  1. Great cars 6R4s I knew someone who had one and took it to the pub each week during the summer. I also remember seeing a large scale brick built 6R4 as part of a collection at Bricktastic show in Manchester this year.
  2. Great little tracked vehicle and love the complexity you’ve got in your mechanism. The main thing I don’t like visually is I think the crane arm looks too bulky when you consider the length of the vehicle it’s mounted too. To me it looks like a crane from another vehicle mounted on this. But otherwise it’s great
  3. Once you start physically building the project please do post some photos here of your progress I’m sure lots of us will be interested in how you get on. another potential route is to mount the drive motors inside the main body and then have axles running down each “leg” with 90deg gears to then drive the wheels. I’ve not built this but the one issue I can see it it’ll do funny things as the suspension moves. you’ve set yourself quite an interesting and potentially complex engineering problem .. good luck
  4. No way to motorise it unfortunately due to where the body sits relatively to the wheels
  5. Minor update from me, some evolution… firstly a tweak of the leg geometry then I went digital to refine the chassis as it was too wide … and also to properly mount the motors So next it’s wait for some Bricklink / TLG orders and also have a think about bodywork
  6. It’s a shame to read about Sariel but I have to admit that I switched off from watching his reviews a long time ago. I really liked his presentation style, it was very professional, but I just felt his reviews were overtly critical and to me felt the negatives were more important than the positives.
  7. To quote @Jim from the discussion thread …
  8. So I wanted to do something different and with this competition Jim and Milan have given me the opportunity to try a build I’ve been longing to do for a while. So I let my brain go nuts ! Firstly I built this … That soon progressed to this … Which yesterday grew into this … And then today evolved into this … Which moves like this … I’d seen a 3D printed robot on YouTube (Robothut) and I’ve made a Lego interpretation of the leg mechanism. Things to do: 1. Optimise leg geometry 2. Determine best leg sequencing 3. Steering - Do I control each set of legs individually or do I make the body bend? 4. Refine chassis construction, make the body narrower - got a plan for this already. 5. Work out what the rest of the vehicle looks like! 6. Ponder what to do with other functions Next update won’t be for a while as my parents are visiting next weekend.
  9. One for @Jim and @Milan - with the Bricklink issue at the moment and the unknown time to resolve do we think it could disrupt/delay this competition? I know that if it’s down for a long period of time I might have to completely rethink what I'm currently building.
  10. Interesting build so far. How are you going to make sure it’s not the Komatsu ? Remember one of the rules is not licenced.
  11. Indeed but I was assuming it would be another NASA based set, I can’t see them doing Soviet space programme equipment
  12. Completely the wrong design for the 1970s LRV they may use them on the loader though
  13. A technic LRV (moon rover) … so custom wheels I’m guessing (wishing for). curiously was used 1971 & 1972 (Apollo 15, 16 & 17) … not 1970 2024 the year of space … all good for me. Still hoping Lego does an ICONS version of SpaceX Starship to go alongside the Saturn V
  14. Yes I was thinking of replicating the arctic “snowflake” logo used on the technic theme if I opt for white as my base colour. But still not sure which colour scheme I’ll do yet. Depends on how the build goes and what parts are available first
  15. I couldn’t see a rule about Stickers? Are custom stickers allowed? Or creating your own versions of Lego stickers/logos
  16. Interesting idea, I’ve never seen a technic train before. I look forward to seeing how this progresses. i thought about a screw drive vehicle but have gone down another route with my entry. I’m not going to post until I’ve got a working concept though!
  17. Thanks, I’ll have a check if I’ve got any 1L worm gears
  18. I tried the offset in both directions and I’m still not getting a good mesh, but thanks for your help. Anyone else got good experiences at worm gears and bevels?
  19. Hi I’m after some help with worm gears and what gears they mesh to. I was trying to start with 4716 Worm Gear and I can see it meshes easily to 3648 the 24 tooth gear but can you mesh it to the 28 or 36 tooth double bevel gears? When I marry them up it looks like I get a spacing that doesn’t look like whole studs or even half a stud. Or are there some other suggestions. I’d ideally like to use one of these 2 bevel gears. Thanks
  20. I don’t see why not. As you say the City line has lots of aircraft
  21. I’m torn between 2 ideas at the moment both very different. One quite conventional and one a lot more complex. Might have to start playing with both ideas to see where they take me. I don’t think either will be a podium model but I build for the challenge and something I’m pleased with
  22. Yes it would but you never know with TLG, especially when you see the lazy mistakes they make with Star Wars minifigures with sets. Im expecting / hoping the LT78 Loader and LT81 Spaceship link together. Would be nice if the Rover is the same scale too
  23. Next year hopefully will be a great year for Space as City have a new line too. I better start saving my pennies already. I hope the technic space vehicles are all interlinked and the same scale.
  24. You’ve laid down the gauntlet @Jim going to get my thinking cap on and try to come up with something a bit random
