  1. Well the resolution is the main factor for render duration, doubling the resolution will slow the render four time (as there are four time as many pixels). If you also have 30% of free cpu power, your times are more than explained :) BTW It's terrible for photoshop to eat 70% cpu doing nothing!! Now the bluerender render can easily be spotted by the absence of seams and the distinctive dotted shadow on the ground :) It renders both correctly to me. Are you sure you're using the right db.lif? It's NOT the one inside c:\programs\lego etc., as that one is the first that comes installed with LDD (ie, no updates). The updated one is under c:\users\name\AppData\Roaming\Lego etc.. And yes, LDD is wasting double the space it needs :)
  2. i really like the layout of the small avatars with interspersed images. Great results with a manageable amount of work. I'm pretty sure i'll adopt it too :) Great builds too :)
  3. Hi there, so i'm almost ready for the new version! It will feature a lot of improvements, i'm particulary happy with new submodel management commands and the reworking of page layout (which still needs a lot of work, but it's getting better). Removed some bug on outlining for multisurface parts Copy/paste submodel command to move submodels around Unwrap submodel command to move all steps in a submodel to the parent Pink highlight now optional Avoid generating page on lxf import (just a waste of time) Pdf/cbr/zip export Drag-select for page layout Page layout is now flat, not hierarchical Much improved memory usage (just a single page is now kept in memory) Textured parts support I don't remember if there's more :P
  4. They very recently moved the file.. strange for an inactive project! the pdf is now here. About RGB values, well i don't know of any table, but it's basically just like you're used but divided by 255 :P So 120 200 255 becomes 0.47 0784 1. Using custom sc should not slow the program per se, depends on what you put inside there. Just changing the color should make no difference. Maybe there was something else? You duplicated the panel instead of changing it? Or maybe there were other programs using resources (games, browsers, video, etc)? Speaking of sc files, there's already a way to have custom scene! just put it in the same folder of your lxf with the same name (like spaceship.lxf and spaceship.sc), and it will automatically be picked instead of the standard one. I've a hard time telling with render is which :) But the picture is private so we can't see it at full resolution.
  5. Uhm that's interesting. Could you send an lxf with only 4865 in it? I'm at work and don't have LDD installed. For the second part, it's probably an alias, there are some parts defined like that, maybe there's a similar part that works (bluerender doesn't support aliases). Thanks :) It's great to hear people liking the program :) The colors are in RGB format, where each value goes from 0 to 1 (0 0 0 is black, 1 1 1 is white). You can change the background in that portion, while the plane can be changed in the "PlaneMaterial" shader, the "diff" variable which is actually { "sRGB nonlinear" 0.3 0.6 0.976 } There's nothing that shouldn't work on mac, but i tried with some people to figure out command lines etc, via trial and error but it never worked..i already asked around, we'll see :)
  6. There never was one, it was just some antivirus giving false positive. The authors of the LWJGL library confirmed it.

wonderful build! it's great how clean the front part is despite all the angles.
  8. super cool! this could be like benny's spaceship but for m-tron instead of cs :)
  9. no i forgot to fill it :) i don't know what could be the problem.. if it worked with 0003 it should work with 0004. i can only suggest the standard things: have you unzipped the zip correctly? do you have java8.40 or better? do you have some strange setup to report (network disk or other stuff)?
  10. @aeralure it doesn't work on mac right now. Since it looks like there's a lot of demand i may ask some friend if they can let me use their mac.. @Alskadosis @bublible i have no news at the moment. I think i'll work on finding better materials settings (such as chrome and transparent parts) and possibly that animation idea, when i'll find some more free time. I'm not implementing the shrinking becouse the shrinking doesn't work if not for builds made only of regular old bricks, and possibly not even for those. First off the center is not the same for all bricks, so the shrinking will shrink by different amount for the two axis, generating irregular and terribly looking gaps: Secondly, it doesn't work for concave bricks, where it actually pull internal vertices outward instead of inward To make it works you should implement all sort of tricks that i'm not willing to face, and are possibly beyond my skills.
  11. Thanks :) It will remain simple, in that it will always have all settings set to a default value that works for most cases, and people have just to hit Render. Everything else is for people who wants to dig in :) I may put some basic settings on their own tab. Will look into it. Lif path is already definible but only in the program settings file in C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\bluerender.ini Thanks! and what a great model, i like it, very original! Actually the idea of making an animation is pretty cool, and not very heavy on development side. Might look into it! It would be cool to output a gif of the rotating model :)
  12. Uhm what does the command window says? is there any kind of message?
  13. wow those canopy.. super clever!
  14. super cool contest! :) i'll see if i can find the time and an idea to partecipate :)
  15. new version ready, you can download here In addition to the stuff i wrote yesterday, i also managed to correct the black reflection. It now reflect the background color instead.
  16. Ok, i'll see in the code as soon as iceleftd sends me the case model and scene file The problem is that, sunflow shaders are not "shaders" in the general term (like in Opengl), but more like materials. If i understood correctly, the shaders you're talking about are geometry/vertex shaders, and they're not supported by sunflow (which doesn't use OpenGL at all). And btw, even if it was possible, i don't think i'd be able to code a shader so complex :)
  17. Indeed this is strange, i'd be pretty surprised if there's no solution that doesn't involve putting an object overhead. Just out of my mind it should pick the color of the background. Bublible have you tried this and/or some other ideas? I'm against adding the extra object as it mess with the shadows. About the materials: do you have the definition for all chrome materials? i could import them, no problem if they reflect black for now. Just make sure you have all of them :) About promoting Bluerender, that would be great :) And i'm still working on Blueprint, already have a lot of things waiting only for a release :) Anyway, i'm releasing a new version of Bluerender tomorrow with the following fixes: Janino shaders now work Automatic aspect ratio Overwrite without asking checkbox No longer "forget" some flexible elements
  18. incredible model. i'd love to see one built with real bricks, just to see how it would look
  19. lovely! great choice of pieces for such a small scale, it's instantly recognizable!

awesome! is that one of the new domes from the flying ninjago/chima thingie? great use!
  21. awesome build :) great story, great alien with a great name :) also perfect photograpy!
  22. Hello people, i'm back :) Actually, ArrayIndexOutOfBound errors are usually related to old LXF (saved from previous version of LDD), which has something a little different from current ones. I haven't identified exacly what, but opening the model in LDD and resaving it usually solve the problem. Yes i noticed, but i preferred to use a "stable", released version than one that was not yet released and possibly in an "intermediate" version. But i'll look into the changelog, if there's something interesting i might change it. My modifications are still minimal and easy to move to the new version. This is definitely my objective too. I would like to find a set of default value that works good in 99% of the case, so that people can just hit "render", while still letting others hack the scene file to get the most out of it. As bublible said, the db.lif is a database file containing all geometries, decorations, materials, etc, that Bluerender needs to read. In windows, i know where it is and the program doesn't need to ask (it only asks if it doesn't find it). In Mac, i don't know which is the default position (if any), so it just asks. Try and locate the file with some search function on your OS. Other users have reported it in "???/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/LEGO Company/LEGO Digital Designer/db.lif". As far as i know nobody managed to run it in mac, there are more problem down the way. But if you try, let me know what you can get! Are you sure LDD2POVRAY uses the trick of shrinking the bricks? I'm pretty sure this trick will not work in any but the simplest cases. The correct way is to add small bevels on all hard seams, but it's a nice load of work and it makes the number of vertices/faces explode. Could you elaborate on the two options of ldd2povray? I'm not sure i get it. Yes the flex pieces disappearance will be fixed in next version :) I've set the field of view empirically as it's a little hard to get the correct one used in LDD. You could change the fov value in scene.sc or move the camera in LDD.
  23. It's very possible, maybe there's a bug in the flexibles code. i'll look into it
  24. Hi there, if you have the most recent version, the background can be changed by editing the scene.sc file, it's near the beginning. Half of it in which way? :) if it's the top part, you probably have the model placed below zero height and the ground plane cuts it. You can download the latest version (3) that solve the problem. The camera location is taken from LDD, in alternative you can define your own inside the scene.sc file. Please follow up on the official thread here :)
  25. That's a good idea :) i can assure janino shaders will work in bluerender, so if you want to start looking into them you could use official sunflow distribution. BTW i'll be away next week so i'll probably won't post until next weekend :) Probably only the main sc file is "processed" by blueprint, the others are only included but no substitution/decoration is performed. Also i think it's mandatory to have an absolute path in include file, relatives won't work
