Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
Alcarin replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think average ANNUAL growth of LEGO sets is around 10% :) I think LEGO investing might go stale with too little profits to be worthwhile except to partially cover our FAN inventory. -
If you consider the smallest set bad thats not my problem its variety, despite minimal. Ofcourse it is, but Treebeared = 30 bricks changing one Ent from Orthanc... Treebeared literally brings nothing because we got an ent already which is a joke to mod for treebeared. If you disagree with that thats ok but thats a rock solid fact. I agreed Balrog is more tricky especially cos of wings, but I can easily pass Balrog myself especially since I am fed with Gandalfs for the rest of my life (in LEGO versions) We will ''never'' see Official Lothlorien like Ewok Village (which would then be display value) and making it a small play set with (about the same lame display value of Uruk-hai Army/Elronds council) tell me what will kids play with it.... - A hardcore climb of fellowship (oh i only get 2/9 max fellowship) to the top of the tree? - flicker missile will snipe them on the way to top? Nothing else happens in a movie from Lothlorien? I would say look on wave 1 and half of wave 2 ;) It has a valuable display/play value of Helm's Deep arguable one of the best designs of nonUCS sets in 2012!

You wrote I see nothing about pieces in that reply. Not to mention: Lets see about that ''great'' job. FOTR sets count: Wave1: 4 sets, Wave2: 2 sets TTT sets count: Wave1: 2 (Shelob is book 2/3!) Wave2: 0 sets ROTK sets count: Wave1: 0 sets Wave2: 2 sets Now we can easily give both Exclusive/UCS sets to wave 2 since thats when both sets get the most ''screen time which makes final count after 2 waves about 6 vs 4 vs 2 and out of the 2 ... 1 set is a Ship (which is fine just odd! from Movie perspective but we all know LEGO likes to do ships) Hardly what I would ever call a GREAT job... Ps. Even both polybags were from movie 1 ;) (Gandalf and Elrond)

Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
Alcarin replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
thing is SOON. ( I astimate by Xmas) underdogs will beat those majority ocnsiders good investment. Like not Helm's Deep but Mines of Moria type of underdog. So the flag sets will no longer do perfectly (cos everyone buys those) but 2nd or 3rd set will do better since everyone skips them ;) -
good work, small improvements could be made (like more green around to make it more ''authentic''
-
If you would read instead of just trying to disagree with me you'd see my smallest set idea is far from Gondor... sigh... Wasn't uruk-hai army (Gondor style) that 30$ price point? I really wish your dream come true :D
-
Except creating Balrog/Treebeard take about 200-400 pieces max and creating Minas Tirith even watered down to biggest LEGO set ever (Taj mahal?) takes like 5000+ pieces. Difference is notable. Treebeared means changing a few pieces on Orthanc Ent nothing else. Blarog is a little more tricky I admit.

Both Balrog and Treebeared are buildable from already existing bricks (purist LEGO) Its not like it would take tons of bricks to build either (200 +/-) easily bricklinkable. I would also like Balrog, but Treebeared is really EASILY MOCable from that Ent with adding/taking 20-40 pieces MAX! Lothlorien set is a waste of material, literally NOTHING important happens there and even less action than Gimli swinging his axe on Council of Elrond. Galadriel + Frodo + Mirror can easily be 10/15$ set and thats about it from even REMOTE importance of Lorien period! If you really want Lorien imo download Ewok Village instruction and bricklink parts in darker colors instead of tan and you will get a better Lorien than you would if LEGO makes it a set anyway. I agree with Witch King + Theoden + Eowyn set but thats Gondor related stuff since its happening on Fields of Pelennor anyway and would be considered under Gondor regardless of figures since location and time of event is 3rd movie and Gondor. Gothmog can easily be squished in Gondor sets (assaults on gate etc.)
-
Ofcourse! Sorry but Treebeared means another Ent that we get in Orthanc .... regardless of name! Mount Doom means a huge pile of slopes OR it will not be big enough to be plausible. And we get more Hobbits! I'm seriously tired of any Hobbit in LEGO, to me they're half a figure and legs are 99% useless on my MOCs also! We need a Gondor wave, with Gondor Soldiers, Ithilien Rangers and Haradrims/Easterlings... If LEGO would end LOTR line without Gondor(3+ Gondor sets) I would be severely disappointed with LEGO.
-
Exactly, just cut all surrounding Buildings EXCEPT hall of Kings (where Denethor sits on throne) and White tower, then also CUT the set at stairs where in Movie Gandalf rides up to arrive at courtyard. Btw: Now thats a MOC worthy of Minas Tirith
-
To be honest, I hope entire wave is centered about Gondor.... we had Rohans (so throw away the silly Theodens Throne!) we had Rohan stuff, we had enemy buildings. I could maybe see being UCS only white tower of Ecthelion and courtyard with white tree and Hall of Kings and then we get Grond + main gate Something like 10/15$ set (whatever) Maybe even Galadriel with Mirror and Frodo ??? :D 30$ set Uruk-hai Army just Gondor style (4 Orcs, 2 Gondor Soldiers (1 with bow the other shield+spear) 50$ set Fell beast and Witch King + Theoden and Eowyn (3 figures) maybe Merry 80(90)$ Osgilliath attack (3 Orcs + Gothmog commander + Faramir + 1 Ithilien Ranger + 1 Gondor Soldier) OR for 80(90$) set we might get Grond + Gate of Minas Tirith (Gothmog + 2 Orcs + Troll? + 1 Gondor Soldier + Pippin and Gandalf ??? ) 200$ Courtyard of Minas Tirith with White Tower (about 3/4 size of Orthanc but with no interior except Palantir) Hall of Kings. 2 Gondor Tower Guards + Denethor + Gandalf the White(on horse) + pippin in Gondor attire I would personally take Mumakil over Osgilliath set anyday, but somehow i suspect we will not see Easterlings/Haradrims AT ALL.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Alcarin replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Its been said many times SEPTEMBER 2013 is the release date of series 11 So we can expect Images around July Id say... Series 11 by names look uninteresting to me completely, but thats mainly since I am Castle/Medieval MOCer/collector -
Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
Alcarin replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think overall investing in LEGO will become worse and worse due to increasing peopel doing it. So I would advice you only do hobby investing like me. That means you buy a couple sets (500-1000$ budget) each year put them away and sell once they double in value. Its how I am doing with decent success, but takes time and patience. And problem with buying what you like is you want to open it which means essentially you have to buy DOUBLE of each set to ease your minds ;) -
Well I can only reply for myself but for Aragorn (cape and sword) and Gandalf (cape and staff) I would be willing to pay around 8€ (4€ per figure with accessories which is about a fair price) + shipping. I would guess though all figures + horse and Eagle with accessories would be worth around 35€ MAX which is what about 31 pounds roughly ? Eagle and Mouth of Sauron with horse are the 2 most worthy stuff from the lot though with generic soldiers in the long run

With 2nd wave I am worried we might get the end of LOTR after next.... this is all just half - assed work there.... 79005 The Wizard Battle Ok we get 2 important figures (atleast Gandalf with no hat but hair) except for that and Saurons eye piece nothing important or wanted... 79006 The Council of Elrond Great pieces, minor annoyance = too many plates for my taste, but price point of 40€ makes it too costly in European Union... 79007 Battle at the Black Gate This set screams: ''Buy 2 SUCKER!'' not to even mention the lame Orcs and uruk-hai helmet on one of them... 79008 Pirate Ship Ambush While the ship itself looks cool, we get a ship in a flagship set of the wave... of a movie and trilogy where ships were seen around 10 min MAX and half of those were in extended the other 3.5min were at the end? Not to even start comparing lame NOT EVEN 800 piece count vs nearly 1400 piece count of Helm's Deep. Now Sure Tower of Orthanc fixes some of those sour tastes after seeing detailed pictures, but as a huge LOTR fan I am disappointed in this year sets. Atleast wave 1 sets had Helm's Deep and uruk-hai Army to buy multiples and not feel ENTIRELY ripped off due to piece count and figures, but this year except for some parts (orange leaves especially) in Elronds council there is no set I would rate as ''worthy of repurchase''

I would hate to start a new thread for similar thing, but I would be willing to Buy Aragorn (+cape and sword) and Gandalf (+cape and staff) aswell if someone wants to sell it and get rid of (due to 2 gates or more) I am EU preferably ;)

of all other amazing ground stuff in battles presentend like Olifonts, easterlings, harradrim, Ithilien rangers, Gondor soldiers, White tower guards, even Balrog, you would want a set ''wasted'' on a ship that played no importance to story except closing it down. 2 ships in 3 waves for a movie where nothing happens with ships apart from 3 minutes of a trilogy. I mean believe me I would LOVE that ship to be done BUT not if we only get 3 waves... then I would prefer: Olifont set (with easterlings and haradrims) Ithilien rangers set Gondor soldiers set (minas tirith) Witch King set (with Eowyn) Besides what playfeatures would that ship get :P bilbo getting sick ? :D
