free up some designers to work on cool creations. I'd love to see a battering ram, siege engines, or trebuchets. What I really want to see though is a decently brick built castle with interesting design features. Think a castle with a courtyard, stables etc. The previous castle sets, aside from the 80s, I always found lacklustre. Kids want to build as much as AFOLs do. What made the old set shine so much is that you not only had a story to act out but the sets were unique and fun to build. (Forest hideout) I think a healthy return to that in castle would be a welcome change.

I second that! That's what got me involved with the castle themes. Classic Forestmen, falcon and lions oh my!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
Wodanis replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well the new Halloween themed CMF looks interesting however I really don't like that goofy scientist. Maybe the design team wants to try a specific themed CMF to test the market? Personally I wish they would stick to other historical or reality based characters like a Mountie or Romans. I admit it's hard not to be completist with the CMF line. This would be an awesome idea! Even the Castle themed one would be cool. -
I think TLG can manage both lines simultaneously. They used to have both lines when pirates initially came out.
-
World of Warcraft would not be a good brand fit for TLG. Better to have Lego dream up sets we want. I'm hoping though that any new sets will have more substance to them. I didn't buy any Lego Castle Sets from the last wave because they didn't have enough of a build experience to them.

What the color change in the Green baseplates?
Wodanis replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure what the logic is behind these decisions to change the colours and discontinue blue. I understand blue may not have been a high volume seller but it had it uses. I only have one blue baseplate. What so far no one has mentioned is why Lego is only selling only 3 plates? Why not increase the range of colours instead? That way blue doesn't have to be produced as much but still made available as selling other colours in volume would offset the cost. Red wouldn't be used too much but I could definitely see them selling tan, blue, grey, dark grey, dark green and bright green, not to mention reddish brown -
What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Wodanis replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That isn't true Blondie-Wan. There are plenty of submissions that aren't rejected outright even though there is no way they would produce the set. The latest is a LoTR Rivendell MOC. It is an impressive build but not practical as a set. It would also fall under licensing and I believe the LoTR license is expiring this year as its reached End of Line. However it doesn't cross any guidelines and can be submitted. What I have issue with isn't such a submission but rather the submission that is 'clutter', projects that already exist as a Lego set (honestly if you have time to Pov-Ray and design a star wars set then you should do some research about whether it exists already). People can submit a project that would use a license such as Star Wars but it is problematic as I have yet to see any Star Wars projects be produced into a set (that wasn't already in the pipeline). This doesn't mean in my view one can't submit a idea based on Star Wars. However my main point is that some projects should be screened more thoroughly such as the one above. The problem with that submission is that it uses mainly mini-figures and it is reusing an existing design. The idea of a Green Lantern race car isn't at issue. It is how its presented. The non licensed submissions that would be rejected outright are ones that do not conform to the guidelines or TLG policy, such as war or religion themes, as they should. You are correct that if another company already has a license to produce Transformers then Lego would not produce one. The restrictions don't necessarily hamper creativity either. Even if there were more of them. This is how the creative process works. Open ended conceptualisation is great but guidelines or restrictions forces a more concentrated approach to a execute an idea successfully. -
Brilliant work! It is very aspirational. Makes me want to try my hand at MOCing events from history.

Actually Beren that is what the original designs I have do. This is looking grand Elleana! So glad you decided to impliment it. How is the clearance with the beams? Did you have to adjust much?

Didn't know the staff had cheat sheets. Is this something new? Or is it the bump code list? Used to be when I stopped at the store the staff would help me feel for the correct one, still takes roughly an hour per series for me to find them all.

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Wodanis replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No, it doesn't. Lego Ideas sole purpose is to find a product that is marketable to an audience. If a someone wants to show off a creation there are plenty of platforms to do it on. An amateurish project could have merit if the idea is sound. It doesn't have to be designed by an AFOL either. However since we are talking about turning something into a potential product there is a level of seriousness to the issue. -

Wodanis replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The idea has merit but I think it would disincentivize too many people. Rather the approval process before our project would be posted could enforce better screening of projects. I like the idea of limiting or eliminating licensed themes. Frankly TLG knows what they want to look for, Star Wars for example. I would be happy with a firm no/go policy. (We can get rid of things like this: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/91318) Not a bad idea but I don't think it absolutely necessary. A project if it were to make to the review stage would be reassessed on part count/design features etc. for instance my project is roughly 2600 parts. That would obviously change should it make it to review and accepted. I would like the site to become more serious/adult about its projects that exist. There are a number of projects with merit getting drowned out. -
Hi all, I was hoping to get a discussion going on this topic as I having been seeing a bad trend lately, people who create something in LDD and wish to place it on the Lego Ideas website without any consideration for whether the project should be there, performed any research, a business case or if it will succeed. Moreover I've seen some ideas that Lego has already produced such as a wind turbine (2008) and construction dump truck (2009). I'm of the firm opinion that the Lego Ideas programme is for crowd sourcing projects that are interesting and original, has had a business case thought out and offers a unique building experience (it's stated in the literature on Lego Ideas). The site is already indunated with projects from television shows or movies that frankly I think we could do without. Jurassic park was one example of this (considering Lego had already been working on this). I understand in some cases it is about recognition but if that is the case then it is something that should be posted on the forums and commented on; NOT posted on Lego Ideas. I know there is a year time frame to weed creations out but at the same time I see many projects cluttering up the discover page that it makes it difficult to find decent starting projects. What do other people think? Case in point https://ideas.lego.com/projects/92627 - TLG just produced this set last year, why is this on there?
-
Hi TimeLapseSwag, not sure why you are posting this on Lego Ideas? TLG already made one back in 2008: http://brickset.com/sets/4999-1/Vestas-Wind-Turbine I understand that you'd like to share your creation but Lego Ideas is really for projects with a business case. The idea behind the programme is to crowd source new projects rather than existing ones. :/

Im a bit late to the conversation but I'm with Andy D and a few others in regards to treating your MOC as a work of art. I used to sell some of my artistic works and the price varies on how much time and passion one puts into your creation. It is hard to find to charge an adequate amount for something that isn't neccesarily quantifiable. My artwork has always been a part of me and for that reason I end up missing my works. However if one receives a commission, I find that my heart isn't into the project as much as it would be if I were making for myself to realise my vision. It creates unnecessary pressure as well since your 'on the clock' to complete the project and whether your client will like the result or not. If you want a simple estimate then by all means use how much you paid for parts as a base line to the cost. For anything else it's really your discretion.

This is astonishing! Looks fantastic in the brick. How much did this project cost?

This is quite good Richard, well done. I really liked your war map idea and the record player. Cool use of the anchor too on the roof top.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Wodanis replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm aware that the reason behind this is also to reduce cost which plays into your point Faefrost. Cheaper to utilise the 2 1x4's instead of the 1x8. You will notice this with many sets where they will have used the same part colour or brick/plate when building we would assume the 1x8 is more efficient to use. Another point is that the designers will use a part say red or blue etc to make the part identifiable/easier to find when building. -
City Layout - Inspired by Los Angeles, California
Wodanis replied to parrafilmsguy's topic in LEGO Town
I like your city scene, it is very much indicative of L.A. Thankfully the natural lighting also made your photos pop! how did you get the tiles to curve with the skyscraper blue glass section?
