Mafia Sunset - Day 1: The Beginning
jimmynick replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
How awful for Sinclair to be drowned on such a nice island as this! Gosh, I hope we find all the traitors quickly so I can get back to teaching in New York. -
I went to the Chicago store today and bought 1 large and 1 small cup. I got various nice pieces: 1x1 plate clear 1x2 plate clear 1x2 plate tan 1x2 brick dark red 2x2 plate with 1 stud white 2x4 plate tan 2x10 plate tan Travis bricks. They also had all sorts of 1x2 tiles (pink, trans. blue) and lt. bley clips, that sort of thing. I was very happy with the selection.

Mafia Sunset - Confirmation and Discussion
jimmynick replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Hey everybody, I'm Jasper! I'm a nuclear physicist, so I guess that makes me the half-life of the party. -
There are so many things that are impressive about this, but I think my favourite feature is the consistent use of clips and tiles to frame the greebles. Have fun at your exhibition!

online shop where i can find everything
jimmynick replied to addemlit's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Pick a Brick on lego.com is fairly expensive compared to Bricklink. My best advice is probably to make a wishlist of items on Bricklink and see which shops have the most of what you want, if you can deal with not getting some of the other things. -
Mafia After Dark - Epilogue: Sunset
jimmynick replied to Tamamono's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
1. Only played here and tad IRL, but not since CMF Mafia 2. 2. I feel OK with how I play. I always say I'm going to try to lurk but it's hard not to. 3. I think it could give scum an advantage since you can't finger them with fishy voting. 4. I was the Malone hitman! But I didn't get to use it... -
Great review! Having seen the side-by-side comparison (thanks for that, and for the interview!), I really think I prefer TLG's set to the prototype because it's more compact and lower to the ground, though the original does have all those lovely chrome bits. I don't think there's a single thing I don't like about the set.

Could you stretch the suspension of disbelief a touch and not include stairs at all? -

Thanks for showing us this! It looks great. The shapes you made out of tan on the facade make it interesting to look at. Are you going to build an underground tunnel to go with it?

Hi! This is a good start, as you've really captured the shape of the ship, and I like the opening doors! Also, the interior looks nice and very playable. However, it's a little bit boring to look at and there are definitely ways in which it can be improved. The top view you posted shows there's much more to the ship, even colour-wise, than just orange. First off, to me, the ship has a stripe in a light yellowish or orange colour - you could probably incorporate this easily by changing the colours of some of the slopes that make up the Scorpio's hull. Also, there are recessed areas with exposed pipes and other mechanical details, which aren't in the model - these are the textures that make the ship interesting subject matter. You could build in these greebles by removing some of the slopes and perhaps putting in SNOT panels on hinges. You could certainly do it lots of other ways. How many pieces does it have? It looks huge. Good luck when you build it actual bricks!

Somehow I haven't seen this before! Your little hearse is such a faithful reproduction of the large one on a small scale - it fits in so well with the haunted house. I also like the bumper on the updated hearse - the jumper plates poking out at the bottom are nifty.

These are all nice to look at! My favourites are the large dresser and the kitchen, which really reminds me of the old-timey Homemaker sets. The cupboard in the kitchen that sits at a 45 degree angle is clever - but I don't think I've seen one of those in real life ever. I look forward to seeing your house!

Last 2 years creations (mostly cars, 1 boat, 1 house)
jimmynick replied to SearchFunction's topic in LEGO Town
These are all nice! I particularly like the 5-wide and the large family car, as well as the yacht. The family car reminds me so some degree of the Volvo XC70. Could the yacht do with some more windows in the side of the hull? Keep building nice cars, boats and houses! -
How to place buildings with baseplates on other baseplates?
jimmynick replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in LEGO Town
If you have baseplates at the very bottom, you can put tiles below the sideways bricks or use any number of SNOT techniques (brackets, bricks with side studs) to fix those sideways bricks in place. -
How to place buildings with baseplates on other baseplates?
jimmynick replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in LEGO Town
Notice that the "base" part of a baseplate is 1/2 plate thick - if you put it on top of a layer of bricks that is sideways, it will line up perfectly with a border of bricks that is studs-up. There are plenty of other ways to achieve this alignment, as well. -
Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
jimmynick replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The Farnsworth house is fairly uninteresting as a building, to me, but the Villa Savoye is enthralling to look at. There, too, is the curved section on the roof of the Villa Savoye that is rendered well in the set.- 31 replies

This looks pretty nice - is there any chance you can stick these LDD files inside an LDD model of the actual set? I'd love to see these interiors in context.

Darth Revan minifig (and other May the 4th promotions)
jimmynick replied to Debricker's topic in LEGO Star Wars
He's a pretty mainstream EU character nonetheless, I think. I'm a fan of KotOR and I would really like to pick this figure up! -
Looks interesting. The siding is cool, but it seems like there should be more above the roof. Perhaps you could make it taller or more substantial?

Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
jimmynick replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Good topic; there's such a variety of Architecture sets and room for discussion. I will choose, in order: Robie House Villa Savoye Fallingwater Sungnyemun Space Needle I choose the Space Needle because the technique of using flex-tubing to recreate the curved sides is very clever. I wonder why they didn't do that for the Eiffel Tower? Also, I agree that the Taj Mahal is not an Architecture set.- 31 replies
