42160 Audi RS Q e-tron
Seasider replied to keymaker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great review as always. Surprised by how big it is. Don’t think it’s a buy from me though but definitely interesting -

Don’t start it yet @Jim I’m away on holiday at the moment … back home Sunday. -
Glad the batmobile still exists as a set and happy to see it’s similar to the one from the shadow box. I’ll have to mod it to remove the gear wheel for the guns, I just don’t like the way it sticks out. eill be looking to see a side by side comparison of the 2 and perhaps a look through the build instructions

I agree with others … wait to see how much this ends up being in a sale … build it without the front. Build the batskiboat and buy a custom Catwoman that looks so much better
-
But it looks like the operation of this is a Technic black gear which sticks out on the right side of the car.
-
Part of me likes it … but thinks I’d just remove the front wall and leave it as that to display. Catwoman is a huge disappointment, such an iconic character and outfit in Returns and TLG have dropped the ball on this. I just hope I can get the batmobile on its own if the other set is still going to exist.

Looks like there are 5 “functions” in a similar vein to the Indian Jones set. But I can’t work out what each does. Looks like the second rotates his chair in front of the bat computer. I’m very divided on this. I like the idea but not the execution. I need the batmobile as I’ve been after a minifig Keaton era one (hoping the batmobile set still launches). Also for something like this I’d expect more minifigures !

How to start on making a car?
Seasider replied to d0mka's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So on my (very) slow car build (too busy doing other stuff) I started by building a basic frame to get the track and wheelbase right. Then did some basic blocky bodywork to see if it looked right. then I made a second chassis with steering and suspension still with the correct wheelbase but still basic connection purely for position On that I’ve then added the engine and steering wheel where I needed them (as I’m copying a real car). at that point I froze and didn’t know how to continue but I went to a Lego user group show recently and speaking to a guy there he advised to do the dashboard then the seats and then work on the bodywork. but be prepared to rip stuff up and start again and try to build modular if possible -

Looking forward to the NASA rover and the Yamaha bike. I googled the Audi as I didn’t know what it was. Some mad off road race thing, so not on my watch list -

Enjoy the cruise @Jim. I’m away end of May too, look forward to whatever you have planned next. -

And there I was thinking the point was so we could all moan about the rules, ask for changes to them and also ask for extensions with the closing date all without posting a WIP until the last minute. (lots of sarcasm… not meant to be serious) -

All this is great discussion but remember the rules will be whatever @Jim and @Milan come up with all you’re doing is pure guesswork / conjecture. -

We’ve had a C model contest before. TC5 almost 10 years ago now! So perhaps something to revisit. I think limiting the sets that are selectable would be a good idea to then focus the challenge better than the last time we ran it. -

I don’t ever start a build until I know what the full set of rules are going to be. For the shrinking one I’m still also looking through sets and thinking what would I like to shrink and I’m thinking possibly an older model rather than a recent one but apart from that I’ve drawn a blank -

I’ve got no idea as yet but fancy doing something random -

I think the next competition shouldn’t be a shrinking one if we’re got people already having a go at it … just let the last competition finish first everyone.
