  1. Technic Axles aren’t the strongest things in torsion so if you’re having problems with a 10L I’d suggest you change to shorter axles and 2L or 3L connectors where you have gaps between liftarms/beams. You’ll often find this sort of usage in official models
  2. Hello all, I couldn’t find a thread on display cases or wall mounts so thought I’d ask here. I know @kbalage has reviewed some wall mounts for the supercars but they’re very expensive. Have other people used any other brands to display theirs ? I’ve seen a company called Unique Display here in the U.K. but not seen any reviews
  3. So this is where my brain is at … Unfortunately this project isn’t going well for me, it’s been floating around my desk for a while and as I’ve slowly developed a bit here and there it’s grown as a model and developed as an idea but not I’m at the stage where I’m just not feeling it anymore. Perhaps life has got in the way of this build too much but that’s how things are sometimes. Here’s a shot of where I got to. By the time you’ll read this I’ll have started to rip it apart and hopefully I’ll get back to spending the little Lego build time I have on building the Mazda model.
  4. In any other year I’d have said to yes to this but I’ve got a special birthday this year and instead I’m driving the North Coast 500 (Scotland) with my father. Hopefully 1 year I’ll get to a eurobricks event :)
  5. Just shows I need to check the homepage more often. 🤣 some great entries so far
  6. I love this model but surely promoting just this one on the front page when it’s part of an ongoing competition is wrong?
  7. Its been over 6 months since I posted here and as I was updating my TC24 thread I thought I’d post pictures of where I got to. the model I last posted progressed into this, some random panels to give me a basic form to visualise, you’ll also notice a load of axles along the centreline. These gave me a rough profile for the car. From this I then did these. trying to work out the position of the engine relative to the front axle (right - blue pin is axle z position) and steering wheel to engine. And the last I got to was this … A rough layout including steering in the right location. the project then stalled at this stage as I’m trying to work out how to solve the popup headlamp problem. I won’t be picking this up again until after TC24
  8. Weekend update from me. As planned I turned the fuselage section into real bricks, with a few tweaks to the design along the way. I’m still not 100% on the final position of the canopy piece and how it attaches back into the structure. As you’ll notice the nose is missing some which panels too. Then I created this, based off a Grumman X-29 to be my proof of concept model. All good engineers need a proof of concept model once in a while! Next stage is to work out how big I want these wings to be and work out how to convert them into panels/lift arms.
  9. And I’ve just preordered one 😎
  10. Managed to preorder Rex and Cody but strangely Boussh disappeared from the U.K. store while I was trying to preorder
  11. So glad to get a Boussh helmet, so much better than what would have been Leia’s Endor helmet. I was hoping this was coming out when they did the helmets linked to ROTJ.
  12. Quick update from me. I wasn’t liking the shape of the fuselage it was too vertical for what I was thinking. So I did a slight redesign and then I’ve been working on what the nose looks like. Here’s my WIP render… At the moment the nose isn’t attached to the rest. Plan is to get it all connected and then build physically at some point later this week, this weekend. In terms of the rest of the design I’m aware some of the rims I’ve used aren’t available in black. I need to decide if them in LBG is an issue as I like the shaping. Also I have an idea for the function this ship will have, the plan is to have a transition from Space and Atmospheric flight modes. Not sure what that will mean or look like as yet but that’s my idea.
  13. Insectoid space craft are cool … just think of Black Panther, Dune or Lexx
  14. Yes I’ve decided (because of the canopy) that I’m going for an even width … at least at the nose. The tail end of the craft may switch to odd studs but we’ll see
  15. @Erik Leppen the curved panel is actually black, just looks dark blue in the photo. I was thinking white and black like Space Police 3 and Japanese police cars.
  16. Looks good so far, a bit like a space shuttle cockpit/nose shape. You have definitely made more progress than me.
  17. I’m just playing about with which rims to use to make some cylinders to be the engines. The ones here are 56145, 32020 and 56908 just loosely stacked. But I might not use this combination. See how it goes. As to tyres I’m not planning on using any to make the look of the engines Wheels can be used to build with, they just can’t be wheels for this competition
  18. So I’ve had a bit of time yesterday and today to have a play around with a few parts and some Stud.io and I thought it was worth while starting this to show my thought process. Firstly I was never into Space Police, it was as the start of my dark ages, so I had to look at what they looked like, but I’m going to build something original. My project started with 2 things … 1. Use a Technic Figure 2. Use the canopy piece from 10497 Galaxy Explorer - why can’t they have cool yellow canopies instead of dark blue? So from a couple of hours playing around I got this … Which as you can see is a crude cockpit and a collection of wheels/tracks (read as engines) and some ribbed hoses. Unfortunately the cockpit is stressed at the rear, the yellow panels causing this. So it’s matured to this … Which has the added advantage that I’ll be able to open the cockpit too. As to the big question of what this will look like … who knows ? I’m going with a fluid freestyle on this one and see where it takes me. I haven’t come up with a name for it either yet!
  19. Well I think you’ve got the photo to go with this competition care of @Jundis. I’m hoping to get cracking on this at the weekend. Not sure what it’s going to look like as yet and think I’ll start with a random collection of mini builds and just see how it goes together. No idea on functions!
  20. I knew I wanted to study engineering at uni and at the time was into aircraft and fancied doing something different to just standard mechanical engineering. But during my studies my interest switched to formula 1 and then at the end of uni I ended up in the car industry instead.
  21. I’m an aeronautical engineer by education but automotive by career. I can’t think of many things Technic has taught me about the real world of engineering apart from doing research into how some mechanisms work and then how to replicate them. One of my favourites was my fairground ride where I managed to find photos and videos of the real mechanisms
  22. I’ve abandoned my entry for the sci-fi thread so looking forward to this
  23. Looks like some interesting new parts / parts in new colours coming this year.
  24. How have they done the headlights ? New parts ?
