Mercedes Arocs Trailer
M_longer replied to Kman860's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have made a trailer for my MAN TGS dump truck, which has same axle setup as Arocs set. http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=108467 -
Very nice colour scheme. If you have so much spare power from two XLs, you could consider making a dump trailer. Whole truck is bit off with proportions, but for first MOC it looks good. Where did you lost mudguards from rear axles?

[MOC] KOMATSU 951
M_longer replied to LegoMathijs's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I hate being bearer of bad news, but those wheels are also too small for 1:25 scale. Anyway, I am waiting for pictures of improved version of 951.- 6 replies

[MOC] KOMATSU 951
M_longer replied to LegoMathijs's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like colours scheme and that it can be posed as real machine. Cutting tool is also nicely done. What I don't like is lack of proportions in whole model. After looking at this picture: You can see that wheels you are using are too small. For 1:25 scale you should use these on front: http://alpha.brickli...?P=56145c02#T=C And theese on the back: http://alpha.brickli...?P=41896c03#T=C The cab is way too high and should be rebuilt. Central pivot point in frame could use some fake cylinders for steering. I also think that whole frame under the cab is too thin. On other hand. thing that is too thick is the arm. A s you can see here: Whole arm is very thin. You could use this: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=57779#T=C Instead of that brick built arm and it would look much better.- 6 replies

Tools you use
M_longer replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Please note that whitening effect is not permanent. I have used 30% hydrogen dioxide on 8880 wheels and they turned tan again. This is how my wheels looked before the process: And after: After two years they started to become yellowish tan again, kept in a box, without exposing to sun. -
OK, noted. Sooo, it really looks nice in white. I like overal shape of the cab and using 6L links as front window frame. I think that after few modifications (lights lower) it could look even better. For example, it could use some warning lights on top of the cab. Rear bumper is taken straight from 42043, while in real heavy haul versions of Mercedes trucks something like rear bumper does not exists. Instead, you can find some hitches on the back (and front too!) and lights placed on the mudguards.

It is just the way how I comment MOCs of other people. There are (and there will appear another) comments that say only "good work". Do they add something to the topic? So why should I post another reply like that, when I can just say what I do not like in the model?

Uhm, so it was supposed to be an Actros or an Arocs? Ok, first of all, front lights are placed way too high. They should be where now are those white panels, right above 3x3 liftarms. And why does they move with doors?

[MOC] MAN TGS 8x4 Dump Truck

I'd rather go for something like this: -
[MOC] MAN TGS 8x4 Dump Truck
M_longer replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice :) It is as sturdy as it can be with this level of details. For example mirrors and first steps under the cab could be built like in technic sets, but it would be far more thicker. Truck can be taken by placing hands under the front and rear bumpers. Some parts in this truck can't be connected to the rest with more than 1-2 studs due to way how they are built. But I will keep your observations in mind while creating another truck :) -
Nope. For example: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10248-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=21301-1

M_longer replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have "borrowed" one from my wife. It works very well when it comes to remove dust from models. -
I'd love to see that set with Orange cab. It is possible to build it in orange, because all needed parts were produced over past years in Orange. But some of them (like connectors) are very expensive. Due to few specific pieces (panels mostly) there are only few (white, red, black) possibilities to have cab built in single colour. Other colours, like green, blue and yellow would require some major rebuild in the cabin structure, and replacement of some parts. This is why I decided to go with Red this time. Quite good :) MLCad model is missing PF wires, and whole instruction needs editing, because it is just a raw file with steps. I think that it will be ready for September.

8043 White MOC
M_longer replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is a normal 8043 set, instructions can be found on Brickset, or LEGO.com. Just replace all yellow parts (maybe except knobs) with white ones. -
Both cylinders are made from these parts: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=4854 There is a string with set of pulleys inside, which pull the grey liftarms out, elevating the boom. Each cylinder is driven by single M motor.

I have disassembled my copy and I could not resist using new pneumatics in something. I tried to make an alternate model for this set, but I ended with this: Actros clamshell parts put side to side look like ditch cleaning bucket, so I decided to make a wheeled excavator. Unfortunately, it will be not finished. The arm works quite well, except the centering of the bucket (pneumatic tubes collide with bucket links). The superstructure can be rotated by using warning light on the top of the cab. Front wheels can be steered by that bevel gesr under battery box. The blade and stabilizers are missing and I have no idea how to make them working with parts that are left. Whole excavator has got some major problems with stability, and that is the main reason why I will not continue building it. Also, I am used to have smooth shapes in my models, and all those holes and gaps look weird for me.

In Wrocław. My friend works in shop that sells and lends LEGO sets and gave me info about delivery of new sets.

From stational store. Bought for 825 PLN, which is, hmm, 200 EUR. I have almost finished building it, only few parts on the dump bed are missing. Only thing that concerns me are pneumatic tubes. They smell. Like chemical spray used in agriculture.
