LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
robuko replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I am not that enthusiastic about this series to be honest, I feel I will mostly be collecting them just to keep a complete collection. I really wish the space miner had an orange recolour of that armour, I would love to build multi colour armies.- 1,109 replies

What themes do LEGO "Old Timers" Collect?
robuko replied to Legogal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is such a great thread! Love the wisdom in here. I'll join you guys in another 10 or 15 years -
Sounds like the star wars deal, and they still have BPs for that line, no? I really can't recall ever seeing a Hobbit action figure to complete with!

This wave sounds very promising with more excellent mini figs on the way. I'm not thrilled about yet another helicopter though, I would prefer a land side base.

I wish there was a Spotify play list of this thread. I am mostly listening to current pop/ R&B. Haven't heard much new stuff I liked between 2003 and 2011 but it's getting better again

In the Chima 2015 wave there are 4 "tribe" packs at battle pack price points, which is great news of you just want the figs. It would be great to have these for hobbit/LoTR too as so many people want to build big armies. I wonder why not yet....

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Well, 200 would be enough for a vignette or if your gatehouse is a 2 storey wall without much decoration. A storey is 6 bricks so for instance a plain 3 storey 8x8 tower would use 14 bricks per level x 6x 3= 252 bricks. 2 of these would be 504 and a 3 storey 10 wide wall in the middle would be 5x6x3= 90 bricks for a 600 total on a medium size gate house with no detail. Of course you will use arches and windows and decorative elements and so on too. Generally, the better a build looks, the more small parts it uses to achieve the detail. This is why we are all encouraging you to rebalance your budget from figs and accessories toward bricks. But start with what you feel comfortable with and work up from vigs. Edit I was going to recommend something similar to Lord Dan but I think the castle sets won't give you a good mix of bricks and Helm's Deep which is a perfect starter pack has gone end of line. The best set to start today is probably the Dol Guldur battle, you can sell the figs you don't want and the bricks will end up very cheap. It's dark grey though. Actually, the DG battle and Ambush will cost you $70 together on Amazon and you get 4 orcs that are close enough to what you are looking for, some other valuable figs to sell, good accessories, and a bunch of decent bricks. I think that's a good place to start, then brick link a bunch of the masonry bricks and some arches and windows. Or, as you are in the USA, visit your nearest Lego Store and load up at the pick a brick wall. People are usually putting around 400-700 parts in the large cups ($20?) so the savings from a visit there will probably pay for the gas. Check what parts are in stock first on http://www.brickbuildr.com/view/pab/ -
Absolutely breathtaking. Sublime!

200 sounds like a lot, but if you put a 1 high border around a 32x32 it uses 60, and then 140 would just be enough for a 2 storey wall across one side or a one story wall on 2 sides. Just want to calibrate your expectations. It would be cool to run a 200 brick mini challenge! -
Yeah, very sad that space gets left out for 15. I hope that means we get something in 16. I still want the Galaxy Patrol theme!

From your link to the Baghdad battery, which I already checked: In March 2012, Professor Elizabeth Stone, of Stony Brook University, an expert on Iraqi archaeology, returning from the first archaeological expedition in Iraq after 20 years, stated that she does not know a single archaeologist who believed that these were batteries. Better to use magic. But if it is too powerful, it will cause problems. -
The Decool Martian Manhunter and the SY Miss Martian seem to have the same cloak material supplier. Good quality on both of these. Decool Taskmaster is pretty good too. Two faces but they seem very similar.

I am not aware of any evidence of ancient or medieval batteries. I assume that you actually do want advice when you ask for it? -

@Behmoth The basic rule in GoH is only medieval and ancient technology is allowed. And magick. So that's a no for capacitors/batteries to store electricity, and to genetic engineering. The rest of it is fine but you will have to restrict the technology levels. -
Love all the blues Gedren, and the bird heads and Chima shields are very characterful. It is famously tough to photograph white Lego, and I would advise using a different color for your backdrop next time. I really like your roof solution, it's very creative.

I am really impressed with the horse and cart, so much nice usage! Looks like it might get a bit drafty in those big windows

Eurobricks structure, moderating, member involvement and more
robuko replied to SMC's topic in Forum Information and Help
On the specific issue of merging and closing threads, I think on balance the mods do a really good job. There are some threads that might get closed a bit prematurely, but the skill that goes in to merging threads and directing conversations is very impressive. -
The really, really, really interesting thing here is the tribe sets, which I presume are battle packs. Instant buy for the sabre tooth and ice bear sets. Now can we please have them for the Hobbit, agents and super heroes?
-
While I like the concept behind this line, I have not picked up any of the sets yet as I find them rather over priced and uninspiring. It has great potential though, and I am really looking forward to the Jasmine and Frozen sets. It's a dead cert that here will be physical violence in stores to get hold of the Frozen set, so order it online!

Eurobricks structure, moderating, member involvement and more
robuko replied to SMC's topic in Forum Information and Help
I am generally extremely happy with the way EB is run and moderated. It is a very difficult job and I think most of the mods strike an excellent balance. I am most active in the GoH subforum and I have nothing but the highest praise for the staff activity there. They really do an excellent job. I do visit many of the other sub forums and I can understand SMC's reluctance to offer feed back, as I have occasionally seen some examples where certain moderators have been quite harsh and even disrespectful to some members in my view, and quite hostile to feed back. Equally, it is apparent that we do have many underage members and not everyone has the maturity to make meaningful posts, or to write in proper English - by this I mean usually the native English speakers who are forgetting that many of us do not have English as a first language. In cases where members have very serious issues with mods and vice versa it might be helpful to have a type of independent resolution arbitration from another staff member. Overall I think the site is extremely well run and as always I would like to say a big thank you to the staff for making it all possible. -
Yeah, it's funny that Decool has taken Alexandre Bourdon's detachable head bigfig model and put it to good use with that Venom, but Lego hasn't... Has anyone got the Lele Transformers set?

Oh yes, the windscreen looks great now! I can't really tell from the photo angle, does the wing line still look good where it meets the windscreen? I feel a touch of Ferrari 308 or even 246 in the last shot. This is a really wonderful model of an extremely difficult subject. Love it -
