  1. Any part is acceptable, it just depends how you use them! If you can do a SNOT or upside down honeycomb ceiling I would certainly consider it. Studs up in a dome, nope.
  2. I normally use the magic extractor tool on photo shop but it is not good with thin objects as it fades edges too much. An alternative is to paint the background in a contrast color and then remove it, (which gives me overly sharp edges, but is usually good enough for a quick job). The best way for me to get a good look is to create a number of layers, one desaturated and one with high thresholds, combine these to make a layer mask, clean it up, and apply to the original image, merge these layers once you have a good mask, and then put in a background under it. This is what I have been doing this year. It is pretty fiddly but it's the best way I have found to get good edges.
  3. Nice build and very interesting story. I am looking forward to seeing how this develops.
  4. No strong view. My tendency would be to allow nonexistent part/colour from the outset for digital entries, and judge them separately. They are already dealing with different physics, lighting etc. to the brick built entries, so I have no problem extending this to colour. In this case, I don't think krisandkris was trying to break any rules, and would have been happy to rebuild it, and my view is that the entry should be allowed (even though it's technically an illegal entry). But this is not a strong view, and if there are other LDD contestants who feel disadvantaged by parts/colours rules, I would certainly listen to them. Thanks Bob for hosting the contest, it's been great fun and there are lots of superb entries, and it's moved a number of us out of our comfort zones!
  5. The Duke has been on a mission in deepest darkest...well, we can't say where, but it was pretty hazardous, it took a very long time and he totally missed the Mount Up deadline. Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus. He did bring back some intriguing contraband, a new ride for those long distance journeys. You might be able to guess where he picked this up. Actually, this is not really a Historica build. It is my entry for the Dress my Exo-Suit challenge. I think it fits pretty well for the Historica storyline though, and it's a bit different to the other brick-built animals around here. This is a totally new style of building for me, and I was very happy with the outcome, so I thought I would share it with you guys. Obviously, it's built on top of the Exo Suit (rear legs, wings), and it is a mash up of system, technic and CCBS. I found it extremely refreshing to build with parts that are designed to only allow one point of connection, rather than finding out too late that most of my parts are only connected by one stud!
  6. Thanks Bob, I did already
  7. I think this wall texturing works better as it looks more solid. The trefoil bushes are a nice technique, how did you do that? The storyline is provocatively violent. Are we supposed to consider this an insurrection, or we simply have new trading counterparts? We are sorry to lose Sir Horatius. Given the title, I would advocate a few splashes of dark or bright red 1x1s to bloody it up.
  8. Yes, I agree. That means the QC is pretty bad, because it supposed to ensure consistency
  9. I would like to post my entry in the history forum as well, because it is a history themed entry. I want to check first though that this is within the rules?
  10. Sorry to disappoint you but no, it's pretty bad. I even had the wrong figure parts in my ultra man zero sealed bag (the guy on the right and of course the one I actually wanted). The mould quality is poor although the printing is reasonably good.
  11. Nice scene and good snot floor. If you orient the studs the other way on the floor and tile off the front and the top, it would raise the build a notch. I feel your pain on lighting, I can never get it right, looking forward to seeing what you can do with a light box!
  12. Wow, you have a fantastic Lego room! What a great overall build, you have the whole country there!
  13. The lime tiles look nice and swampy. I agree with Gunman that you could think more about the presentation. I find the most effective pictures are either vignettes where the full frame is showing only Lego, like Behemoth's blacksmith, or overview of the whole Moc contained in one shot.
  14. Absolutely amazing. Your models are some of the best I've ever seen.
  15. Welcome to GoH kbcakir! Great story. We may occasionally require the services of Snow White, and we always pay well
  16. Absolutely amazing. The colour use just blows my mind, it's like a Seurat painting. I literally have no idea how you can hold this many colours and shapes and textures in your mind when building. Any square centimetre is a mess and of colour and shape but the whole thing is a beautiful and consistent totality. It's a form of genius I think. Please do some Kaliphlin building!
  17. Another nice classic build, it reminds me of the Daniel Liebeskind blacksmith. The shutters are a nice touch. Your photo editing is a bit distracting in the first shot. If you are not happy with the image, I would advise you to take another photo instead of cropping out bits like that.
  18. Seriously impressive landscaping! Nice figure use too.
  19. Nice to see a classic old school build, very nicely done. Your flood is seriously dusty though, and I am so intrigued by the Bermuda triangle in the second photo!
  20. The mountain build and the flag are great. I think the moc would benefit from an intermediate horizon between Sir Winzer and the mountains to enhance the FP effect.
  21. Excellent photography makes this vig pop. Nice introduction.
  22. Absolutely outstanding, again! I'm so glad you joined GoH. The colour choices and parts usage are sensational.
  23. Beautiful use of colour and shape SarahJoy. The sand green cheese is my favourite touch, it is remarkably effective at evoking a desert. It's been a long time since I saw a GoH moc with no mini figures, a brave call and I think it really paid off in making the viewer interact with the scene and contemplate the garden, rather than being a passive viewer of someone else's actions. Love the way you are building up Ruadh. UoP +1 all claims.
  24. Yes, definitely. I'm glad I gave Smaug a sturdy tail to help him stand!
  25. Thanks Backgild. I really hope that new Toxikita Agents set will bring us orange armour, then we can have a new recruit. I had not thought about Man E Faces, but the helmet and armour does work for him. Thanks Sir Brickalot! I didn't know but now I really want to enter. Hmm, not sure what vehicle these guys should have.....
