LEGO's greatest risks in the future
jimmynick replied to TheLegGodt's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO isn't really under threat from clone brands in terms of the quality of the individual pieces, but you're right that they're spreading themselves thin. That was one of the problems ten to fifteen years ago - but at least LEGO are mostly sticking to physical building-block products. BIONICLE was a classic theme that ran for about ten years until it got discontinued a couple of years ago in favour of HF. I remember when I was younger all the kids loved BIONICLE - I never got into it myself, but that's beside the point. The line was incredibly popular and it was very disappointing when it got discontinued. LEGO reintroducing the line is not a risk; it's bound to sell well. Pirates, while not an "evergreen theme", comes and goes over the years in different waves. That's not really a risk. But Elves, Scooby Doo and Speed Champions are risky - I tend to think Scooby Doo will go the way of Spongebob (i.e. very rarely getting updates, and not very appealing in the long run). -

The vote total crept up overnight, but I'm still confident that Larry is scum and I want to hammer him a little bit more: Unvote: Barry Cherry (jluck) Vote: Larry Larch (TheLazyChicken) -

My point is the way he voted for Bobby and not Larry; Larry being scum is mostly an accessory. CYA=Cover Your megablocks You know what I meant, swearing filter. -

Berry could also be doing a CYA in case of lynching townie Larry. -

I went looking at more interesting things. Wait, where is the metagaming? "Yeah, well, I want to know who's got what roles because I'm a scummo, but at least I've got justification." And give information to someone who isn't confirmed? Sure, call them out if you like, but if you choose poorly (probably like a 1 in 4 chance at least at this point) then the scum have a roadmap to PRs. But isn't the point of sending codes to confirmed townies keeping roles secret? -

I had a thought, so I went through the first two days (an easy read at nearly 40 pages). Here's some things that stuck out to me: That's right: in the past two days, Berry Cherry made a comment about either of today's lynch candidates (Bobby in one corner and Larry in the other) exactly once. To provide some friendly advice. While he was all over Alastair and Catarina, not a peep about our other two favourite whipping-boys Bobby and Larry. He spent most of his remaining time promoting the idea of codes, which so far have only resulted in Daveing 9 claimed vanillas. And, now, Berry has come in with a pile of things from Days One and Two that he finds interesting, and surprise! they're all things that Bobby said. Where were you when Bobby said those things? On a scumboard? Did you have to come in and completely neglect the arguments against Larry because you needed to balance the votes to save his scummy hide bark? Scummy, scummy you, Berry Cherry. -

Hmm, I thought you (or Simon) said on Day One that you went to him asking for advice about being a miller. Why didn't you look up how to play as a miller? Mafiascum says there are two ways to play: claim immediately, or never ever claim. It's fishing for other people's information that they, out of courtesy and not being able to know for sure if you're town until you're dead, shouldn't be sharing with you! Something is rotten in the state of Denmark! -

If everyone flips Oak... ... but let's get some maples! I'm going to Vote: Larry Larch (TheLazyChicken) for all the reasons I and others (Nash, Simon) have given, as well as that very scummy vote for Peter that Larry made earlier. If Lauren says that there have been claimed investigators and blockers, well, we already know which 9 people claimed vanilla, so then the scum get a roadmap to the PRs. -

A good ol' normal game of mafia where we have stumps who can read with their eyes and contribute with their mouths but choose not to. -

I'm thinking about these: Which you let Agnes pick up the slack on. Simon, why did you write a post full of pings you have against Bobby Beech and then turn around to vote for Larry Larch? If you wanted to vote for Larry on previous days, why didn't you? -
No manure, Hemlock - I pointed out the obvious with a tree-and-fertilizer play on "no shit, Sherlock". Thanks Hinckley!

Yeah. I think Bruce and Simon would vouch for each other because they're both nasty scummos who faked being investigated two nights in a row. I see you're attacking Simon's character rather than the content of his accusations. Hmmm. -

Way to answer the question, Bruce. How long are you going to let Agnes follow up on all the ideas you have? -

Catarina is right. Sure, Berty might have some confidence he's confirmed because of the miller claim, but WHY did he blab about Vicky's role to Barry? Why would you do that? Barry isn't confirmed! You DON'T blab people's roles to other people. Even on deadboards! When it doesn't matter anymore! It does make sense, but it still strikes me as a David Alastair vs. Goliath Hazel sort of interaction. "Hey, Chester, you look like a maple." "Larry, I swear I'm not." "OK then." -

Larry indicated he had a lead on a maple.... If anything, he is the scummy one for not sharing. I wasn't "fishing" at all. Also, did you miss the part where Adelaide also told Hazel to get his branches to work? "I'm a stump, I'm a stump, I don't have to think critically anymore!" Did you miss the bit where I did contribute myself? -

Here are the final votes from yesterday: These are the final votes from Day One: I've marked the confirmed oaks (our cohort of stumps) in green. I've noticed something interesting. Larry Larch has some hardwood for Chester Chestnut. Today, he's said so, and on Day One, Larry voted for Chester. Interestingly, the person who immediately discounted the possibility of a third-party kill (jumping to vig or scum only) was Chester yesterday, but Larry today. Yesterday, Larry was the one who put the hammering 12th vote on the now confirmed oak, Catarina Dogwood. And, when he placed that vote, he mentioned Chester: Also, I am interested that Maggie voted right after Nash, both days, first for Alastair and then for Chester. Were they bussing a scumbuddy? I, ermmm, none of the people I sent codes to are currently stumps. -

Care to share? Pardon me, stump, but since you are still active in this forest I think part of the burden of finding maples lies on your roots as well as ours. Do it yourself. -

Really nice, the curves on the rear end are spectacular. The wheel arches work well too. Great build! -
This is gorgeous, and the renderings show it of wondefully. Congratulations on the build!
