  1. There was a submarine. LOL. posted at the same time.
  2. I am confused with this statement. There are tons of parts that don't work and fit with each other, especially in the Technic Theme. What I mean is that most Technic parts don't fit with Traditional parts.
  3. So then how many functions should a set have for it in your mind to be considered technic? I consider bionicle and mindstorms to be sort of spinoffs that are heavily technic based. it's hard to not consider a car or truck that is made out of technic parts to not be technic even if it just steers and pistons move. I mean those are 2 functions right?
  4. Interesting. I have never seen that before. Is it some sort of promo set? I suppose that shows right there that in Lego's eyes that Technic isn't always about functions.
  5. What about the 8041 Technic Race Truck? When you compare the 8653 Ferrari Enzo to it, it has just as many features at the Race Truck plus door mechanisms. And what about the 1:8 scale 8674 Ferrari F1 Racer? Is that not Technic? The 8458 Silver Champion was a Technic set The 8461 Williams F1 was a Racers set even though they were almost 100% identical as far as build goes. I wouldn't consider the fact that just because a set says Racers that it should count out a set that is 100% Technic. After all, there were actually many themes involved in the Racers line including minifig scale sets.
  6. It is quite amazing how we all say that we love Technic but so many different people have different opinions of what Technic actually is. Some people don't consider a model Technic even if it is built completely of Technic but has little functions, some people don't consider a complete moving engine to be Technic. I think of anything that is made mostly from Technic parts to be Technic since it is much more difficult and challenging to build a good looking model primarily from Technic parts even if it only steers or an engine moves with the wheels. For example, the guy that built those amazing Star Wars ships comletely from Technic parts. Even though they don't do anything, they are still Technic Star Wars Ships right? Or are they Star Wars ships made from Technic?
  7. @ Blakbird & KEvron Very well put! I love the Technic theme of models, but I am not very good at building anything myself. I admit Technic intimidates me. I feel a little out of place on this forum with so many great builders because I don't build any MOCs of my own, but I do support Technic 100% I too think that Technic is a fantastic learning tool for children and adults as well.
  8. Aren't there all types of Legal and License issues involved with a themed model like that BTTF car?
  9. So there have only ever been 2 sets from this cuusoo thing that have ever become a reality? And they are both from Japan? I don't want to seem naive, but does anyone really think that TLC would ever do a large theme set like this Western town? I think the whole town is incredible and I would buy it, but I have my doubts about it actually happening even if it got enough votes.
  10. How is the quality of the colored chrome? It looks good on the monitor, but how is it overall? scratch? Peel? Flake? I know it is expensive and I wouldn't want to pay for something without knowing about the overall quality.
  11. Allanp, I most certainly do agree about new gearboxes, but do you think this will also require new parts to be designed? I also don't know how much more stress that the plastic gears can take before failing.
  12. I actually did contact him about them. He gave me the link where you guys get them done. Are they chromed on the inside as well or just the outside? Like if I wanted to get them for the 8070, is there chrome on the flipside? I was going to get some from chrome bricks, but they are only chromed on one side. I also see that you have your front panels crossed differently.
  13. allanp, by your definition what does a model need to be in order to be considered "Technic" Sheepo's stuff is brilliant and thank God for his amazing ideas, but Lego models are not built in his style of building.
  14. I think gearboxes have their limitations though as far as what they can do performance wise. I think something like a 7 speed sequential gearbox would be highly advanced and really cool, but would you really be able to use it properly in a Lego model? And would it even be practical? Those are 2 issues when it comes to the types of sets that Lego releases. They have to be almost foolproof. Yeah, the gearbox in the 8070 doesn't actually change gears or anything, but it is vastly superior mechanically to that in the 8880 and offered something new that had never been done before in a Lego Supercar.
  15. I think the 8880 was a cool set for it's time, but by the standards in this day and age in Technic, it doesn't seem so advanced. And to say that Lego isn't building sets like that anymore is absurd. I also think that the sets of today take much longer to develop that they did some 20 years ago due to the advanced building that is involved as there is no more stacking blocks on top of blocks or adding a plate or 2 to achieve you goal.
  16. But almost all large technic sets have a type of "gearbox" even the 8070 did, it just didn't actually change the gear ratios. Some of these gearboxes like in the excavator are far more advanced than anything that ever existed, including the 8880. You mean a Ferrari Racer set that is comprised 100% of Technic Parts?
  17. It is hard to look at the 8880 and think of it as a Car as it looks more like a tank. It was a fun build and had many interesting features, but I prefer something that is more pleasant on the eyes with less features. I like to think of a nice clean build as a feature.
  18. Blakbird, how does one go about joining the Red Wheel Club?
  19. I hope you are joking. Lego has advanced far beyond where they were 20 years ago as far as Technic goes.
  20. Oh, ok. So multiple drving rings must be engaged then. I was hoping that it was slightly more advanced than that.
  21. Igor, i too am interested in how you managed to cram all of those speeds into such a small model. Please tell more!
  22. Great Looking Car! Many Congrats to you! @Paul Boratko You have to be one of the most modest guys on this forum.
