Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest
xboxtravis7992 replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Oh contest thread. Should we post our MOCs there when we make them, or can we post them in separate topics? My MOC is basically finished and I am waiting for the contest to open to post it on Rebrick first, then share it to here and MOCpages. -
Yes the SD70ACe is a later version of the SD70M. EMD has kept the SD70 designation in use for a long time now haven't they?

We already have a 2016 speculation thread, with rumors the next Creator Expert will drop this Fall, a Winter Train. If we get a Creator Train we will likely not get any trains next year. With no info yet on actual 2017 sets I see no point in this thread.

Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest

Is it time to start a 2017 thread, or are we waiting for an set reveal to start it? It definitely seems that the MoUP if released will be in 2017. -

Flower Dangers... oh heck no! Lego already did that in 2002, they called it Galidor!

The USS Discovery looks like it is based on an unused Ralph McQuarrie (of Star Wars design fame) design for the refit Enterprise. Good tribute to him, but it doesn't change the fact it's a strange design...

In addition to the new trailer for Doctor Strange, Marvel/Disney has announced the first American theme park ride based on the MCU for Disney's California Adventure, a ride based on the Guardians of the Galaxy escaping from The Collector.(I think Hong Kong Disneyland might have an Iron Man ride) Problem is... it's not a new ride system. They are removing and redecorating one of the Park's earliest rides from 2003 known as "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror" which happens to be be one of my favorite rides in the park. While I am upset about it, some people are really pissed, my sister especially since Tower of Terror is her favorite ride in that park. So I don't know, as cool as it is that Disney is finally making a theme park ride for the MCU I am really turned off by how it comes at the removal of a great ride. If it was a temporary re-skin I wouldn't mind at all, but Disney is touting this to be a very permeant change... Here is the announcement video:

Yes. I am hoping after New-Trek is done exploring the TOS era, we will get a New-Trek take on TNG. Inception style Q shenanigans with Borg... I want to see it!

Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors
xboxtravis7992 replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
So know we know: The MoUP is a real piece, possibly still in its prototype stage. Lego has actually heard the AFoL clamor for an "Art of Bionicle" book, and now appears to have made one and will be giving a limited edition signed copy to a fan. There is a mysterious printed shield with a MoUP decal used on the winged Makuta. Makuta G2 is possibly a shapeshifter like the G1 version. Let the Bionicle 2017 rumors begin!! (Please don't be a European exclusive like Chima was...) -
The best of the worst Lego Ideas
xboxtravis7992 replied to anothergol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think it worth noting Lego changed the name of the Research Institute from the original project title. While I think Lego wants to promote STEM, and women participating in those degrees; they appear to be avoiding any terminology that might start a social-political debate. And seeing how the new Ideas rules make it blatant that "New Ideas can't be a continuation of previous Ideas products" I doubt Lego would ever again authorize a Research Institute like set. -
I like that you made the model more true to a real E2 Class engine. The Reverand Awdry would approve of that! The Railway Series used a lot of cool prototypes. I once based an early MoC on the narrow gauge Edward Thomas/Peter Sam. One of the few MOCs from my childhood I have kept together!

Lego has avoided WWII era stuff on purpose; only allowing a brief glimpse via the Indiana Jones line. With Lego being a European based company I feel WWII is a bit "close to home " and they don't want to portray it in a light-hearted manner. But if one orders custom parts one can have the right pieces for a Lego WWII figures. Brick Arms and Brick Forge make customer guns and helmets that match WWII era equipment. The shirt used by Frodo Baggins in one of the LoTR sets also oddly enough matches typical WWII attire... Kahki and Olive Green legs are now common in official Lego sets to. Good luck in your search!

Dark Troopers, Outrider, THRAWN?!?! Gosh I need to start watching this show... Disney might have scrapped the old canon, but they are retaining almost all the best elements!

What was the last movie you watched?
xboxtravis7992 replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
My young cousin's came to visit; so we decided to take them to our local Drive In Theaters double feature. The first film was "Secret Life of Pets" it wasn't a classic... but it was cute and non-offesnsive. Animation was good (not surprising though), and the film was fun and traveled briskly through its run time. The second film was Angry Birds. It's pretty embarrassing that Lego wasted time on sets for this film. The story was basically the first 60 seconds of the video game, extended over a feature length film. It was awful. 70% of the film was without conflict, only following obnoxious characters I couldn't care about. My mom while watching the film broke down in laughter because the plot was so nonsense she said "I feel like I'm high! This is nonsense..." The adult humor in Angry Birds was far to overt, without Disney's genius subtlety, and far more overt than either Warner Brother's Looney Tunes and Animaniacs. Oddly enough, one of my younger cousins was in love with Angry Birds, and even while my mom and I were criticiszing it, this cousin yelled from the back of our truck bed how great the film was. He stayed awake all until the end of the film, at 1:00 am! So my list of worst films I have ever seen now includes: The Master of Disguise, Angry Birds, Troll 2, and Gentleman's Broncos (which ironically was filmed at the same Drive In Theater I saw Angry Birds at :P ) -
Not sure how I feel about a project like this. The ridiculousness of the "Bring Back Bionicle" movement is still fresh in my mind (but Bionicle did come back though...). However I also understand the appeal of Agents and spy sets as a Lego theme. The recent run of Ultra Agents and the upcoming Mission Impossible Dimensions Pack gives me hope Lego knows that. But also what Peppermint_M said; the originals where the Alpha Team! :) Ogel was a classic Lego villain to (try to spell his name backwards...)

NMRA National Train Show, July 6-10, 2016
xboxtravis7992 replied to zephyr1934's topic in LEGO Train Tech
"Yes, yes; everything is happening as I have foreseen!" No just kidding; kind off. I am really excited at the prospect of an NMRA convention in Utah near my home. I was already excited to get to see the normal scale model railroading stuff; and the clinic's and what not. But if there is a huge Lego attendance there I will be thrilled. It would be great to see Lego fans win layout awards like they did this year. Not to mention I think the South Town Center where the convention will be held isn't to far from the Lego Store either... -
