Think about it on other way: It was sometimes annoying to place driving ring inside a model, because it needs 0,5 stud displacement. With new parts, it will be not necessary. -

MAN TGS Tipper Truck
M_longer replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok, some not edited (I really should make some movie with TGS driving around with that thing behind it) ones: http://www.majhost.c...er/dsc02651.jpg http://www.majhost.c...er/dsc02641.jpg Unfortunatelly, we have very cloudy weather, and I am unable to make good pictures of all my models. Anyway, I am thinking about rebuilding tipper version to fit details of tow truck's. And changing it to three axle version. And making it tipping to back, not side. So many ideas, and no time for building all things I'd like to :( -

Like pushing it from top of a skyscraper? It will remain in air, at least before it hits the ground :) -

No, currently I am working on a model for contest held on LUGpol. Model with 1000 parts in total, built in style of LEGO technic sets. I can't specify when they will be done. Does the picture with L580 instead of Volvo satisfy you? ;) -

Maybe? We have great LEGO community, which helped me a lot in my building career :) -
[MOC] MAN TGS 8x4 Tow Truck

No idea, so far I did not have time for making instructions of Volvo. But it has a lot of pneumatic tubbing and wires, and I am not skilled enough to make them in MLCad. Anyway, Here is how it looks without body panels: Wires and tubbing routing: And split to modules: -

Try to guess... May I ask for removing this topic? Because I have just finished writing proper one with description: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102180 -
After nine months of building I'd like to present my latest model. MAN TGS 8x4 Tow Truck with OMArS 120T recovery bodywork It is based on various trucks, mostly on this . This gave me idea for colour scheme. And pictures of this Volvo were also helpful. Unlike the yellow one, which was build in a hurry for contest, this tow truck has a lot more details, like opening doors and cab interior. Whole truck is covered with stripes of reflective foil. Three rows on sides, and additional chevrons on front and back: OK, we have talked over external appearence, now it is time for internal mechanics. And there's lot of it inside. Model weigths 4kg, I decided to build solid frame without suspension. Due to its mass, it would not work properly. In the inside are: 8878 battery, 6 PF motors, 2 micromotors, 4 PF switches, one 9V switch, 5 pair PF LEDs, 3 1x4 light bricks, 4 PF extension wires, two IR receivers, 5 9V wires, 11 pneumatic cylinders, 4 small pumps, one airtank, 6 pneumatic switches and one coffe cup. Placed like this: Front axles are steered by Servo motor, each axle has different steering angle, achieved with different lenght of steering arms. Simple and effective. Single XL motor is responsible for driving whole model. It has no problems with mass of the model, even when it is towing something (W900 chassis weights over 1kg). Main double winch is driven by single Medium Motor. Its rotation is speeded up a bit to match crane arm extending speed. The crane arm is extended by single M motor trough linear clutch. Cluth provides additional protectnion for the extending mechanism, which uses chain links instead of gear racks. Front winch is driven by single M motor. If you would like to build one, I have made instructions for it while learning MLCad. Side winches are placed on both outriggers. Each is driven by single micromotor. It will not pull a elephant, but it works well with light loads. The pneumatic compressor is driven by L motor, and is using four small 5.5L pumps connected to an airtank: Speaking about pneumatics: Six circuits in total, all using large cylinders: Front outriggers use two for each outrigger: Crane arm is raised by two cylinders, wheel lift is operated by single cylinder: Steering hatches: Blue - arm extending, yellow - main winch: Black - front outriggers lowering, grey - front outriggers folding, yellow - raising the lightbar, red - front winch Back: Blue - crane arm rasing, red - wheel lift movement, grey - rear outriggers lowering Compressor is powered via pressure switch. The switch has small pneumatic cylinder with rubber band connected to it. When the pressure is high enough, cylinder overcome the rubber band and turn the switch off. Lights. Front and rear LEDs are powered directly from 8878 battery. Lightbars are powered from 9V switch placed inside the cab. Ready to work? So let's work: And here you can see how developing of such model looks like: 2600x2600px: Flickr

It is quite annoying, because I can do two things: build a model on LEGO wheels, but without functions, or buy third party tires and build fully functionall model.

It seems so. I do not think that LEGO will produce wheels with 15cm diameter :)

Not ON Volvo set, which I don't have, but on wheels that are yellow only in 42030. http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=15038 However, those tires on Volvo set could look funny

Liebherr L 580
M_longer replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, L580 was built five years ago, Volvo few days back, so I think that CAT will be built in 2019 ;) I am not thinking about building another wheel loader, but I am gathering parts for this: -
Five years ago I have shown model of Liebherr L580 loader: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=403492 Even then I did not liked its bucket, but there were no other way to have big and light bucket that fits to scale. Some time ago I have bought bucket from 42030 set and I tried to mount it on L580: I did not succeded, because it didn't worked as I would like it to. So I decided to build new loader, that will work properly with new bucket. In five days new model came to life, a Volvo L250G Wheel Loader. Real machine: Volvo L250G Wheel Loader by Volvo CE NA, on Flickr And my model: It weights 1,6kg and it's driven by single PF L motor: Steering is achieved by single M motor and two small Linear Actuators: The bucket is raised by single L motor: And tilted by single M motor: All motors are controlled by two IR receivers, and powered by Rechargeable battery box: The cab has interior, but no opening door: Comparision to L580: Real machine uses reflective foil for improving its visibility in the dark. My model also has some reflective stripes: And here you can see how it works: MOCPages Flickr
