That is utterly gruesome! As well as the good advice above, I would add, watch out for reflections in your photographs (easier said than done!), and be aware that the difference between new and old light grey is a lot more obvious on camera than in the brick. I like the columns and the gold on the doors, and it's a great story.

I love the colours, and that sail is awesome! The ship is a little too straight-sided for me, I would be tempted to add a row of inverse slopes to bring in the waistline. Lovely details though with the arches, stern window, and waves at the back.

This is a brave choice for a build. Some of the details really stand out, the beautiful rockwork, the interior, and the scene at the top in particular. Blue and tan is a great combination and it very common across the Arab world, and it is actually my next project for Sultan's Gate, in a lighter shade. My friend is going to the most beautiful blue and tan city in Iran next week, I forgot the name but it is on the edge of the desert and it looks spectacular. I think your build would go better if you have blue where the tan is and vice versa, and it seems limited by the straightforward selection of blue parts used. Nice build, and a great Kaliphlin scene!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
robuko replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sorry to hear your sad news NM. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Update from Kaliphlin: the Drow have invaded Avalonia, Kaliphlin has had to build up a Navy in response to provocation from Mitgardia, Sultan's Gate is up and running, there was an oil delivery challenge to Mitgardia and now bandages delivery to Avalonia. We have been joined by some great new members. Welcome back! -

Teeny Weeny races across the Wither Woods into Avalonia on a mercy mission. He must deliver the bandages to Benoic so that Lord de Gothia can heal the sick. Although the PGTC does not as a rule give things away for free, it is poor business practice to allow customers to perish. The giant Kaliphlin racing snail can travel swiftly and silently across these paths, although today it is carrying a heavy load. This is my entry for the Cotton for Avalonia mini-challenge. The inspiration is from Never-ending story (and we have been watching Turbo a little bit too!)

Loving this so much. Absolute genius. The dome is spectacular and all the little details you have added are gorgeous. Looks like a great party!

Oh my goodness Cara. This is fantastic. I love the decorations, and the technical details are very impressive. I can't quite work out how you have achieved the double skinned diagonals. Great work!

Book II Challenge II - Avalonian Civil War! - RESULTS POSTED

I'm confused. Here is my summary of what I think are the key plot points: A lot of Avalonia is suddenly occupied by the Drow, in a bunch of areas. (Are these areas connected by tunnels? unlikely, but it is not clear how the Drow got there) Lord Varis (rogueang) was in charge of Avalonia. He has taken a force of elves and vanished, he says into the Drow tunnels to fight the Drow. He left Avalonia under de Gothia (mainland) and Simon (West and islands), giving them both instructions not to attack the Drow unless forced to as it would mean disaster for his mission (not clear why). There has been sighting of mysterious ships near Cornovaria and some sort of mass death in Cornovaria (a small island in the middle). Not clear if this is plague or murder. Simon has decided to stand up and fight the Drow, disobeying Varis' orders. de Gothia is reluctant to attack as he fears another enemy (not clear if this means the mysterious ships or the plague). The elven clans under rogueang have temporarily united. They seek greater power in Avalonia and are dealing with the Drow but they are not betraying Avalonia. They have successfully delayed any Drow attack on Avalonian settlements, and there is a chance of Elven reinforcements. I think we have to assume that Lord Varis is not betraying Avalonia. In that case, we want his mission to be successful and so I am with de Gothia, who has followed his orders. -

Hmm, by teleport?? I was going to enter my frustrating ship for the oil delivery but it went to the GNAR instead. The Avalonia challenge looks really interesting! I am siding with de Gothia and that way I can make a story of this mini challenge and my Avalonia build. Gideon, we need you here! Kayne too! -

Both our leaders have worthy efforts. The PGTC would prefer to aid our old friend De Gothia in his relief work, but we are happy to help Lord Simon if required. Rogue, this is a really good challenge. The presentation is excellent, the preludes have been very exciting, and the story is superb. I like that it's not a fighting challenge, and I expect some very interesting builds. My gut tells me there is no plague..... -
Thanks Gunman. Lots of boxes within boxes in this one Thanks Infernum. There is a whole backstory that the genie is Bartimaeus who was seen earlier in my Nocturnus embassy build, and the courier has some urgent message from him...but I just left it out this time to focus on the build. Thanks LV, I'm glad you like it! Thanks very much qiadris, this really is an extension of my King's College build, it's all about the shapes. Thanks Scaevola. There are 3 window techniques here, and really the point of the build is to show them off - the arrow slits are pretty simple Travis bricks and 2x1 tiles, the little grilles are broken down below. The square windows are rather complex, the basic idea is 2x1 tiles held in by jumper studs, with a row of arched windows behind to hold the window grilles. It becomes rather complicated to get all the tiles to hold each other. I know I have used STAMPs here but I think the sticker colours deserve it. I really like the Pharaoh's Quest stickers, I wish I could use them more. Thanks Carson, I'm happy that you like it. Thanks Ska, this was all about fitting into the build - hence the unusually restricted palette and the crumbly edges. Thanks Gideon. I was trying to copy your style here with the limited colours and brickwork, I'm glad you like it. Thanks Mike! Thanks HammerBro, the mish-mash is supposed to convey at least 3 levels of rebuilding from an ancient temple, to a dwelling, that is then renovated rather recently - this is what I has trying to do to fit the Sultan's Gate community style. Thanks De Gothia, I'm glad you appreciate it. The grilles are basically decorative, but you are right to think they might be airholes, this is quite a big feature in Iranian architecture to get natural cooling. The build is below - nb the row of bricks above the grille has to be sideways as the tile and plate combination is 4 1/4 plates high. Thanks kabel. It's just the one house, from 4 different angles. It's been a while since I built in tan and tan, but it's quite a nice colour scheme!

Captain America: the Winter Soldier. Pretty good. I liked the basic premise about totalitarian regimes, and all the leads were good in their roles. I felt I was forced to watch it by agents of shield, which was annoying. There was a lot more time before spoilers regarding Thor 2.

2000AD. Nemesis the warlock, Ace Trucking, the Mek-nificent 7, Harlem heroes, DR and Quincy, Halo Jones.... Too many awesome characters.

Go for it Mike. Good news - Masa's new armour comes on a keychain (scolder) -
That is simply a brilliant idea for a mash up. Fantastic builds. Why is Snow White in a bubble? I find that creepy.

1x2 jumper plate. Gold ones because there is no gold 1x2 plate, tan ones for architectural details. After that 1x2 tiles then 1x2 plates. Wish I had many more: Travis bricks and 1xn plates, I always run out half way through any MOC and have to rebuild.

We risk straying into the debate about girls play differently which is why they have a different power structure in the girl themes …regardless, Dora the Explorer is a named theme leader, why does she not qualify?
