I like that we're growing grapes so well on tropical Islands. Oleander innovation at its finest! Zeus has blessed this land and sent his son Dionysus to imbue our crops with preternatural vigour! Great work Phred! I like how you blended the grape plantation with the gravel road, and also the grape trellises are quite nice. I may have to make a vinyard myself at some point. It does seem to be the Oleander thing to do. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Awesome build Phred! Love the bee design, and the movement trials made out of the Transparent tube is just great! Hilarious scene! full of funny details! Great work! Great addition to Astrapi! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Yeah. Drow that guy! But on the subject, I'm not a skilled customizer myself, but I would certainly agree that brickbuilt hulls are the way to go! I personally doubt I'll use many prefab hulls in my builds, with exception to the rowboat mould. Brickbuilt hulls, while challenging, offer the greatest customization options! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

On Farmolis's Famous Octan Olympic Arena, where all the best and brightest athletes have come to train! Including none other than Dr. Danielle Long, who was surprised to wake up to a holo-mail from CEO Pombe, requesting her presence at the games... on penalty of forfeiture of shares... Octan Olympics! by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Long: "this looks like and engine attached to a cockpit with two wings. Is this even a boat?" Engineer: "Yup! Class 1, F. Speed class 2, $ 1, C 0, W 0." Dr. Long: "What?" Engineer: "Do you disagree with my classification? I mean, it's clearly a catamaran." Dr. Long: "I don't know what that means." Engineer: "I thought you liked boats! Isn't that why you insisted on using the Cog? I mean, apart from the fact that "Cog" is the name of a medieval ship, I can't see why you would have loyal to the brand name." Dr. Long: "Cog is a type of boat?" Engineer: "yes. From the medieval Era of European history." Dr. Long: "and was that before or after the Egyptians?" Engineer: "After." Dr. Long: "huh. I'm not a history expert." Engineer: "yeah, Let's stick to sci-fi." Dr. Long: "Sci-fi?" Engineer: "I meant science." Dr. Long: "So, this thing doesn't have controls. How do I pilot it?" Engineer: "the AI pilots for you, but you can override and control it with your helmet." Dr. Long. "Thank the stars. I despise pointless self endangerment like this, so it'd be best if the AI took care of that. Also I've never pilotted a boat." Octan Olympics! by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr

"Yes... hehe. No Octan presence at all. This must be... not an Octan robot. No matter what it tells you... infact... good thing you blew it up. Octan has absolutely no super-secret projects on C04. I would know. I'm definitely not in charge of them." Awesome build! Love how you always seem to insert action functions into your builds! awesome! I'm sure you know how great your building skills are, but I always love to marvel at your building style! The terrain and the vegetation are superb! And the vehicles are amazing too! great job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

[OL-FB1] The Tides have Changed
Dannylonglegs replied to Dannylonglegs's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! I've got so many story plans that this might turn into a tele-novella if I'm not careful. Glad you like my writing. Hopefully I'll get to build more reliefs like this one on actual structures. Licenced. Thanks for the tip. I've been re-reading up now on the licencing process. Thanks! I love Baroque architecture and decoration, which was a large part of my desire to join Oleon in the first place. The grandeur of it all is what I especially love. Hopefully I can help turn Breshaun into a grandesque city with structures featuring reliefs like those I placed on the vignette's border. Glad you like the arch as well. It's a bit more muted, I'll admit, but it serves its purpose. Thanks! Glad to be back. ~Insectoid Aristocrat- 10 replies

BoBS History and Background Thread
Dannylonglegs replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
If my opinion on the matter is of any import, I've run under the impression that New Oleon was similar to Africa in many ways. I assumed New Oleon has both Saharan Africa appearing places, and Sub-Saharan Africa appearing places, and may well have parts to it inspired by the Middle East. I'd like to believe that Pan is similarly African inspired, but I have not checked to see if anyone has established anything about it. Phred mentioned that the nations would appear much like the Barbary coast/Saracen states, to which I have no disagreements. Also worth noting is that New Oleon is also distinctly Oleander influenced, and that Oleon culture has dominated the region for some time now. The NPC pirate Reynard LeRoublard hails from New Oleon, as will several more characters I introduce later on. ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
We (and I say we because it was mostly my brother. ) also got some of the Megablocks PotC stuff. We got Davy Jone's heart set as a birthday gift. It never got built. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

I do this too. I have a small number of clone parts and megablocks. If I can get away with it, I stick them on the inside of mocs rather than wasting actual Lego on stuff that's just structural but will never get seen. Some of the clone parts have more grip strength than Lego. My brother was hugely into the Megablocks Dragons theme, and we actually have a substantial collection from this theme's earliest days. I confess I didn't find the first stuff so bad... but I was much younger then. I also acknowledge that most of my love for the Lego Insectoids theme stems from nostalgia, rather than inherent merit to the theme. But I'm allowed to have my own little biases, damnit! I didn't buy any of the Galaxy Squad sets on principle, and I regret this decision. I'm happy new Bionicles got canceled. I don't think that the designers ever really knew what made the first few waves so good, and they didn't recapture the magic in this new wave... although I must give them some credit in that it appeared they tried. I am absolutely terrible at organizing my Lego. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Hello all, I have a little clarification question: For category B, we must create a MoC depicting "the Plundering" of the Treasure fleet, but must the vessel plundering the fleet belong to our faction? Specifically, could I depict a non-Oleon affiliated pirate vessel performing the plundering? Not sure if this was discussed before. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

The Tides have Changed by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr The uniform fit loosely in certain places. The shoulders sagged softly, unsupported. But Avery hadn't expected tailored attire like the elaborate clothes and fine linen the family was accustomed to. That stage of Avery's life was over--for now. Avery had less muscle tone than the usual boy of his age, and looked far younger too. His big eyes and soft cheeks were yet unhardened by life. No salt clung to his wavy caramel hair. Though it had recently been hand-cut, his bangs fell unceremoniously over his eyes. He brushed them aside as he stepped through the "Portail de la Victoire" La Portail de la victoire was a decorative arch marking the entrance to the docks from the fortifications. The gateway served as a reminder of Oleon's supremacy on the waves, and their countless victoies at sea, as they sought to tame these new and wild lands in the name of their gods. That's what the statue meant to most residents of Breshaun, but to Avery, the gate held a different meaning. As he stepped through it now, in his new uniform, his pack in hand, thee gate was the threshold between his old life, and the new. Not more than a year ago, the "De la Jambe-Longue" name would immediately be recognized in any high society event as the name of one of the most famous artists in the king's court. Daniel de la Jambe-Longue had made quite the positive impression on the late King Stephan II, who commissioned from him many a portrait and religious painting. And Daniel was skilled... but proud. His cleverness served to be his undoing, when he slipped symbolism into what he assumed would be his magnum opus, which conflated a clerical rival of his with the tyrannical Titans who came before the gods. They say that pride comes before the fall. Now Avery stood under the gate, between the bustling docks of Breshaun, and the neat and orderly sea-side fortifications. Between the streets that held Avery's old part-time residence, the de la Jambe-Longue family's Breshaun townhouse, and the cobbled road that held his new residence, a wooden bunk and some dirty tanned cloth in a brick and stone fort.... That is... until the HMS Titan-Slayer was returned to working condition. Avery was not to be a land-based soldier. He'd enlisted in the navy, and would be a member of the crew aboard the famous pirate-hunting vessel known as "The Titan-Slayer." But the ship was still under repairs after a run-in with its primary quarry, the infamous pirate lord "Reynard LeRoublard." The New Oleander pirate had made a name for himself terrorizing the seas of the Old World, and headed east to be a founding member of the Sea-Rats, but then abandoned them on Bastion and returned to the west. Unbeknownst to many, but suspected by Avery, upon the Pirate Lord's ship, "the Titan's Tithe" was none-other than the escaped Daniel de la Jambe-Longue. Avery was determined to rescue him. Only by confronting the Order could the de La Jambe Longue family restore their once grand name... and truthfully, he feared for his safety and well-being. Daniel was family, and family was everything. The Tides have Changed by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr So Avery stood there, below the stone of the arch, contemplating his future. He turned. He walked up the winding path to the fort. Fates change as often as a woman changes clothes, Avery mused. ~~~~~~ So, this is my first Freebuild and Introductory build. Gotta get that 25 DP! I won't licence it, as that feels like a waste to me, but I might later on if I'm feeling flush. It'd be a Small Art and Culture property if I did. I know this comes into play for determining analogous unlicensed properties in Breshaun's total Trade value, so I'll leave this here as well as on the Breshaun Settlement page. Forgot about my "First Free Licence" so It's now licensed. I've finally joined! Comments and Critiques are more than welcome. I don't often build historical structures. I've always been more of a sci-fi fan, so any recommendations are more than appreciated. Bonus pic of the Titan-Slayer's Captain, Etienne du Coeurgris standing below the arch. Unlike Avery, he is far more decisive about his direction, for his is the way of the gods, and the way of the law, and the way of light. A Schooner from Know Your Pieces: a Flickr Find
Dannylonglegs replied to kurigan's topic in Pirate MOCs
Is... Is this even Lego? I love it. Everything about this ship is drop-dead gorgeous! Every detail is on-point. This looks like a model ship, not a Lego model. At first I couldn't even tell the scale, but now that I notice the minifigures, I must also say that it's huge in addition to gorgeous! just 100/100 7/6 this is magnificent. Easily one of the best Lego Ships I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. Everyone involved in this deserves a pat on the back. ~Insectoid Aristocrat -

You are allowed to build on any planet that either is owned by your corporation, or is directly adjacent to one such planet. If you look on the map, any planet connected to a MANTIS planet by a line is one you can build on. Unless there's an enemy fleet there. You get even more options with some of the equipment you can buy.... Also, a lot of MANTIS territory used to be Octan... so you don't even need to make up scenarios in which there are Octan buildings on MANTIS planets. If you need suggestions for where to build, I'm sure they'd help you in the super secret MANTIS thread better than I could here. ~Insectoid Aristocrat
