  1. So I’m pretty much done. thanks to @msk6003 I built this … I added some bits to mean it can only moved the switch in one direction to stop me flicking the switch too far meaning the lights stay on. Then I worked on mounting this and the tailgate mechanism. But the light mech was too long for the space I had left so as you’ll notice the IR Receivers have moved forward in the vehicle to free up some space. This meant taking the whole thing apart to move the main drive motors 1 leg forward. Thankfully I build this in a modular fashion so it was easy to take apart and update. And now it’s all back together and resting on a “work stand” I also made to help with assembly. Just a few System pieces left to tidy a couple of areas and that’s it. I’ve also been working on a Stud.io file to go with this, as I try to do with all my builds. But that’s missing the legs at the moment so no pictures at the moment from that. Controller is quite easy … Yellow Left = Left Legs Black = Tailgate Red = Lights Yellow Right = Right Legs Proper pics and video to come once I’ve added the system bits. I’ll have to work out where to take them, we don’t get snow around Christmas here so I think it’ll indoor shots.
  2. I’d say build to whatever scale you want. A small neat model with lots of functions can be way more impressive than a large model with lots of space for functions
  3. I can’t wait for the day I have to decide do I swoosh my Ornithopter or my VTOL … and I’m not joking. Im a big space fan in general (not just Lego) so to get such an influx of space stuff is great for me. I also like that these are all original models and not licenced sets. Sets in my pre-dark ages weren’t licenced so I’m glad for this. Good to see some creativity
  4. Having just watched @kbalage’s YouTube video I can just picture TLG employees swooshing this VTOL and the Dune Ornithopter around the design office together. Genuinely impressed with the size of this, didn’t picture it as big as it is
  5. I think going multi-hull or pontoons would be strange for an icebreaker. I agree with others you need to bring down the centre of gravity on your model, it looks very vertical. thanks for the link about the propulsion method, very interesting, I can understand why in scenarios when you need ultimate manoeuvreability it works well. All the tugs I’ve see in use have been traditional props.
  6. With the wheel size to body ratio it reminds me a little of the Antarctic Snow Cruiser.
  7. So I’ve been having some very good build time on this and it’s almost complete. First of all I played with the legs and their sequence. My model up to this point had legs 1&3 at 180 degrees on the large gear to legs 2&4. But as @1gor pointed out it rocked back and forth a lot. I then tried each leg using the drive gear at 90deg to the next which turned out to be even worse. It turned out the answer had been staring me in the face the whole time (as the model I used as inspiration from YouTube uses the pairings of inside and outside, so 1&4 and 2&3 with 180deg difference on the drive gear. It’s much smoother. So what does the model look like … I’ve got a cockpit I’m happy with … Most of the electrics worked out … And even done some finishing touches to borrow from the old Arctic theme (because by pure chance I bought an old technic set from a market and it actually had 3 inside the box, one being 8620 which gave me the figure and skis!) But still some things to do … 1. Mount the linear actuator for the rear door. I’ve got the position sorted, just not mounted it yet. 2. Shorted the legs so they don’t stick above the joint. If you look you’ll see the leg design has changed where I’ve made the cranked liftarms to be the middle section, not the final section. This gave me better ground clearance but all the final beams are 2 studs too long at present. 3. Await a Bricklink order to correct some parts currently in the wrong colour. 4. Create some classic Arctic Technic stickers. But a question … it there any way to make lights switch on/off using PF without just holding the switch in place? Enjoy
  8. Interesting boat, never seen that type of propulsion before. Remember this is a technic competition so I’d avoid making a ship superstructure from too many System parts
  9. That’s a great entry. Very compact and cute little snowcat.
  10. Ok another question I want to stop an axle from pulling out under load, what’s better a single bush or 2 half width bushes?
  11. A quick and easy one clutch gear (old style) if I want to have a motor connected to a shaft that may lock and I want to put a clutch gear in between to prevent motor damage should I put it motor side or output side of the 2 gears ?
  12. Just seen @kbalage’s video. I didn’t realise the Space theme also fed across to DUPLO. So the whole family can be involved.
  13. And the Friends set too has the same Orange connector so you could connect Technic to City to Friends so all the family could build together
  14. @Jim have you seen 42605 the Mars Space Base and Rocket. It’s got the classic space logo and looks coherent with the City Space stuff … but no Friends sets for me.
  15. I’m getting both the city and technic space themed sets, but then I love anything space related (but not the Friends stuff) 2024 is going to be expensive
  16. So this is how I held the large gear in place … With both the large gear and worm gear held between 2 frames. This meant the position the legs are mounted on the body moved 2 studs up relative to the gears. So I gave it a “smooth” belly to remove some visual weight and get the best ground clearance I could. And it works without any gear cracking You don’t realise how relieved I was that this worked. So time to do some bodywork which will be quite simple on this … Sorry for the poor lighting on this. Now I need to work out what the nose/cockpit looks like
  17. So has anyone started to create a list of new parts / parts in new colours? I can (obviously) see the new red/orange coloured parts, 2 wheel designs in a light blueish grey (not sure the shade) and it looks like LBG 3x19 frames (on the rover)
  18. Plus the City Space sets … and Speed Champions … and McLaren MP4/8 … and Merc F1 … and Star Wars midi ships … it’s going to be a very expensive H1 in 2024!
  19. The amount of functions and stuff with this set is great. And great to have an actual theme in a single year. I can see the classic space logo on this but not the ship and loader.
  20. Looks like grey version of the Jeep tyres
  21. Just seen the technic space sets on Instagram and I like it. Good to see a collection of models as a theme. I like the look of the dropship more than the other 2. I also like the use of “LT” (assume Lego Technic) instead of “L” for the vehicle codes. So do we think only the “container” on the drop ship connects to the small surface loader. the one thing I can’t see is if the classic space logo is actually on the models and not just on the boxes. 2024 is going to be expensive!
  22. Well the Merc F1 won’t be a 2024 car or livery that much is for sure. Way too secretive. I find the CADA Merc deal more interesting as they’ve had a deal with Lego for a good number of years now with Speed Champions
  23. A minor update from me … Mk2 Chassis built … And it looked good … In fact it’s a CRACKING model … ARGH! Put the problem down to here … Where the large gear can lift away from the worm gear as it’s only attached via a frictionless 2L axle pin. So … Mk3 Chassis … where I sandwich the large gears and worm gear between 2 5x7 Frames. Makes it 2 studs wider but I think I can work with that. Hopefully more progress at the weekend, and another test if this has fixed the cracking of the gears. I’m hoping the motors will be able to cope with the weight!
  24. Hi and welcome to the forum. Firstly good luck with building this, I’ve been trying to build a 1:8 scale car for ages and not got very far (all my own fault). In terms of your issues some photos of what you’ve got so far are more likely to help people understand where your issues are. Just recommending a piece without knowing how it will fit with others is tricky especially as we can’t visualise what this looks like in 1:8 technic easily. Someone might recommend a part and it would completely throw the rest of your work out. For example for the grille are you after pieces to make the grille or the Jag badge on the grille ? Not easy to understand from your description. Finally a couple of bits of Eurobricks etiquette… You don’t need a thread title that long, think short and snappy Newspaper headline. If you called this thread 1:8 Jaguar CX-75 you’d still get interest. The rest of the text could have then gone in your post. Don’t forget to introduce yourself… we’re a a friendly bunch. Also for this sort of post you may actually want to use the “Generic Building Help Topic” which is at the top of this forum. That’s where a lot of these sort of questions get asked. Finally you’ve chosen a very interesting vehicle, shame it never made it into production. I recently saw one in the British Motor Museum. Good luck with this
  25. Thanks, I trust/hope you’re got a model being built too? Yes the first chassis was a mess, I often build like this to work out where I need connections and support and then refine as I go on. Version 2 of the chassis is 6 studs narrower and should be better in terms of solidity. As to the gearing at the moment the new chassis will be effectively direct drive onto the axle with the worm gears. I wasn’t planning on trying to speed it up as I think this should be more of a crawler (literally) rather than a vehicle who’s legs move quickly. Hope to physically build (at least some of) this revised chassis this weekend. Also been working on the body in the digital model.
