[MOC][LDD][PDF] The Viper probe droid, aka: Imperial Probe Droid
Anio replied to mcgrah's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Nice work ! I would be interested in looking at your LDD WIP file (you show 2 pics in your gallery). Would you accept to share it ? If yes, PM me. :)- 57 replies

Never been a huge fan of extended universe and that kind of stuff. But still, you achieved a nice design, interesting build, etc. Good job !
-
Hi, IMO, you should rather proceed that way : - what ship is relevant to do with a UCS treatment - and then what ship can be made properly with lego elements You will see that there is not a lot of SW ships which comply with those 2 statements.

Really ? Oo But when you produce a kit, you have to deal with 100K parts, don't you ? I suppose you take only new parts. Can you tell what average price per part do you have ? It would be something interesting to know given the huge quantities you buy.

Quite a good surprise indeed. The round shapes are still a bit disappointing, and the huge black support is ridiculous.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Anio replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No problem. My review are not published yet. 42068 will come this week end, 42069 in the next week, and 42070 after. I have quite a good opinion on 42070, though. I do not think that the model is meh. More details when I publish my review. -
My point is that it took 40 years to see such a (simple) axle in an official product. I guess that adding suspension generally doesn't takes much when steering and transmission are here already. So, they always included suspension when an axle had steering + transmission.
-
Fun fact : first Technic set ever with an axle with transmission + steering but no suspension.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Anio replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built the model yesterday. Quite suprising to have that many parts moving, but it works quite well. No backlash. -
The UCS BB-8 is so ugly. That's hilarious ! It is a cube ! lol

If you start with 0 part and want to stick to my design, it is definitely way more than 1000 $/€.

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Anio replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Information regarding lego designers is very reliable on techlug.fr Sometimes, it is something we can guess. And it is actually quite funny to guess who did what model (and I confirm, 42068 looks very much like Alfred style). But if the name of a designer is written in a techlug review, you can be sure there is no mistake : I got the information from people inside TLG (Technic team manager and designers). -
The ball is maybe built with dish 6x6 and 8x8 on the sides, and maybe in the "corners". Just a suggestion. Never tried something like that. And so ? How is it design ? Details ? Printed parts (dishes) ? UCS stand ? Describe it !
-
Are you sure about that ? 100€ MSRP won't make such a big model for a set that is supposed to be UCS. I would say 900-1000 parts.
-
Thanks ! Did they reach me ? Not at all. Being credited and inspiring other Lego fans is flattering. Being copied and ripped off is not flattering. Those who say they would be flattered probably do lego stuff that no one would be interested in stealing. Financial hardship ? If we consider that some kind of retribution is due, then yes.

A great set indeed. Seems perfect on every aspect (design, accuracy, price, technique, etc).

Hello, I will require your help once again as scams are back (what a pain !). Can you please report that auction : http://www.ebay.fr/itm/MoC-Lego-Star-Wars-Venator-Class-Star-Destroyer-USB-w-Instructions-Only-/152550791397?hash=item2384bc58e5:g:eYIAAOSw42dZB4E7 Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the pic and comments ! Note that you put the dark red wedge on top in the wrong way.

Thanks for your praise. :)

Purism
Anio replied to Erik Leppen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
They do that, a lot, when designers are testing color schemes on preliminary models. Sometime the color they need for some parts are not in production.- 179 replies

Purism
Anio replied to Erik Leppen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Some very interesting point of view on that topic. :) It appears that there are as many concept of purism as lego fan. :) Personnally, I do use custom chromed parts for SW models. From time to time, I also paint some parts. Because they are not produced by Lego in the color I need (dark red, generally). And when they are produced, I switch my painted part with an official Lego part. It doesn't bother me much. The thing is just to use the very same color than the lego bricks. Of course, I also do some UCS stickers for my SW models. One thing is missing in that thread, though. We read a lot of comment about what part using (lego, non lego), what substitution is acceptable, how modifying a part can be ok, etc. But no one mentionned how using a specific part in a building process. I consider that using a part in a way it is not made for is wrong (illegal build). I mean, tweaking a part would be wrong but using a part in a way that it is stressed so that it might break would be right ? So I think that the design process of a model is as important as what part can be used regarding the matter of purism. So you see. Yet another point of view. :D- 179 replies

Potential Questions for LEGO Designers
Anio replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you Jim ! Agreed. That being said, I kinda like the color vomit (which is not that visible in the end) as it explains the working of a function. Just like there are color codes in an electric device. I mean, it probably doens't help to understand how the model work, but the colors mean something. And that is something I find very interesting. Red gearbox as it is the heart of a model, tan means frictionless, blue mean friction, etc. Colors give also clear indications on the builds : the grey pins of the roof of 8258 for example, where many people think that black pins would be ok.
