Yeh but thats contradictory, because if they aim for epicness of the set we surely should not expect Lothlorien (or at most only mirror with frodo and Galadriel, since that was the only iconic part of whole Lothlorien :P Well I would already be happy with Grond+gates(+ a little wall) as a 80$ set and then a nice UCS. A 200$ (or maybe 250$) set with 2700 pieces of Courtyard and white tree and Hall of kings and White tower (tower going atleast 6/10 of Orthanc height) Yeah I did this wave likely and possible on purpose, its the least work for LEGO to do these sets and it would take the least new molds and extra work, but it would be one truly major disappointment indeed.

Balrog only served as a gap to fill to make Gandalf go away from Fellowship. Balrog itself holds no meaning to movie viewers especially since noone, only watching movie knows that Balrogs were once numerous that had a captain Gothmog (which is then name of the Orc Commander infront of Minas Tirith) Not to mention a mare captain of Gondolin (however powerful was he) fought and slain (while dying) that Captain/commander of Balrogs. Balrog is really only an object to remove Gandalf, and while important to us who read other work tied to LOTR it holds little meaning except for epicness of the scene to viewers. People who watched LOTR (casuals) dont even know about Durin all they should to udnerstand the full meaning of Durin's Bane. Treebeard really brings nothing to the whole line except for a named Ent. Witch king sure is important though so I'd support that one definetly. As for Galadriel I'm on the fence. She sure is important in the books and history of Middle Earth as a whole, being the daughter to one of the most powerful Noldors at the time being. They played the importance of Lothlorien up with sending aid to helm's Deep which is not happening in the books (and which I disliked personally) So while I think she is definetly important I personally think nothing more is needed from her than her being with Frodo at the Mirror, which might be the most powerful scene in Lothlorien and can be put in a 15$ set. On the other hand I can't make Gondor armies without Mold of Gondor helm and their great looking shields. :P :P :P :P

Exactly I'm worried for Gondor in LOTR line especially if the 3rd wave is supposed to be the last (as the rumor goes) If thats the case we can expect about 4-6 additional sets. To me it would be nothing worse if we get: 15$ = ??? 30$ = Lothlorien (3 figures) (Galadriel + Frodo + Aragorn/Gimli?) 50$ = Treebeard encounter/Balrog set (5 figures) (old generic Orcs/Moria goblins + Gandalf/Boromir or Merry/Pippin depending on set) 80$ = Witch King attack set (6 figures) (only witch king helmet and Eowyn as new parts) 120$ = screwed up Minas Tirith with no molds for Gondor soldier helmets but Fantasy era neck protector helmets (silver) (8 figures) And then Good bye to the LOTR line forever. That would be my nightmare release and ending of wave 3

I'm not sure if thats ''official'' but i found that picture -
LEGO makes HUGE MAJORITY of money from kids, not AFOLs. thats a fact. And LOTR is no different. If you do not believe me then check google and other sources and find your facts. Thats been debated multiple times. It is, but I did not downplay it the Movie did. Lothlorien in movie gets little screentime compared to most iconic places. Except for theater release I always watched extended so not sure if its the same screentime as theatrical version but I know its not alot. In books lothlorien is much much more important, if for nothing else because there is talks about Lothlorien and Rivendell as the last two bastions that can defend from Sourons will (atleast for some time) not to mention it is known that Aragorn and Arwen meet in Lothlorien and all that love stuff and promises. The movie viewer gets nothing of this. Not to mention Tom Bombadil(or whatever is the correct way to write his last name!), he is also important in books yet casual viewer known nothing of him.

I guess it will either be Aragorn in Gondor attire or Minas Tirith or White Tree!

Thraundil is almost surely coming with the 2nd wave though....

Dont take 1 example butm ajority... and believe me MAJORITY of casual viewers could care less for Lothlorien (kids wise) Those who like LOTR like it because of BATTLES, QUEST, and EPICNESS, not because of Galadriel, Arwen, but fellowship. Im tired of arguing with you guys because you try to play theory of 0. Which means if you find 1 counter you consider it as overthrowing thesis of majority. Ladies have Friends to purchase.

amazing work!

Its not like Lothlorien is THAT much better... nothing but trees, stairs and tree houses really. ;) So? and if youd have to say most memorable scene from FOTR it would not be Weathertop... It would be either Elronds council or Balrog... Paths of the dead is way more memorable because of ghosts. I am not valuing location by its event but by what is more memorising for the casual viewer. And by casual I mean those who NEVER read books and other material that explain Weathertop and other history parts (liek Arwen and Aragorn meeting in Lothlorien) To us places like Weathertop, Lothlorien, etc. have more meaning because we know what happens there many years ago. To a new viewer or a kid. they see Argonath and say ''wow thats a cool thing'' or ''Ghosts, great!'' or ''Minas Tirith looks legendary'' They dont say ''WoW aragorn shows fighting power thats great and important'' or they dont go ''that lady in white is talking narrative and is important'' They see lothlorien for 5 min and dont really care about it.
-
Its not about the name... even if youd sat down LOTR casual viewers (so people who never read books) and tell them to write down 5 places they remember and stand out. Lothlorien will rarely (if at all) be amongst them. Its just not memorable in the movie. There is plenty of stuff without conflict (scenes) most notable merriage of Aragorn and Arwen (but then again it was conflict on that place before) and sail of the ring keepers at the end of the movie 3. etc....

The thing I suspect is wanting Lothlorien has alot to do with wanting as many Elves as possible. Its understandable but trying to sell Lothlorien an important iconic place from the movies is wrong :P

Problem Why I do not participate is the fact I only have about 3.000 pieces currently available for MOCs (still building my terrain needs) I will only be able to participate after New year, when I finally reach 5.000+ pieces and enough to make decent forests/terrain MOCs.

Great scene and Boromir being my favorite LOTR Fellowship part I cannot say anything bad about it. Love statues!

Review: 79007 Battle at the Black Gate
Alcarin replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I dont understand why are they giving us old models of spears continuesly !!! such an annoying stuff to have different looks of spears! -
You are right to some extent, but for example Orc Forge was a perfect set for its price range of 50$. You get 3 generic soldiers a Lurtz and a cool Forge. Its easily justified buying 2 (to put 1 on each side of Orthanc) and you get 4 mordor orcs and 2 generic uruk-hai with only 1 Lurtz needing to sell. See a set like that (and Uruk-hai army) are examples of great sets, with ''iconic'' figures (Lurtz/Eomer) that can be bought multiple times without hindering what you get. And their price range is solid (30$ and 50$) A solution for both Elronds council and Black gates is easy. Adding 2 generic soldier figures and adding 10$ in price (or removing Eagle !) would easily justify buying 2x+ each set. True, those are partial solutions, which cost extra 10-20$ overall (especially due to shipping :P) Not at all. What I want and what my minimum before severe disappointment is are 2 different things my friend ;). I want 5+ Gondor sets (or wish for them) but if they make less than 3 I will be severely disappointed. Its that simple ;) haha good for you, you are right Gimli is fine to use, except the fact I don't like to make armies of dwarfs :P . Elrond and Arwen however are not. the cloak is useful (from Elrond). If you'd go around asking people who watched LOTR 5+ years ago last time and ask them to write or tell you top 3 iconic places they remember from I am pretty SURE Lothlorien will not be around top 3. not even in top 5 probably. Movie made it 2nd rank kind of iconic place. Might be the best out of them 2nd ranked but I think its still 2nd rank. For 1st rank I would put Minas Tirith, Helm's Deep, Barad-Dur, Orthanc, Rivendell, Mines of Moria(Balrog). Maybe even Paths of the Dead and Shire For 2nd rank I would put Lothlorien, Weathertop (as 2 best 2nd ranked) and then Amon-hen, Osgilliath, Ithilien(Oliphant), Bree, Caradhras, etc. For 3rd rank I would put Corsair ship and similar which is funny since thats a flag set for wave 2 O_o Even if we argue with the books and you would have to put 3 most important and memorised scenes out of the book/movie I would easily put Council of Elrond, Balrog, Shire and Boromirs end as more memorising scenes/events than Lothlorien. Hell I would even say (and I realise I forgot it up) Argonath would be a better set than Lothlorien purely for display value ;) Problem is we would again get 1 statue and useless fellowship for double purchase haha. Not bashing Lothlorien I think its a wonderful place but I think its a wave 4/5 + material :P

Sorry to break the bubble but Lothlorien is FAR from iconic... If we just compare it to even lesser iconic buildings like Helm's Deep, Oliphant, not to even start comparing to more iconic things like Barad-Dur itself, and then Orthanc, Minas Tirith, Balrog etc... all those are far more iconic than Lothlorien in movie. Lothlorien goes to the rank of Minas Morgul, Bree, Pass of Caradhrass, and similar, even Council of Elrond is more iconic than Lothlorien. I am talking about MOVIE here though, which means if we look all 3 movies in extended edition Lothlorien is one of the lesser iconic places. I think its one of the worst. I can buy those leaves on bricklink soon enough, if the set could obviously not give us the fellowship, they could atleast provide enough chairs without the need to buy 4+ of the same set. Its the same with Black gate though. See I always feel a problem with a set IF 1. the sets figures do not justify multiple purchases 2. the set does not provide enough figures/objects so 1 set purchase is enough When both those 2 criteria are detected I consider a set as less desirable. 1/2 is ok but not 2/2. For example Uruk-hai army clearly falls on 2. but easily passes on 1. and so on and on. Just take Black gate for example. LEGO makes it with 1 tower and puts 3 baddies and 2 good guys in and 1 Eagle. Now all Good guys are Gandalf and Aragorn. We get 2 generic orc troops which is fine (if they wouldnt give 1 of the Uruk-hai HELMET OMG! but lets leave that) then we get Mouth of Sauron which is sweet and an eagle. So LEGO clearly makes set that requires ATLEAST double if not triple purchase to make ti atleast resembling Black gate in true meaning, but the figure choice is like a 1 time purchase (thanks to good guys especially) So to me thats like LEGO laughing at me. ''buy 2-3 sets and be stuck with 3 Gandalfs and 3 Aragorns to represent the amazing army of nobodies on the ''hill'' infont of Black gates. The issue with Council is the same but with 4-6 buys required to even remotely redo the Council scene. There where around 16 people on the meeting minimum, thats like 6x Council set buy. Thats 1 Ewok Village for comparisson (for EU Council = 40€ and Village will be around 240€ 6x40 = 240 ;)) and then you end up with 6x Frodo, 6x Arwen, 6x Elrond, 6x GIMLI! These figures will be worthless within 3 months and will sell for MAX 2.25€ per figure within 6 months believe me. just look on Gimli now... lowest on BL = 2.25€ not even 3$! As I said I see no problem with multiple set required to be purchased to create the ''up to scale'' LEGO model, but it becomes an issue when figures belonging to set are not even remotely multiple usable. Atleast Eomer I can easily transform to another Rohan Soldier, what am I supposed to do with another 5x Arwens on Elronds council, she wasnt even there and council is the whole idea to put her in in the first place in my opinion. Now I understand its a LEGO kids toy and so on and on, but I think if LEGO wanted they could come to solution, but sadly solution is not in their interests, since with any solution to my problem it means they will loose revenue over years. Yep thats the sad part about it. :D

If youd check youd see I gave Orc Forge originally to TTT ;) Yes you are right, I do not want big Lothlorien because it has no ''true'' meaning and while I would not mind it after wave 5/6 at this moment there is tons of places/stuff to create that has alot more meaning and has alot more action/play features than Lothlorien. The reason I wrote Lothlorien or better say Gladariel with Frodo and Mirror on an idea of 10/15$ set is because to me thats the only ''important'' scene of the whole Lothlorien material for the story. I would take Lothlorien also, but if it ends up as ''lame'' as Council of Elrond (by lame I mean size) I rather have no Lothlorien than Lothlorien similar to Ewok Village (which would be perfect Lothlorien with little changes and color change) Yep hence I would prefer Minas Tirith to come in 2 pieces. 80/90$ Gate + Grond 140$ Courtyard with White Tree, Hall of Kings and White Tower If that would be the case I could care less for Osgilliath and if on top we would we rewarded with Oliphant that comes with Faramir and Ithilien Ranger, I see no need for the ruins at all. I agree, but lets be honest here, in which movie most of the story reveales around direct impact of Orthanc. The answer is simple. Putting Orthanc to movie 1/3 is only a step better than putting Minas Tirith to movie 2 or 1 bracket because Gandalf goes there to read scripts and because Faramir and company look on it when going to Osgilliath. Balrog I could live with easily, if its done nicely, but we would get ANOTHER Gandalf, and i'm already fed up with Gandalfs and Gimlies. Atleast I found use for Gimli torsos and Helmet, but Gandalfs hat i find none for. There is only so much wizards you can use in MOCs

Ok sorry, i am just 100% sure one of the two is meant to be Orthanc ;)

Shelob Attack is not ROTK (ok it is by movie but thats wrong anyway) Its TTT for me period :) since chronologically it happens in book 4/6 or book 2/3 whatever you prefer which is part of story of The Two Towers. But guess since license is for movie sets we can argue endlessly what is it 2nd or 3rd. Also Tolkien is kinda right, Lurtz is born in FOTR which makes Orc Forge FOTR set not TTT ( even i put it wrong) Orthanc is clearly part of TTT even if you someone says he features in every movie the name The Two Towers means Orthanc and Barad-Dur which can easily translate to the ''UCS'' We shall see what will happen. But I know if wave 3 = last wave and we will not get 3 Gondor oriented sets I will be severely disappointed.
