  1. Ugh, the new CMF wizard is a Disney Merlin... the REAL Merlin should look like this:
  2. For one, the MOCs are not secret. They are available online and some designers show their stuff at various LEGO events (the LEGO Fan Weekend, for example). But the designers damn well know (better than you and I) how the things work in their own company. Of course they can pitch ideas, and I think the Creator team probably has more liberty than other teams given the scope of their line, but they work under a lot of restrictions and everything they make is ultimately decided by the sales and marketing departments. Because, you know, TLG is a corporation, and its goal is to make money.
  3. LEGO designers work under a huge set of limitations that MOCers don't have. I've seen MOCs done by LEGO designers and they can easily match the best MOCs made by the community; however, the reality is such that they can never be made into sets. AFAIK, all LEGO designers work in the same building in Billund, but they come from all over the world. There were around 150 of them the last time I heard the figures.
  4. Very cool and quite similar to the ones we used to have here in Serbia. Do all those parts exist in those colors, or is it a LDD-only MOC?
  5. Very nice! You've managed to pack a huge amount of details. The safe looks a bit big for the bank of this size, wonder what they're hiding inside? ;)
  6. Out of curiosity, do you know the approximate number of pieces you used for the castle itself? It's for a bet ;)
  7. I've been to London but don't recall any olive green buildings (quite a few red and blue though!) but I'll take your word for it :) Here in Belgrade the most exotic color in our historic center is dark red (though it's possible some of the dirty gray facades were once colorful as well, I guess).
  8. Few buildings anywhere are olive green, but if we got only realistic-colored buildings half the city would be white and the other half tan. The olive green doesn't detract from the overall look, which evokes the spirit of Parisian architecture without slavishly copying any one particular building. OTW, we've heard your opinion of the PR like, a bajillion times. Why do you feel the need to reiterate it every five posts? Is it just to create a false image that the PR is universally hated? I really have nothing for or against Jamie (I dislike the new Maersk ship and Fairground Mixer he designed, for example) but I've enjoyed the PR immensely and I think it fits perfectly with the other modulars. Place it next to the lower part of Market Street (which you can decorate with a roof garden) and presto, the restaurant guests no longer have to look into a wall. It's otherwise chock-full of details and great building techniques.
  9. It just occured to me. There are a whole bunch of modular buildings shown in the LEGO Movie. Once the BlueRay edition comes out, it will probably pay off to watch the city scenes frame by frame for clues :D
  10. First of all, find the really really expensive and irreplaceable pieces (radar dishes, rigging, etc) and set them aside. Treat them separately and with care. Before washing, try compressed air + magic duster (high quality variety) + soft make-up brush. It may take a while but it's still quicker than washing/rinsing/drying and you don't risk water stains. If most parts still seem dirty, you can try the washer pillowcase technique (delicate cycle), the dishwasher (there are Bosch dishwashers that have a special LEGO cycle), or, if there are just a few dirty parts, dunk them in soapy (dishwasher soap) water for a few hours, rinse each part individually and spread over a large towel. In either case, spread them on a towel to dry and put a fan near them to dry them quickly to avoid water stains.
  11. I am in the process of bricklinking CC, about 50% done. Hopefully it'll be complete by July. GG to follow. IMO, paying the current rates is insane. My friend sold just the instructions for those two for 200 EUR.
  12. Serbian LUG "Skockani" is proud to announce its 8th exhibition, to be held at the Belgrade ZIRA Shopping Centre from April 11th until April 19th. Spectacular space, city, friends, and castle dioramas, numerous stand-alone MOCs, and rare sets will be on display within the 700 square metre exhibition area. In addition to the exhibition, visitors will be able to: - Try out the interactive Technic creations - Play the latest Playstation and XBOX LEGO video games - Participate in creative LEGO workshops - Compete in 4 different competitions, including obstacle course and speed building - See the latest LEGO Wear collection at the LEGO Wear fashion show Discover more at the Official LUG website and Facebook page.
  13. Are you a member of a LUG? Yes, I am a founding member and one of the officers of the Serbian LUG "Skockani" (which was established in 2010). Are you actively participating in your LUG? Yes. I help organize the events, sometimes run our meetings, handle some aspects of LUGBULK and other group orders, build MOCs and dioramas and lend my sets for displays, communicate with TLG on LUG-related matters, and so on... Would you consider supporting more actively the online AFOL community (e.g. Eurobricks) as moderator, regulator (indexing, ...), making set reviews, etc.? I'd love to help, but I'm afraid I simply don't have the time - between a full-time job with frequent overtime, my activities in the LUG and my other hobbies, I am already neglecting some aspects of my personal life (which is not good).
  14. I think there is a good chance that we'll get a part of Dol Guldur with Radagast and one or more members of the White Council (hopefully not Gandalf) with DOS or TABA sets, since the attack on the Necromancer will be featured in the movies.
  15. According to the info I have from a few months ago, LOTR was selling well, but not as well as LEGO had hoped. It outsold the other recent fantasy licensed themes (Prince of Persia, Pirates of the Caribbean) by far, but did not manage to get close to the Star Wars sets.
  16. Never mind.
  17. March 2013. I'm surprised I got the article up before EB even though I had to translate it into Serbian: http://skockani.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=44&id=19427&Itemid=137〈=en#19427
  18. They are not final versions of figures in the set.
  19. I like the exterior, but by removing the "logs" from the log cabin, it no longer looks so unique
  20. Lothlorien tree house, Rivendell, and Grond look like they come from sets. Which is unfortunate, since Rivendell looks like crap. Orthanc looks like a microscale set - LOTR Architecture series, anyone? Edoras looks too simple to be a set (at that size), Argonath and Minas Tirith have too many unconventional and unstable building techniques (plus Minas Tirith looks to be microscale as well).
  21. How can you say that it has nothing interesting? It comes with tree parts, a mushroom, a goblet, and a longbow - all highly useful and/or rare parts.
  22. The dark blue cape was last in production in 2008, during the fantasy era. The short dark blue cape entered production in 2012. Now, it's possible that they have a stock of dark blue capes or are producing them again, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  23. From what I've heard, LOTR is selling pretty well, but not as well as they had hoped. Certainly much better than POTC and PoP, for instance. Also, I wrote this on the board before the crash/restore so it got lost - the castle theme is in no way dependent on the success of LOTR. The new castle theme (if any) was designed and prepared for production before they even had the LOTR sales figures.
  24. Something really weird just popped up at a local auction site: Supposedly, the bricks are identical to LEGO and were made in Denmark in 1991. There are: 500 bricks 4 small tires 8 large tires 2 large axles 1 small axle 9 gray plates 3 x 6.5 cm 39 windows and doors 4 large half-cylinders and 5 small half-cylinders that form a pipe 6 round stands 2 covers 4 green plates 19 x 9.5 cm cardboard characters Is it even remotely possible that LEGO manufactured this for Mirage Studios, considering the "made in Denmark" mark?
