You mean the motor hangs out of the back of the truck? -

Thanks for the reply Paul! Funny this thread is so old and this was your first response to it. You are a very humble builder indeed. I can also see your point about some people claiming that they improved another builder's design that was already in place for them to experiment with. I have seen quite a few comments like that over at the MOC pages. People claiming that they made someone's model look better, when in fact it is quite the opposite. Are you planning on posting up more instruction steps for your Vampire GT chassis? I have the rear section completed, but I now see that the pics have been deleted, did you change something or are you in the process of working on more? This is one model that I am really looking forward to completing. Thanks for the great work and inspiration! Also looking forward to seeing this Porsche. -

This is the same guy who claimed this model was his own for quite some time and then due to numerous people calling him out on his claims, he finally admitted that he was using Paul's design as a basis, but most of the work was his own. It looked to me like he just used whatever pieces were available to him. Nowhere near as good as the original. After watching the video it is very apparent that most of the chassis build came from Paul's instructions as well. I don't understand how people can take someone's design, build it the best they can with whatever parts they have and then say that it has been changed enough to call it their own. HERE is a link to the original thread about this Lamborghini Copy. -
David, I completely understand what you are saying, but what I am saying that it is just unfair to people if they are trying to abide by the rules. Say next year the theme is Lamborghini or exotic I don't think it would be too fair if crowkillers entered his Murcielago. Like I said, I am happy that Sheepo won and I think his model was the best out of the entries.

Actually Brickend you bring up a very good point that has been talked about in the past and also why I feel these contests are somewhat unfair as it seems most people don't exactly follow the rules. This Porsche model is quite fantastic, but if the rules did state that the models were only supposed to be built in a certain time frame and people are throwing in models that they either completed far before the monthly contest even started or spent over a year building them and then they found it was just a convenient time for them to add them into the contest, is that really fair for the other contestants that did follow the rules? So while it is great for Sheepo that he won the prize, can you really feel good about it knowing the fact that you won with having a large advantage that was just overlooked?

Looks like Paul is working on and posting up instructions for this new model. INSTRUCTIONS I am assuming this is the rear section of the suspension. -
Metal axles for lego
Meatman replied to habit's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
But aren't high torque gears in those power tools and RC cars made out of plastic nylon which is stronger and more flexible? I am having a hard time seeing the hard plastic Lego gears holding up with a metal axle under medium torque. -

OMG is that car nice to look at. Paul continues to amaze. -

What would be the advantage of metal axles if the gears remain plastic? Something is going to give somewhere right? -

Sheepo's models are fantastic, he is truly in a class all his own. Jurgen, I think your models are quite innovative and beautifully constructed as well. -
torsion ideas?
Meatman replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just as a test I mounted one end of a 8 length axle to a 2x4 L shaped liftarm and the other end to another 2x4 L shaped liftarm and placed a minimal amount of torque on the axle stressing it maybe to the 25 degree mark and set it down on a flat table to check and it most certainly twisted the axle a bit from it's original form. -
torsion ideas?
Meatman replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The axles would have to get deformed and twisted over time. A torsion bar isn't just a regular bar, it is more like a coil spring that has been twisted to be straightened out, that is why it can withstand the twisting motion without bending or breaking. -
First MOC: Off-road vehicle

Nice MOC! Better than I could do. -
Then why didn't you just build the components from the pictures then? Why spend $100+ if it was so easy to do? If your 12 speed is so advanced and wonderful, then why not sell off your own design rather than one from someone else. How would you profit from making a video of how to build it? From selling the video? What you seem to be failing to realize is that there is more to this than just changing the shifting plate around to look different. I have built this gearbox and not only is the shifting plate a unique way to line up the shifter at the needed 1/2 a stud spot, but it also works with the parts that hold the axles and gears into place in the needed 1/2 stud area. It's the entire design that is being copied my friend, not just the shifting plate as you are mentioning. Yeah the gearing setup is pretty old school by today's standards, but how he implemented that old school with studless building was very well done. This section of his design is equally as important as the shifter plate.
