First of all, two z8 gears without support on both sides, need to be reinfiorced to work properly. Second, get rid of them, because it is you weakest point.

What the heck?

An alternate model for 42108 Mobile Crane: Inspired by DAF CF trucks: But first, what is a roll-off? Roll-off truck at first glance looks like a hook loader or dump truck. The difference is how the whole loading/unloading of container works: the roll-off truck raises its hydraulically operated bed, the roll-off container rolls off the bed. A cable is used to slowly lower the container. After the waste container is loaded, the roll-off truck pulls the filled container onto the roll-off truck with the cable and winch system. Comes with three manual functions, which are HoG steering, bed elevation and winch. Model usues almost all parts from the set, which allowed to make detailed interior and exterior, with working steering wheel, openable doors, dashboard, air filter on the roof etc: Let’s start with the container: It almost does not have any gaps, so it can hold almost anything, starting from 1×1 plates, up to large chunks of “scrap” (here made from remaining parts): Rear door of the container can be locked: Underside of the container have added self-guiding rails, making loading of the container easier, if it’s not perfeclty aligned. Basically, whole middle section of the chassis is built around the XL actuator. I have made a roll off truck :)

I have just finished B model for this set, DAF CF-like truck, made only with pieces from 42108 set. It comes with HoG steering on front axles (with working steering wheel), liftable container sliding frame and winch with lock. Can work also as a regular #dumptruck I tried to add as many details as possible within given range of parts. Truck comes with detailed exterior, doors can be opened too. With my 42078 Snow Plow:

What you can see here is totally rebuilt carrier from 42108 set, with unchanged supestructure. It has the same wheelbase, but everything elses was designed from scratch. Let's start with the visual side of this rework: First thing that caught my eye were missing side mirrors. Its predecessor, the 8053 had it. So I have added them in my version. Next thing that was changed are overall proportions of the cab itslef. Now it is wider, but shorter and higher, and thanks to that it resemble better shapes of cabs of various mobile cranes. I wanted to keep style of stock cab, so there are macaroni bricks used, but due to way whole cab was built there are no opening doors either. The main core of the chassis is almost the same, I wanted to keep the stock wheelbase and suprisingly it is alo very compact, which was crucial for adding the extendable outriggers. Let's compare both carriers: Improved version has completely closed deck, while stock one had some flimsy mudguards only. The most visible difference is seen when utriggers are fully deployed: 42108 had very short and hard to use outrigers, upgraded version has four extendable outriggers.
