  2. I was told back in September by some people... in the know... that 2016 will be an awesome year for a person like me who is a fan of epic fantasy. I wasn't able to squeeze more information out of them, what with NDAs and all, but this rumor coincides with what I was told.
  3. LEGO has 350+ designers working for them, and many of them are AFOLs. They've been bulding stuff like this (and stuff much, much better than this) for decades. Do you really think you were the first to come up with a small city LEGO shop? Or a car dealership? Or whatever else? TLG doesn't need to "steal" Ideas designs. They have tens of thousands of designs of their own. The only reason Ideas exists is (1) to give the AFOLs a (false) sense that they are influencing the product direction and (2) for some nice and free market research. I was sickened when HH came out and people accused the designer of stealing the design. That same designer was so unsettled by the accusations that he actually came to EB and wrote a long post regarding the HH design history. I hoped that people here were past the petty criticisms and didn't suffer from overly inflated self-importance, but I guess I was wrong.
  4. Actually, TLG has removed the rule about not discussing the LUGBULK program in public as of November 1st. Details of the program are freely available here: https://lan.lego.com/faq The only thing that remains confidential is the pricing.
  5. Is it just my imagination, or does the Treetop have new flower stems which can fit up to six flowers?
  6. Category A: #2 #3 Category B: #1 #3 Category C: #4 #6
  7. Yes, because there is not such thing as colorful buildings in the real world. Oh wait. Look, it's Denmark:
  8. Thanks :) Here are a few photos of the Keep by itself (taken at my home... don't mind the background):
  9. Hi everyone. I'd like to present the final version of my fantasy castle diorama - Darkness Rising. This one was displayed at the 12th exhibition of my LUG - Skockani - in the town of Kragujevac in central Serbia. A slightly different version was presented at the 2013 Lego Fan Weekend in Skaerbaek, and yet another version was shown in Belgrade in late 2012. Here's an aerial view: The display is dominated by Red Queen's Keep in the upper right corner. The keep is raised on a rocky outcrop which is approximately 2 BURPs in height. Contained within the outcrop are a prison and a ruby mine. The keep itself is 64 studs wide and has 3 floors (each is about 17 bricks in height) with a tower on top. Aside from the keep, you can also see the Lich King's Tomb (front right), the gateway next to it, two ramshackle orc towers (to the left of the gate), a druid's tree (in the forest in the front left corner, and the ruined snake temple (to the left of the keep). The various parts of the layout were built at different times, but I'd estimate the total build time to be at least 3 months.
  10. The source would be Jamie Berard, Design Manager Specialist for the LEGO Creator line. He stated that to an audience of 80 AFOLs at the Lego Fan Weekend.
  11. The designs are probably not finalized, but they have at least decided (1) that there will be at least 5 more modulars and (2) what the next 5 are going to be. There are most likely early designs which will be subject to change due to parts availability. AFAIK, Creator sets are not allowed to have any new parts that are not a part of another current product line.
  12. Not sure if this was already posted. Jamie held a presentation/workshop during the Lego Fan Weekend; while the presentation was devoted to 10244 Fairground Mixer, he did mention one tidbit regarding the modulars - the next five modulars have already been decided and approved. So, the line is quite safe for at least 5 years into the future. I also heard from other sources that Jamie had been promoted to a management position and so he won't be doing as much design in the future as he used to.
  13. This will not end well... I expect we'll see some sort of Greenpeace retaliation against TLG.
  14. The Haunted House is not a modular building. It doesn't adhere to the modular building standards, cannot be easily connected to another modular building without modifications, and doesn't have modular floors. It's a very nice set and certainly can be displayed alongside modulars, but let's not pretend it's something that it's not.
  15. How old, exactly? Pre-2006, pre-2003? Incidentally, anybody who went to the LFW QC seminar can tell you that the "changed the way they use ABS" is a pretty generalized statement. Firstly, TLG uses many different types of plastic, one of which is ABS. Secondly, they are now FORCED by the EU to change their plastic composition and pigment formulations every few years because the EU keeps expanding its list of compounds banned in childrens' toys. That's another reason for inconsistency and, possibly, for parts breakage.
  16. Looks great, but where's Dogmeat? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Caf%C3%A9_of_Broken_Dreams
  17. I don't think so. I'm pretty far from being obsessed with misogyny, and I'm seeing lots and lots of it in this thread. I work in software development. The usual stereotype is that software developers are male, nerdy, introverted, and with poor social skills. Guess what? The majority of employees in my current company are female - as were the majority of employees in my previous company. They come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds (mathematicians, electrical engineers, QA engineers, organizational scientists, economists, IT managers, etc) and are every bit as competent as their male counterparts. If anything, I'd say that they are more responsible and dedicated than "us guys."
  18. Actually, TLG claims that it's due to availability rather than cost. Due to the huge increase in volume, TLG needs a lot more pigment for the colorless pellets than any individual supplier can provide, so they have to buy pigment from multiple suppliers. While they do provide specs for the pigments, they cannot check for variations in color since each pigment supplier ships to a different factory. One might be 1% darker, the other 1% lighter (percentages used only as an example, I have no idea what the actual percentages are) but the difference when bricks from those batches are placed next to each other is now 2%, and that's too much. Of course, the problem could likely be solved by going back to colored pellets, which would kill 90% of the current palette. Large palette or no quality issues - we can't have both, it seems. The only parts you can tell for sure are Chinese - any part which contains printing on a non-flat surface and comes in a sealed bag is from China. The rest are impossible to tell, since parts from all countries come to the same warehouse and are mixed up prior to packing. You may end up with all Danish parts, or a mix of Mexican and Czech parts. They pretty much list all countries on all boxes these days, as long as the factory in that particular country has a mold for a part used in the set.
  19. That's not a corner building - it's a regular building that's been placed at a corner.
  20. Around 84k in sets (as per Brickset) and probably around 30k in loose bricks.
  21. No set shots yet, this is from one TLG employee's FB account.
  22. Town Hall is not too bad, it just has a lot more focus on its play feature (elevator) and interior design than on the facade (which is fairly simplistic by modular standards).
  23. Order of release: Cafe Corner (2007) Market Street (2007) Green Grocer (2008) Fire Brigade (2009) Grand Emporium (2010) Pet Shop (2011) Town Hall (2012) Palace Cinema (2013) Parisian Restaurant (2014) Fire Brigade has been retired, you should get it while its price is still close to retail. Grand Emporium looks like it's about to be retired; while Pet Shop would be the next logical set to retire, Town Hall is a poor seller (as modular buildings go) so it may actually be the first to go. The first 3 are long gone and really expensive on the aftermarket. A lot of people are "bricklinking" them (buying parts for them on Bricklink) since that's a bit cheaper than getting them as sets.
