42078 - Mack Anthem
Seasider replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry got not trawling through all be pages but does anyone know if this is the same (or similar) scale to the 42009 B model stacker? Both from is the scale for driver/vehicle the same and are the containers similar sizes? -
As has already been said, the wheels are definitely too small given the overall proportions and the engine is in the wrong way place. If it’s Front engined it should have its centre of mass directly above the front axle (worse case) or better rear of the front axle. The engine is the heaviest single item in an ICE car (or batteries for BEVs) and because of this you want this mass between the axles otherwise handling is “interesting”

So black and blue has to be the obvious colour scheme for this? do we think it’ll be all Technic or some brick builds to capture all the important shapes, side curves, rear light strip etc ? -

Technic 2018 Set Discussion

Looking forward to seeing this in the Plastic (seen it in the Metal) Can I be the first to point out that Porsche and Bugatti are the same family ... just hope they continue this trend as I'd love a model of the cars I work on ;) -
[TC13] Crossbow
Seasider replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My final model. I shortened the area in front of the motor. Completely changed how the “bolt” trough and mechanism was and then narrowed the “wings”. I also then built a black stand for it. -
11. Crossbow I tried to create something a little different and utilise the “explosive” power of a pullback motor. So here we have the MkIV version of my crossbow. It uses a single pullback motor, you manually pull back the lever to load and it has a trigger underneath in a typical “pistol grip”. I also made a little stand for it for when not in use. thats a beautiful collection and display case. I've only got the FW14B and MP4/4, they're broken up in their boxes at the moment as I don't have anywhere in the house to put them on permanent display which also means i've never printed off and added the stickers. I'm still hoping one day he'll do the Lotus 97T and that will then complete my trilogy of great F1 cars

loving the look of it -
@Lock - I've been following your various mods. Do you have a parts list/LDD for you final version of the Engine Mod ? I'm not going to stick in LEDs and I haven't started to build my falcon yet but I do like the engine mod you've done. I'm hoping to start my build in April when I finally get a clean desk area to build on

To operate you pull the light grey axle / red cranked lift arms back, they wind the motor and pull the bolt carrier back ( long steering racks). The red thin lift arms with curve holds it in place. There is then a red lift arm at the trigger underneath to release the mechanism. It’ll be clearer once I take better pics and a video -

And here we have Mk3 ... and it's almost complete. Just a little tidying and finessing to do. -

Where are you putting the motor? The problem I’ve found is the torque in the motors when wound. I had a lift arm as the winding mechanism and found with this passing through 2 lift arms to the mechanism too much twist was occurs in the axle connecting the lift arm -
Ferraris can be yellow as that’s the colour of Modena. Well yellow and blue to be precise. i get what everyone means about if the vette ends up mid engined then it may end up generic supercar shaped. working in the industry I never trust artist impressions as they appear on the internet as I know how wrong they can be. personally I’d love a Lego technic Bentley (can’t think why :) ) just imagine a W12 technic engine !

@Jim Well I’m a Brit but still apreciate Amercian cars from time to time. I loved the new ford GT. @ShowsOn I think 2 of the H2 sets come with PF in the box. The Crane and the Forest thing. -
Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry @Jim to add to the speculation/discussion but how about the new C8 Corvette ? Rumoured to be mid-engined (based off spy shots of prototypes) and also rumoured to be shown for the very first time at this years Detroit motor show (end Jan). The car itself is due to be sold end of 2018 / early 2018. it ticks a lot of boxes ... existing licence, well known brand, supercar, etc -
Thanks Jim, I’d only just had a sleepless night where I’d wondered about completely ripping my model to pieces and trying a couple of different options to solve the problems I’m having

I’ve hit a problem, it’s called Torque! so yesterday I built mk2, tried to make it more structural and tried to add some flair. What I ended up with after a couple of hours was this ... the idea behind this is you pull the red lever back and the curved beams (sitting too low in this version) then hold them till release. all well and good you say ... but not so The problem is the axles going from the handle to the large 40t gears. The torque is twisting them over the 2L span from the red lift arm to the gear. I know this as if I push the black steering racks to wind up the motors I get less movement of the red lift arms for the same amount of wind. hmm ... -
Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Anyone know when the communication starts on the car? I remember there was a job advertised on here that was to do with communication for the new set. I decided not to apply because I work in the industry and could have been a “conflict of interest” if it’s based off existing Speed Champions licence I’d like it to be either the new ford GT or even a Chiron. Shame Bentley isn’t an existing licence :) -
Hi all, after saying I wasn’t going to take part in this one we cut our time away from Home for various reasons so I’ve had some building time this morning. I’d been trying to work out 2 things either how to regulate the output from the pullback motor so get a slower release of energy or what to do with the explosive energy it gives. Late last night I had a brainwave and this is the result. ok this is only proof of concept at the moment. Update ! worked out a trigger mechanism! next stage is to refine the assembly and then see if I can make it fire something.

Which version did you use @axiom ? i ideally want to use the more vertical version 2 stand
