Red Menace Mafia: Conclusion - Das Boot
jimmynick replied to jimmynick's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I realize that now, but I didn't when the game began (and I didn't want to change the setup). As I've already mentioned to Bob, a better way to set up the traitor would have been to give the traitor, instead of Adventurer1, the investigative action. The puzzles were supposed to get harder and harder as time went on and, to counter the effects of time zones, not easily solved through internet searches. As for clues within the puzzles, I did give "Vigenere" and "A little bird" and I had hoped that the first and third puzzles would naturally point towards sums and music, respectively. Thanks for your compliments and criticism, everyone. I'll keep these things in mind if and when I next host a mafia game. -
Red Menace Mafia: Conclusion - Das Boot
jimmynick replied to jimmynick's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Wins Bob was a traitor - he did not know who the scum team were but, because of how I phrased his win condition, he gets a win. Adventurer1 was a usurper - she did not win because the godfather (Speedy) was still alive when the scum team outnumbered the town. Puzzles Day One: Using a trapezoidal Riemann sum, you should have got about 157m. No-one came close, but the phrasing of the puzzle allowed me to distribute prizes. Day Two: Vigenere cipher with key "Norfolk". Plaintext as follows: We suspect the submarine has on board a system of vents that streamline the ship and allow it to achieve speeds of up to fifty knots If such a system existed and we replicated or stole its design then it would be invaluable in defeating the capitalist pigs that plague this planet Our intelligence suggests that the commander on board is fairly oblivious so it should not be too difficult to achieve this mission without attracting any attention Whatever you do please do not start killing off any of the crew We have received your message about the deaths on board the USS Portland We cannot allow the ship to return to the United States please navigate to a rendezvous between the islands of Novaya Zemlya so we may restore control and take the ship into Soviet hands Day Three: The letters made the melody of "In the Meadow Stood a Birch Tree," a Russian folk song that was used as a theme in the finale of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Day Four: The code, a:b:c, referred to a line a, a word b and a letter c in the poem "A Little Bird" by Pushkin. Decoded, it reads "Вы наши заключенные. Мы собираемся убить вас всех." It translates as "You are our prisoners. We are going to kill you all," which is amusing in a cognitive-dissonance sense because the original Pushkin is about setting a bird free. -
All are welcome to post in this thread! Jacob Neumann dragged Claire Novak (Calanon) back to the mess. He said to the crew, "It appears that Claire was a Loyal Sailor after all." "Well, what do we do now?" asked Jeremy Hollis. Monty Thornton responded, "For starters, I'm going to shoot Philip here." "Oh, no, I don't think so," responded Philip Dabney as he grappled Monty's gun away. Spencer Delgado had swapped his hammer for a knife and, as Philip held Monty still, Spencer stabbed Monty in the back. Spencer pulled the blade away and let the blood drip down. Jeremy exlaimed, "Hey, Spencer! I just watched you kill Monty!" "I know," responded Spencer. Philip picked up Monty's gun and pointed it at Jeremy. Pew! Pew! With all of their adversaries dead, the two remaining Soviet Spies stood for a moment with horrendous smirks on their faces. Then, they went up to the conning tower. There they met their handler, General Gogol. He said to them, "Good work, for now we have the capitalist pigs' fast propulsion system. Let us now take this submarine away to Novaya Zemlya." Congratulations to the winners, Speedy, PirateDave84 and Bob! I would like to thank Tamamono, for being there for me to bounce ideas off, and Dragonator, for letting me run my first mafia game! I hope everyone has enjoyed playing. The NPCs: Jacob Neumann (jamesn) - Commander Thaddeus Mortimore (Tamamono) - Lieutenant Commander The Players: Monty Thornton (mostlytechnic) - Cook Philip Dabney (PirateDave84) - Crewman Jeremy Hollis (jluckhaupt) - Crewman Spencer Delgado (Speedy) - Quartermaster The Dead: Lloyd Stanton (Lego Spy) - Plot Device Jerry Bergeron (JimBee) - Loyal Sailor Patrick Nash (Peanuts) - Loyal Sailor Adrienne Walton (adventurer1) - Soviet Spy Boris Benson (Bob) - Soviet Spy Trevor Knowles (TrumpetKing) - Loyal Sailor Malcolm Cooper (Mencot) - Loyal Sailor Edward Grey (Endgame) - Loyal Sailor Christopher Milton Poindexter (CallMePie) - Loyal Sailor Claire Novak (Calanon) - Loyal Sailor

Thanks for showing us how you made that detail.

It looks great and has a good feel. The old-style windows are something of a blast from the past. How did you get the little offset plates or tiles just below the roof?

Red Menace Mafia: Day Four - K-19: The Widowmaker
jimmynick replied to jimmynick's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
The last five sailors gathered in the control room with Thaddeus Mortimore and Jacob Neumann. Neumann said, "You have practically unanimously convicted Claire." "Please come with me." Claire, startled, exlaimed, "Commander! What are we doing here?" Commander Neumann replied, "This is a toilet..." "... and I'm going to swirly you to death." -

Mountain Blacksmith (built by my little bro)
jimmynick replied to soccerkid6's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The arrowslits are a bit wide (if, indeed, they are arrowslits at all) but the lavender colour textured with tan is fresh, and it goes well with the half-timbered portion of the building.- 9 replies

Let me start by saying the building looks great! It really does, apart from where it looks like the roof isn't quite finished. I have a very petty nitpick, but I feel addressing it will make the MOC much better. It looks like you built the corner by alternating this piece with SNOT cheese slopes. However, cheese slopes don't have the nice 45-degree angle that the building really needs in that situation. I see you've alternated which side of the corner the slope attaches to in order to remedy the problem, but it is still off-putting to look at. I have two solutions, with their pros and cons. The first is to keep stacking those facet bricks ^^. This solution is not ideal because then you'll just have a 2x2 column of facet bricks that isn't attached to anything else. You could interleave the bricks with plates (so you can attach the column to the rest of the building) and hope no-one minds the gap. The other solution is to use 3x3 facet bricks and, in alternating layers, attach headlight bricks (for flush-ness, instead of bricks 1x1 with 1 stud) and 1x2 tiles. I much prefer this solution because the corner of the building will have a smother curve, which it looks like you're already going for. This solution is not ideal because you'll have to rebuild a significant portion of the corner (but the MOC will look much better in the end!) I've whipped up these solutions in LDD using multiple colours for clarity, so you can see exactly what I mean:

Vote tally: Philip Dabney (PirateDave84): 1 (Calanon) Claire Novak (Calanon): (PirateDave84, mostlytechnic, Speedy, jluckhaupt) 5 players remain, so 3 votes are required for a lynch. About 26 hours remain in the day. -
Something's wrong with your html; I can't see anything.

Interlude Because watching his crew dropping like flies was surprisingly stressful, Jacob Neumann walked back through the USS Portland to his cabin. He wanted to have a sit down and a nice cup of tea. But he couldn't relax, for a message had been knifed to his side table! He went back to the control room and announced to the crew, "A little bird sent me a message, but I can't make head nor tail of it. The first three people who can might get a little prize." Voting is now open. -
MOC: Submersible Jago (Tauchboot Jago)

It's a great model and it looks stunning. Thanks for sharing! -
Post-apoc seems to me like a building fad that has largely run its course, and won't have the following to sustain an entire subforum. There is nothing to stop you from building within and writing your own post-apocalyptic mythos.

Thanks for playing, Endgame and CallMePie! -
Players only, please! Christopher Milton Poindexter (CallMePie) was attempting to enjoy a late-night cup of coffee when a mysterious figure walked in. "The fancy-dress party is in the bunk room," said Christopher to the stranger. Pew! Pew! Pew! And that was the end of Christopher Milton Poindexter (CallMePie). In the morning, the commanders and crew assembled in the control room. Neumann spoke, "It emerges that both Edward and Christopher were Loyal Sailors. Get back to work." The NPCs: Jacob Neumann (jamesn) - Commander Thaddeus Mortimore (Tamamono) - Lieutenant Commander The Players: Monty Thornton (mostlytechnic) - Cook Philip Dabney (PirateDave84) - Crewman Jeremy Hollis (jluckhaupt) - Crewman Spencer Delgado (Speedy) - Quartermaster Claire Novak (Calanon) - Steward The Dead: Lloyd Stanton (Lego Spy) - Plot Device Jerry Bergeron (JimBee) - Loyal Sailor Patrick Nash (Peanuts) - Loyal Sailor Adrienne Walton (adventurer1) - Soviet Spy Boris Benson (Bob) - Soviet Spy Trevor Knowles (TrumpetKing) - Loyal Sailor Malcolm Cooper (Mencot) - Loyal Sailor Edward Grey (Endgame) - Loyal Sailor Christopher Milton Poindexter (CallMePie) - Loyal Sailor The Rules: 1. Each player will be given a character to play, who will be aligned either with the Loyal Sailors (Town) or the Soviet Spies (Scum). To win the game, the Loyal Sailors must kill off all of the Soviet Spies, while the Spies need to outnumber the Sailors. Third-Party (neutral) characters have their own win conditions as outlined in their roles. 2. Each day you will be able to vote to lynch a player. Voting should be done in the following format: Vote: Character (Player). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format: Unvote: Character (Player). No other format will be accepted. A majority vote is required to lynch a player. 3. A game day will last a maximum of 72 hours. You may not vote in the first 24 hours. The day will end when a majority vote has been reached. After the day has concluded, a night stage will commence, which will last a maximum of 48 hours. Night actions must be sent to the host in the first 24 hours of the night stage. 4. The alignment of lynched players, as well as those who died during the night, will be revealed at the beginning of the following day. 5. You may not quote or pretend to quote anything sent to or from you in PM with the game hosts. This includes all the details of your character and role, as well as any night action results. Role claims and reporting of night action results are acceptable, but in your own words only. Do not attempt to use the structure of your role PM to your advantage. 6. Do not play the game outside the thread. Similarly, do not post out of character inside the thread; you must always play the role given to you. Game tactics and roles may only be discussed in the game thread or via PM with other players. Private discussion is done at your own risk and should be treated as part of the game. 7. If you are dead, you may not post in thread or discuss the game with any of the players. Any information you had becomes void, and may not be passed on. 8. You may not edit your posts. 9. You must post in every day thread. 10. If you encounter a problem or have a question, please contact the hosts via PM. 11. Vote Tally: Philip Dabney (PirateDave84): 1 (Endgame) Edward Grey (Endgame): 6 (Speedy, CallMePie, PirateDave84, jluckhaupt, mostlytechnic, Calanon) With 6 votes, Edward Grey (Endgame) has been convicted. Please submit your night actions in the next 24 hours! The crew assembled in the control room. While Thaddeus Mortimore kept an eye on the Soviet attack submarine through the periscope, Jacob Neumann addressed the remaining seven. "You've convicted Edward Grey (Endgame). The rest of you may go. Edward, I would like to show you something in my cabin." "Look, I've worked out what that mysterious Morse code signal means," said Neumann. But as interesting as it is, I'm not going to tell you. Instead, Neumann punched Edward in the face and simultaneously kicked him. Edward fell and hit his head on the corner of the bed, dying instantly. "Oops," remarked Neumann. "Here, I'll tell the crew that Edward fell over some spilled tea and had a tragic accident. That should do."

Very nice! The stockade looks great in dark brown. Your use of droid arms all around is really rather clever, and using clips to make the texture on the palm trees' trunks is really something, too.

Edward Grey (Endgame), the only remaining crew member who could use the radio or sonar, reported to Commander Neumann: "We are some 210 miles off the Kola Peninsula and we have a Soviet attack submarine a couple of hundred metres to port, sir." Neumann then spoke to the Lieutenant Commander, "Re-verify our range to target; one ping only." "Commander, I-I-I just..." "Give me a ping, Thaddeus. One ping only, please." Ping! Edward Grey spoke again. "We have a strange response coming back, as though a cat fell asleep on their Morse-code-key-thingymabob." Neumann spoke once more. "The first three people who can tell me what the Soviets' response means might get a little prize." Voting is now open.

Hello! About a year ago I presented a digital model of Battersea Power Station. You can find the original topic here. But since then, the model has been through 7 or 8 redesigns, so I think this justifies a new topic. This has sort of been a labour of love. In the past year, I went back to Battersea, visited the Britannia Row Studios and went on a Pink Floyd bender. I reworked and reworked this model until I finally decided it was finished, and ordered the bricks to build it. Here we go: EDIT: See more photos at Flickr. It's a shame I don't have a good photo set-up at the moment, but the pictures came out OK (if a little washed-out). C&C are welcome. Thanks for looking!

The little poles that prop up the roof look interesting, but the tree steals the show! I've never seen the interlocking ice cream bits attached to form a tree before, but the transition from the bricks to the organic Eldritch-abomination bubbles is a bit dramatic and renders the tree a little unconvincing.

It looks somehow naked without the other buildings around it, but when it has those other buildings, they make a great street-front. I look forward to seeing more of your modular buildings in the future.
