Did I say bronze? Whoops. Meant steel. mind if I retcon that real quick? Also, the river's colour is from copper... if there's that much copper in the river, it begs the question of what the statue is resting on. The statue is but a small part of the copper Dr. Long wants to extract from their present location. While petty greed does play a part in her decision to have the statue deconstructed and replaced, what is not explicitly stated is that it must be moved to fully extract the resources from their present location... if that helps you justify her actions. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Good idea. And I'd recommend going with S.P.I.D.E.R. instead of spider, just so you don't run up against all the people outside AG who build Lego Spiders. that's why Octan occasionally uses the tag "Octancorp" here. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

You don't have to tag all the back story stuff. I'm sure that'll be linked in by players as it becomes relevant. Ie: for my Invasive Species storyarc, "Catching-Up With Odus Dillberg" is not tagged as part of the main story, even though it sets the stage for the events that unfold. So, You don't have to tag all of Spacersteve's old builds. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

AG - Introduction and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
True. Those darned Volcano sets are like a star-send to MANTIS. not only are the figures (olive green industrial jump suits with volcanos on the back? I Toresta?) great for MANTIS employees, but the whole theme's colour-scheme is black and lime. That said, I've used one of the torsos already in my latest build with red arms as an Octan volcanic planet worker. I imagine we've got plenty on one of our most well populated planets, Yetornius, as well. But yeah, also Rodiziorobs himself had very few MANTIS colours to start with and started out mostly building scenes of his character infiltrating Octan, which allowed him to have a fun colab with me! ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
AG - Introduction and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
This would be a question for the Game managers. I'd suggest opening a PM with Bob, Sal, and EpsilonETA to hash it out. There was one member previously who left Kawashita for Mantis, but he hasn't been around for a while. While I would love to see you join Octan, you know there are always ways to accommodate lack of parts colours. You could be a secret operative for Mantis working in Octan/Kawashita space, building spying missions where you and everyone around you looks like a build from another corporation. Likewise you could be a MANTIS operative tasked with weeding out Dust Demons (or their new SPIDER dudes (Hell, you could BE a SPIDER dude and use dark blues mostly. That might be cool. Like a HYDRA agent working within SHIELD.) and mostly build dust demon bases (or SPIDER bases). Or perhaps your character works with a crew of MANTIS folk who mostly use black, grey or brown(I've seen that colour used effectively by Mantis before) and only have the MANTIS colours in small motifs on their ships, like Octan does most of the time with our red and green (there are a few of us who put the colours everywhere though. I personally prefer stark white with red and green stripes and accents on my builds.) Or maybe you're a Mantis agent tasked with making peaceful contact with the aliens, and mostly you'd build alien stuff. And also, you're really good at doing landscapes, especially vig ones, so maybe you could just do a lot of that. I'm just saying there are plenty of options out there if you want to keep your side but have trouble building in-line with the corp colours. Hope that helps. ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
This Dominance on Onix is not really important, as Alien builds remove it indiscriminately, meaning Kawashita and Octan both will lose dominance. The ratio remains the same. This won't be a problem for either of us unless Mantis tries to claim Onix... which is possible, but impractical. I wanted to make this an Octan build, but it was really tied to the planet Onix... and it was finals week so I couldn't build much more to make the placement different. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Pictures Updated! What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Thanks! Sorry if it was unclear. I've added the dialogue that elucidates that. It's a fallen statue to the gods and goddesses of the Oni-Ren Pantheon, constructed from Copper, which did exactly what copper does, and oxidized. Glad you like it! I'd say it's probably one of my more aesthetically pleasing builds... Azure on black is a sexy combo. Shame it's using literally all of my azure bricks and plates. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Hey, all. Out of curiosity, would it be possible for you to insert some kind of tag to the Spider Web story for ease of rereading? Considering that the "Builds" segment of the Players and Planets post only gets updated now and then, it'd be a lot easier to merely click a tag to find all story builds than sifting back through build backlogs. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"What is that odor?...." Dr. Long began. She lightly passed the surrounding air towards her face with a gentle waving motion of the hand. She allowed the air to flow through her nostrils while making sure not to inhale abruptly, adhering strictly to textbook-perfect wafting procedure. "Is that... A challenge?... Hmph. I suppose then we will see who has chosen the superior design should we meet in the arena. I hypothesize that I will win." Awesome Mech! I love it! That Anubis design, and the beefy torso are inspired! The thing is super dense, which is a good thing for a competition of this nature, I'm sure. Love the level of detail. The feet are really nice. And the bunny tail on the back cracks me up! Great work! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"What is a God to a nonbeliever?" The Invasive Species: Part 6. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Interlude Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 (Finale) Tags: Alien Planet: Onix What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on FlickrWhat is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Queen: "But the scripture states that the gods returned from the heavens when the Zoid slavers did descend upon our people. The Gods... They showed us that by eating the Zoid we could be free of their shackles. Will not the gods return to us now, in our time of great need?" Bishop: "The Gods work in mysterious ways, my Queen... And our enemy is not from without... but from within. I fear that the Gods may... require us to resolve this ourselves." Queen: "Ba'al Ba'al is no true Oni-Ren*. She might as well be a mere extension of the arm of Octan. Do you think her army of Mecha-nicks was herself created? Do you think the Nan-Nan tribe built for themselves their armor of black?... Ba'al Ba'al and her army are merely puppets to the true enemy... Will our gods not return and teach us how to beat them back?" Bishop: "My Queen... I must confess that I do not believe that the gods will return again.... It has been so.. so very long since they did before." Queen: "But are we not faithful? Have we not upheld their ways? Why would the Gods have abandoned us to our doom?" Bishop: "The Gods abandoned us long, long ago." *The word for Oni-Ren in Oni-Ren is not Oni-Ren, but rather a word more like the common word "Person" What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Later, In Cerebus Station. An Audience with the Queen by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Translator: "Wessa be wanting to discuss... peace." Dr. Long: "I'm listening." Translator: "Oursa Queen be wanting youssa to be... calling off youssa dog, Ba'al Ba'al Jinks." Dr. Long: "Octan claims no affiliation with Ba'al Ba'al Jinks. She may have been our guest at one point, however, Octan has yet to recognize her freedom fighters as a legitimate organization." Translator: "Oursa Queen be beggin the question of howsa Ba'al Ba'al be having offworlder technology?" Dr. Long: "That would be a question to ask a representative of Ba'al Ba'al Jink's freedom fighters." Translator: "Theysa no talk. Only kill." Dr. Long: "Perhaps there would be a way to... circumvent any further losses. I'm sure Ba'al Ba'al could be reasoned with... But for Octan to become a partisan in your civil war... That would certainly come with a price." Translator: "Does youssa mean the old agreement?" Dr. Long: "More than that. We discussed that arrangement during times of peace. Now you come to us in a time of war and ask for our direct interference with your internal matters? We would have to assemble a taskforce to assess civil liberties in your nation, and draw up actionable plans to bring your empire closer in line to Octan's corporate policies before even considering intervention on your behalf. Octan follows strict moral and legal guidelines in circumstances such as this to ensure mutual benefit of all parties involved." Translator: "Wessa no think wessa can be working with youssa." Dr. Long: "Very well. My people will be in contact with your people, should you change your mind." Later that week, after a battle, by the Statue of the Fallen Goddess. What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Edris: "Is that azure liquid... Water?" Dr. Long: "Yes. Poisoned by Copper." Dr. Edris: "Do the natives drink it?" Dr. Long: "The natives have a greater capacity for copper intake than we do. Nonetheless, the copper in the water will need to be filtered out and converted to a usable form." What is a Queen to a God? by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr Dr. Long: "It's wasteful. Don't you think? All this usable copper oxidizing away in a great heap." Dr. Edris: "This is an item of great cultural significance, from what I can tell. It's one of the statues to their gods. I'd say the religious significance of this item alone makes it almost just as valuable as the copper put into making it." Dr. Long: "Well, we'll need to dismantle it, so take your pictures now." Dr. Edris: "This is a priceless artifact we're talking about, Danielle. This needs to be preserved." Dr. Long: "They've done a fine job preserving it themselves. It looks like it more than half melted into the lava ages ago. Appraise the item in reference to its cultural value. We'll write Ba'al Ba'al a check. We can construct a new one out of Steel." Dr. Edris: "For the record, I don't approve." Dr. Long: "Noted." The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Avery De La Jambe-Longue by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr The "de la Jambe-Longue" nom used to mean something. Only a year or so ago, the "de la Jambe-Longue" family had been a wealthy land-owning aristocratic family with lands both in Oleon's mainland (Specifically the peninsula that earned them their name, as well as a house just outside the capitol), as well as a few plots and an apartment in Breshaun. They lived a carefree and lavish lifestyle, free of need or consequence... But all that changed when the family's cherished son, made an enemy with the wrong clergymen. Now the Order of the Faith has repossessed the Family's lands, and the "de la Jambe-Longue" name is only muttered under hushed breath; proof that the Faith still holds great power, and that a sinful lifestyle will lead only to ruin. Daniel de la Jambe Longue, The family's heir, and a famous painter, narrowly avoided capture and execution by the Order of the Faith, fleeing to join a pirate ship.... A ship captained by the infamous "Reynard LeRoublard." And with him went the family's good name, it's wealth, and its future. This left Avery with precious little. Loyal to the de la Jambe-Longue family, and no stranger to aristocratic excesses himself Avery only evaded the long arm of the Order by enlisting in the navy. Avery now serves under the harsh command of Captain Etienne du Coeurgris, aboard a naval vessel with one singular purpose: To find, and capture, or kill, Captain Reynard LaRoublard, and to slay as many pirates as possible along the way. However, Avery has an ulterior motive: He wants to rescue his relative and restore the family name to its rightful status! Watch-out Daniel, 'cause the baby-faced, but heroic and dedicated Avery de la Jambe-Longue is going to find you, rescue you from the clutches of Reynard LaRoublard, and make the "de la Jambe-Longue"s great again! Avery de la Jambe-Longue and company by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr ________________________ I'm back! After a long hiatus, and with a "new" character. Back you ask? Were you ever really here? I should have been. This character, as well as the cast aboard the ship was actually what I originally intended to play, but the Sea Rats needed a leader in the beginning, so I changed my affiliation. And then dropped off the face of the earth due to RL issues. But now I'm back. Builds to come! ~Oleander Aristocrat -

AG - Introduction and Discussion
Dannylonglegs replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Andromeda's Gates
Then I'm glad I steered you away from Mantis! Welcome to AG! Kawashita needs more players anyways, so It's good you chose them! Why is it that no one wants to join Octan though? Ah-well. We'll absorb you all eventually. ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
And Lil' Longlegs' reputation as having an unfair advantage continues as well! Well, if the robot could actually stand with its legs fully extended.... Really though. Take the agents' gun and clip piece out from below the knee, and my mech is done for. Kinda. Unless it actually shrinks down. In the pictures I show, I've extended the legs pretty much as far as they can realistically go without caving in and giving 0 support to the rest of the mech. Also, That's kind-of the point of the build. When stretched-out as far as actually possible with the parts involved, in the right direction, including altering the torso's configuration, I can make the robot go 6 studs over (including the antenna part) but it could never stand like that, nor is it ever intended to be viewed like that. Without altering the torso's configuration, but counting full leg extension. I'm at more like 1 stud over, tops. It may actually still be legal, but as I've pointed out, I never built a box, and I'm just eye-balling it. It doesn't show well in the pictures, but my robot is actually 2-3 studs shorter, standing-up, than the limit requires. It's the torso's versatility that I consider to be its least legitimate feature, as opposed to its long legs. If I move the torso up to its highest point, then I'm over the limit. but realistically, I'd never do that, as its underside is not aesthetically attractive, and then its arms wouldn't be able to reach an opponent. Dr. Long would never break the rules... but she is certainly willing to walk the fine line. If my personal opinion matters, I love "Black Ivan" and totally wouldn't be averse to fighting that sum-bum in the ring! Mostly because in every single action shot, your mech is featured with its fingers and wrist clenched into a fist and at its tightest position... like a punch-boxer... as opposed to a wrestler. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

[Challenge 5][Cat A] Octan old S-UNIT model TT
Dannylonglegs replied to Professor Thaum's topic in AG1 Archive
Fittingly modified by your good professor to fit the rules of the sport! Frankly, I like it better with the hands anyways. great work! I like the little light on the back. It's a good touch! The claw hand is very effective! I expect he'll be very efficient at bringing down his enemies in the ring, like he brought down mighty trees in his past life! May the odds be in your favour! ~Insectoid Aristocrat -
As I've said elsewhere, this is a wonderful ship. Super slick, super subtle and covert! The anglature of the build is quite impressive. Reminds me of my own build, here, that I never fleshed out quite as well. And I love those engines. Superb work! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Octan seems to be keenly interested in producing robots with unusually proportioned attributes! Really great job integrating that massive head! What a unique idea! awesome mech! May the odds be in your favour! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Awesome continuation of this story arc! Dr. Long will be quite upset that Alien fire upon our base. Quite upset indeed. And I do wonder what Alien could be planning to do with a weaponized strain of Black eye (which is not to say that Oct an developed those samples with that being their intended purpose.) Dr. Long will just have to work extra hard now to ensure that every Oni-Ren on Onix is immune to the virus. One way or another. The builds are nice! I like the lab scene. Very practical looking. And the new ALIEN ship is nice too! ~Insectoid Aristocrat
