A quick build to get something else in before CCCXI ends for the "A Child's Life" category. A young boy works with his father and grandfather in a pine grove. While the adults cut down the trees and trim the trunks to length, the boy loads the cart for transport to the local village. I was hoping to get a full 6 builds in for CCC (and have most/all be GoH related! ), but working full time plus starting a masters plus the holidays conspired against me. This is also my first attempt at "fixing" not-so-good pictures with post processing. I'm fairly pleased with the results, but it took lots of help/teasing from one of my younger brothers who's a Photoshop genius. I'd like UoP credits for: Agriculture & Zoology - logging Anthropology - countryside scene Anthropology - life in Mitgardia Flickr C&C appreciated - now on to Book II Challenge 1!

I'll willingly echo the comments about that great fence technique and texturing on the structure. Hot stuff.

Awesome! The throne and the windows are definitely highlights; I like the grey arms on that torso too.
-
Excellent action! Can't wait for the continuation of the story.
-
Fantastic build! The structure is excellent, fig posing is spot on. I do think the snow on the roof might look a bit better if it was either tiles or curved slopes. Just my $0.02

Woah. (For the second time today!) Spectacular job on the raven. This is gonna be hard to beat...
-
Woah. This is fantastic! Rocks, tower, roof, foliage--all excellent. Great build!

I really like the atmosphere of this build. It feels both cramped and Mitgardian. How many CCC entries are you up to now?

This might be a shoe-in for the category. Well played, very well played indeed.

Yeah, that head is kind of spooky. The colors here are excellent and the structure is great as well. Nice MOC!- 20 replies

I love seeing other people's twists on the AoM categories! I like using that water technique too; I think it has more depth of color than a pile of unconnected 1x1's and it looks more deliberate too, like you had to plan ahead a little bit. ;-)

And smiling approvingly...On a more serious note, I like the potatoes (they're potatoes, right?) a lot. That's a nice parts combination for sure. I wish the edges of the base were rounded off with wedges or something though. The 90 degree zig-zags are kind of jarring to my eyes.

Thanks for the feedback - I don't know why I didn't think of that! I essentially used that SNOT technique for the straw roof Thanks buddy! Thanks Gabe! (You're #4 for UoP here I'll go mark it off on the Registrar's thread. Definitely been trying to keep that up to date for you guys.) One question though, what are "boat studs"?
-
Another amazing MOC from you! The helmets as masonry is inspired, and I love the overall color scheme.

Agreed. However, I was at a complete loss with respect to what to do with it. I certainly didn't want to tile the floor--it's not a castle throne room interior--but, the studs are kind of distracting with the rest of the build studless.

2 hours? Nice! I certainly don't build anywhere near that fast.... I do wish there were more trees to better give the forested impression from the backstory--but deciduous trees take me forever to build so I understand the exclusion. I think your photography is top notch here, unless you took a million pictures to get these three, I'm not thinking you're struggling!

Hehe - probably, though there might be more than one piece Thanks! Thanks SK, I was thinking about claiming DoH credit for the roof, but I went with village life instead. Thanks Wedge! Those tight-wearing Avalonians can keep their jesters Thanks gedren!

Erik the Angry? Nah, zero sense of humor there! Thanks! Thanks man! I was hoping all those horned helmets would help.
-
I really like the use of the mermaid tail and torso as a really big fish!
-
Awesome work with the MOC! I hope when you get the last 1% of it done, you can get some some pics up with a clean background--you ought to give this the nice presentation it deserves!

Thanks Gunman! I intended this to be a mead hall or long house or something 'viking-y' like that.
