Hi @ilovemakinglegorcraceonyt can I make a suggestion about forum etiquette. This is the 3rd or 4th thread you’ve started in only a couple of days. You’ll find threads like And a great help. also if these are all posts about one model you’re working on the normal etiquette would be to create a single thread and ask all these questions in there. Some people often have a single thread for all their MOCs for example Perhaps @Milan or @Jim could combine all your posts into one thread for you. You can always rename a thread once you’ve created it. it sounds like you’re trying to do a lot all at once and it’s great that you’re asking all these questions. And remember don’t forget there’s a search function which is very useful. Octan is a classic Lego creation, it’s their fictional “oil/petrol” company that’s been around for decades. creating something that’s a play on words related to Lego is fun, or consider that lots of real car companies are based around the founders name … Porsche Ferrari Lamborghini Bentley McLaren TVR (short for Trevor) to name just a few if I was to give one further piece of advice. Work on one thing at a time, once that’s done move onto the next stage. It sounds like you’re working on 50,000 things all at once! good luck with your car creation

I think you’re possibly trying to run before you can walk. like your other thread I’d suggest you look though some official Lego instructions to see how Lego do things. If you’re after powered cars take a look at the top gear car and the new Audi etron for examples of how they do it. stud.io is a good computer building tool but it doesn’t do any virtual testing for you, the only way to see if things work is to build it in reality as Others have suggested also start with basics and slowly build up the one thing I’ve learned with motors and gears is they often need a lot more bracing than you think to ensure gears don’t slip/skip

What you’ve got there isn’t a differential. As others have said what you’re doing there is trying to turn each wheel in different directions. If you look as official models with a differential you’ll see how they work. For the scale and speed of your model I don’t think it’ll need a differential so I’d just use a single drive gear on an axle connecting both wheels. heres a video about differentials

Great little model there, very in keeping with the classic technic Arctic sets -

This is the version I did the Errata, in the first post you’ll see a pdf which gives you the steps you need to use instead of the main instructions. -

@n8walker I’ve spent a bit of free time today playing with how small I can get the mechanism. Firstly I returned it to a single drive so it’ll go forward and back but not turn. The model I used as reference had this too. Then changing to the smaller non bevel gears and also the 3l worn gear I get this. so I think you could have a 11 wide chassis instead of 21 (excluding legs) so almost half size. But as I said this will only for forward and back. i don’t think reducing the height of the mechanism is going to be easy though as you need to securely lock the gears in place so they don’t skip on the worm gear. The stuff above to move and support the legs can’t be shrunk much from my original model, but I’ll try and remove at least one stud in height. Leg geometry might be interesting as the drive point and support are closer by a stud so not sure how well that’ll work. ill have a further plat at some point as curious as to how this ends up -
Looks like a great start. not sure how you posted those pictures but I only see part of them on my iPhone and have to click on each individually to see the full image. i was wondering if anyone would take a City set and convert it to Technic and I’m glad someone had taken in that challenge. good luck

Thanks. There’s room for improvement (isn’t there always) but I’m happy enough with the model I’ve created. -
Arctic Walker “When Wheels or Tracks just don’t cut it, take a leisurely walk across the ice field.” A 1-man walking exploration vehicle using classic Arctic Technic colour scheme. Functions: 1. Seasider replied to n8walker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well the competition says using one of 2 colour schemes. So as you’ve gone white for your main colour you should use red and yellow accent colours. Your yellow legs fit with how yellow was used before. -

Remember there are ice sheets and not just soft powder snow. And TLG themselves have done walkers and unusual vehicles for their arctic theme -

You’re welcome to the Stud.io file once I’ve finished it. The reason I used worn gears is that the 3D printed model I found on YouTube used a single worm thread to drive all the legs via a single motor. The other advantage with using a worm gear as the drive is it then locks the legs in place securely. The hardest part is making sure you react the loads from the legs into the body. -

That’s an impressive model, and great how the 2 vehicles link. But a shame it’s not very smooth in the large vehicle, it kind of makes the smaller model the main model. I think to fit the theme better a splash of red and yellow would really lift this model further. Otherwise very impressive -
I’ve switched off from Sariels reviews. I find him too negative about sets and in my opinion doesn’t give a balanced view or a view that considers the main customer (not the vast majority of us). I far prefer RacingBrick ( @kbalage ) or Jang these days. These pull back models have a place, my nephew loves all the monster truck ones.

Glad you’re doing an entry. The fact I had a figure and some skis led to my colour choices too. Looking forward to how this turns out. Don’t forget a splash of red and yellow -

Glad someone else has gone unusual in terms of method of movement too. I think the biggest challenge will be keeping your central bit level as it drives as you’re normally reliant of the weight counteracting the drive of the wheel. Good Luck -

I thought about adding discs as feet but I think it’ll spoil the look. Perhaps it’s just for exploring the frozen ice shelves and not fresh snow areas
