[TC12] Dastardly Dodgem
Seasider replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Bit of an update from me ... reworked the drive area and started to block in some panels. still think it might be a little slab sided but hey. Hopefully will get an hour of build time tomorrow as I'm now away on business next week. Got to "unfortunately" drive some cars. -

A certain W12 is a V6 nested inside another V6 or that's the easiest way it's often described at work -

Some more progress this weekend. Took me 6 iterations to get the front wheel setup how I wanted it. Took ages to work out the optimum wheel size for the position i needed t to be. Then took a while to work out where this mounted in the Chassis and then had to strip the Chassis apart a few times to get it to fit. So it's all positioned ok. Just that it doesn't work when I place it on the ground! I can see the steering drive is opening up on the top (should be easy to fix with some bracing) but the drive is also going click click click and I think that's hidden underneath in an area that's going to be difficult to add more bracing. oh I've also been reworking the side bumpers as I think they're flexing too much and causing a misalignment but I haven't got those built into the Chassis yet, just sitting randomly on the lounge carpet. next build time for me will be hopefully Tuesday night (most probably while listening to the House of Apple talk about new phones) -

The one with the light grey gear and red tube. Hopefully it'll run ok on a single motor. -

Some updates from an hour during the week and then a good 3 hours this afternoon. Thank heavens some old engineering companies don't work on a Friday afternoon. Updated mechanism for the above ... this did lead me to having the revelation that not all large turntables are the same and in fact I have a type 2 and a type 3. I still had the original (see initial thread post) assembled as I was refining it to this version and wondered why the gearing didn't work. I also worked out I need 2 of the same turntable for what I want to do. Some form of mechanism on some sort of frame. The white frame at this point was for sizing. An outer ring? Couldn't build this till today, thank the Lego gods that my bricklink order arrived today. And where I ended up today. I even mounted a servo motor and the rear wheels. Plan for the weekend is to try and mount the front wheel mechanism (see pic no1 in this post) and then perhaps start on the body work. I've bought a very special Lego piece for that ... a piece that got me thinking along the lines for this model to start with. For those of you interested the vehicle is currently 41 studs long and 23 studs wide Next update from me on Sunday -

Nothing to see here ... just a load of chat :( -
Is your name missing an "a" and an "e" or are you having a meal with your vehicle ?

Would love it to be a new Tantive IV. If they followed a similar theme to the MF they could refine the exterior detailing. I wouldn't add an interior as it just won't be anywhere near to being to scale. Unless you include a couple of small corridors to capture the gun battle and leia / R2 handover

Was just reading Brick Fanatics during my lunch break at work and saw this ... http://www.brickfanatics.co.uk/the-lego-group-celebrates-40-years-of-lego-technic-today/ Unfortunately I'll be at work then so won't be able to watch the stream, wonder if there will be a surprise for us ? Happy 40th Technic !

[TC12] The Unrollable
Seasider replied to kodlovag's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a great little model, got a hint of Lotus to it. Can't wait to see it in the Brick. Curious as to how the flipping works. might have to build one myself if you don't mind sharing LDD files once the competition is over -
Wings look great and so does the tail area. i agree that the engines are too close to the fuselage, need pushing out a few studs. as to the colour, easily fixable with a few stickers

Had some more looks at photos of commercials and I've worked it out. Your leading edge is most probably ok but with the trailing edge it isn't often a straight line but has a "crank" in it so the wing is wide at its root and the trailing edge comes out almost perpendicular to the fuselage for a distance before then being angled back

I like what you've done so far but I'd like to suggest a few little tweaks. i think your wings are too swept back for a commercial plane. If you straighten them slightly perhaps as little as 5 degrees on the leading edge it'll look better. when you do this the wings will also look too far forward, most probably by 2 studs so that should bring it in line with the split between your panels. the wings may be a bit narrow but that'll only show once you have put the engines on it. rear of the fuselage is always difficult as it tapers in 2 directions but looks like you're making good progress keep up the good work

[TC12] Dastardly Dodgem
Seasider replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's tall at the moment as I was just playing around with the mechanism and where parts sit relative to each other. The final model will be a lot shorter. -
So time for me to do a WIP topic. I'm going to make a Dodgem (or Bumper Car depending on where you're from) well that's the starting idea. I was originally planning on a full manual setup but soon changed to PF. Ive just started by trying to work out the 3 main mechanisms, drive, steering and then the other function. As you'll see below I've started on 2 of them. im going to try and get the function worked out next ... most probably some deployable side bumpers. then I'll start reducing the size of the mechanisms and then get a Chassis up and running. more progress next week hopefully, unfortunately away this weekend.

[PRESS RELEASE] 75192 - UCS Millennium Falcon 2017
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just been told by the non-wife that she'll buy it for me for Christmas! She says I obviously want one the amount I've been talking about over the past few weeks. I think it looks so much better than the old UCS with far better detailing on the exterior and love the trick with the stickers for the corridors. God knows where in the house it will go. ... One happy AFOL -

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Seasider replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Now I've seen the preliminary pics (thanks guys) I think the rally car has promise. He hovercraft/ferry fits in the the explorer vessel from this year and I like the look of the catamaran as it's different. What is the red van meant to be? - ah it's a fire truck ... that works too -
Technic 2018 Set Discussion

Haven't seen the pics, any clues as to where to look or have they gone? H1 sets often end up being hit and miss imo. Looking forward to a Mack truck. Wonder what itll look like next to the old black recovery truck, the set that brought me out of the dark ages -
