Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the reply DarkDragon! I just completed a bricklinked Cafe Corner myself and it is very rewarding!! I substituted the white panels as you suggested in the previous post and have currently got red windows in the top floor (as i had them already) rather than the expensive white ones... I'd quite like to have a second carriage so maybe i will bricklink one carriage and find a second hand set somehow :D thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated! -
Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for all the advice guys, very helpful. I just finished building the Cafe Corner via bricklink and gained some extremely helpful experience from doing that. And i agree with Dom and Greg, it is fun to collect all the bricks and feels like it's a little more special when it all comes together. I'm not that flush for cash atm so spreading the cost out would be helpful too, altho i have other projects which would probably take precedence over this one atm, i can always be on the look out for EN bricks while i'm sourcing the other projects... I was trying to figure out which bricks were going to be expensive ( i think i mentioned in a previous post) and wondered about those windows.... but wow! Didn't expect them to be that much!! I was thinking as well, if i went ahead and bricklinked EN, i would be able to add an extra carriage for aesthetics a lot easier than if i bought a set and then added the carriage, same with power functions (i have the Passenger train and love that with the power functions, so would probs want to have the same with EN).... I suppose i have to put individual brick prices out of my head to a degree and work out if the average brick price would be fair or not.... Thanks so much for all the advice, i'll have a bit more of a think before i decide :D -
Building the Emerald Night via Bricklink?
timmyc1983 replied to timmyc1983's topic in LEGO Train Tech
hmmm thanks for the reply! My limited bricklink experience tells me that being in Australia postage is an absolute killer so it's probably just best to find a second hand set somehow... that is until their price goes up.... More LEGO to spend my money on -
As an AFOL just recently coming out of my dark ages, i missed out on a lot of sets i would have probably not thought twice about buying (as i did with the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade a few weeks ago), the Emerald Night obviously being one of these sets... So, I look on bricklink and eBay and all the sets are very expensive. So i wonder whether the price warrants buying the bits on bricklink to make the train or whether by the time i pay for postage as well as the bricks, i'll end up spending more, not to mention the stickers too. I am a collector for purposes of building an awesome city, as opposed to collecting the sets with a perfect box and instructions, i'm more interested in the finished train and how it will look in my city :D So my questions, has anyone built the EN via bricklink? What are the bricks which are difficult to come by? (I checked bricklink for the dark green slopes with gold decorations and they are average .30c per piece, i was expecting these to be very expensive). If anyone has built it via bricklink, was it worth doing it this way or would it be easier/cheaper to just buy a set...? Any help appreciated, thanks :D Tim.

Just looked thru your town for the first time, and i'm very impressed!! Awesome job, each update has shown considerable improvement and growth! Great to see the evolution and the cinema is an impressive addition to this thriving metropolis!! Can't wait for the next installment!!! :D

Thanks for the comments guys Yeah i have some paper on some of it, i just need to buy some more, i would love to have blue baseplates but at the moment i am using any spare $$ on building rather than aesthetics, but they are definitely on the list haha Thanks for suggestion :D

awesome bridge build! Looks great! I'm a bit worried about that dynamite on one of the girders.... Looks like it's wired to a timer or something... Maybe someone should alert the Lego City Undercover squad.....?

Thanks for the comments :D You'll all be pleased to know Brixton Town Council has struck a deal with the railway network (i found some cheap tracks on eBay ) so hopefully the train will complete its loop inn early April to coincide with the opening of the new Cafe Corner Hotel... Of course i will make an update once this exciting news comes to fruition!

Hello! I would like to introduce my town and show you some photos... I have just decided on the name Brixton for the town and have made a few updates today, altho this is the first time i have posted it on the EB Forum. Previous updates can be found on my youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.c...iew=0&flow=grid and also on my flickr photostream (photos below are links). Anyway, without further ado, a couple of snaps! So there's a few pics, but there are more on my flikr stream so please check it out. Future updates will arrive, and i have a few MOCs/MODs in the pipeline as well as plan to have a railway all the way around the city, and tiling the road plates. Unfortunately Brixton Town Council is a little short on funds atm, so it may take some time. Comments and suggestions welcome :D Cheers, TimmyC

nice town and story telling :) i loved the way you did the car crash/garage fire, and i like the gem shop. Looking forward to the next installment :D

Awesome. I love the detail inside, phenomenal! I especially like the spot lights "lighting" up the art. And i really dig the entrance too, very clever detailing with the white round 1 x 1 plates etc. And did you steal the Chandelier from 10211....?
-
well i hope it remains standing! It's a great build and very creative i for one have taken inspiration from it!
-
Awesome build, i love the stone work with the 1 x 1 round plates. I know this is older thread but i couldn't click away from this building without commenting! I hope this house is still in brick form in your city? Great detail inside too, i particularly like the bookshelves. happy building!

YAY, finally all done (almost). Still a couple of pieces missing from dodgy bricklink orders (and/or my dodgy maths) but it's built now i just need to wait for the orders for the interior to come and i'll be a very happy chappy As you can see, the windows on the top story are red instead of white, as i already had the red ones and didn't want to pay $25 per window and i settled for the panels with the side supports, which you can barely tell the difference. I managed to pick up the dark blue arch cheaply (had minor play wear) and i got light bley door that opens the other way for cheap too (again light play wear on the glass) but all in all i'm pleased with it and pleased with the way the red windows look hope everyone else can be a successful as me in their Cafe Corner hunt!!
-
So i finally received my last bricklink package today!!!!! much to my excitement.... My excitement soon dwindled when i realised two major bungles with the order not to mention i'd been waiting almost 4 weeks for this package which is well above the average of around 11 days for all the other ones.... Living in Australia is very annoying sometimes!!!!! I think i am going to have to start anyway... I can't wait any longer.......

Yes i did originally think about a second story, the cost was the major factor that made me decide against, esp as the medium blue bricks are expensive and don't come any larger than 1 x 4s... I think i will keep a second story in mind for down the track when i have a bit more $$ (if that ever happens ) but the way i have added the roof on it will easily turn into a second story, i just have to fit stairs in somehow.... Thanks for the feedback all

I have now added the Cinema back iinto the town.. a couple of shots for you all Cheers, TimmyC

I'm very interested to see how you go Cian, as i have 90% of the parts for my BL'd Cafe Corner and have already done an inventory in excel for my next project: Green Grocer haha. Not to mention all my MODs and MOCs in the pipeline too. But i will be sure to see how your GG unfolds and what sort of cost you are looking at altogether. Unfortunately, my spares tubs have suffered recently as i keep raiding them for Cafe Corner and other projects so i doubt i'll have much joy with them for GG, so i will be PaBing and BLing almost all of it..... Good luck for your final hunt!

Very impressive no wonder i can't find any tan bricks anywhere tho
-
here's the link Andy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/timmyc1983/ hope that works for you. Thanks everyone, glad that you all like it... :D

nicely done. When i buy this set i plan to mod the upstairs interior into a theatre (as opposed to a cinema), but it doesn't look like there's heaps of room up there... you've done a good job with it tho :)

Thanks for all the positive comments :) much appreciated. Tomorrow i shall figure out how to add it to my town and put some pics up of that (if it looks good )
