Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
mrcp6d replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Here's one! Topic link: Clowns & Jesters -
I built this mainly for CCC, but it fits here too for a free build! Jesters aren't as appreciated in the far north as they are in the warmer Guilds. In fact, Erik the Angry appreciates jesters so little that he typically runs them right out of his clan's village--an event that is usually incredibly entertaining for the bystanders; but, not so much for the jester. PoD Claims: Architecture - wooden walls General Building - minifig posing General Building - interior design Anthropology - village life Flickr C&C appreciated!

Super figs! Glad you're building again!

5 plates worth of vertical is the same distance as 2 studs worth of horizontal. To prove it: stack four plates together, then put a tile on top of the stack stick two 1x2 bricks on the end studs of a 2x4, there should be room for a 2x2 between the 1x2s the stack of plates will fit between the 1x2s in a sideways orientation There you go! There's probably easier ways to prove it to yourself, but that's what came to mind first. For further reference: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/KimT/Mixed/Instructions/advbuilding.pdf

Gravity. Yeah, the scorpion theme kind of lends itself to that.

I really like the combination of the lift arms with the SYSTEM components. The color choices are great, the structure is fantastic and the dark background was a very good decision. Overall, a fine example of quality over quantity!

Nice! Looks like Avalonia for sure, and I'm kind of a sucker for nice looking waterfalls.

Played the game again a bit today actually! (needed a break from masters homework ) You captured the spirit of the mead hall well--at this scale it could be a TLG set.

A great take on the category if this does indeed show up over there. Sweet color scheme and architectural detailing.

Very impressive! I really like how you reused the same base for each stage. It's how I thought a lot of the AoM MOCs were going to go. My favorite part of this is the little connected structure for the tower door. Does it connect to the tower? If so, I'd really like to see some deconstruction pics.

Hey, nothing unfortunate about that! Aerospace & mechanical degrees for me. Love chemistry though--gotta burn stuff to fly

I like the tower a lot, and the story continuation is nice too! Might I suggest using more than one source of light for the photos? For my purposes, I find 3 works really well. One up high and one from either side. "Daylight" CFLs will probably cost you more than the fixtures and last you years.

Nice work SK! I really like the shaping on the building and the wrap-around roof. Hope the occupants have a good AC system! The plants are kind of bugging me though. We all know Nocty's all sorts of weird, but plant life that close to zillion degree lava?

You are a building machine right now! Anything planned/in work for Challenge 1?

The ballista is ace! The engineer in me is screaming "NOOOoooo....!" at the right angled supports for the wooden overhangs though.

Stuuuuuuuuds! They look good though, I like the texture. Did you photograph in low light or Photochop the pics?

I love learning new techniques from MOCs, and the sea grass in the tree is new to me. Oh, and the rest of the build is excellent!
-
I like the stonework a lot--looks solid. I think the random tiles as snow are just that, random. This MOC probably would have been a-okay without them and still been easily identifiable as Mitgardian. Just my $0.02

The first one in your post, yeah, kinda bright on the left-hand side. The other two look perfect to my eyes though. I like how your ship looks like a medieval cog or something (not an expert speaking here...). I feel that a lot of dark age ship builds end up looking a bit to pirate-y. I for one am glad you're back. Avalonia and the Guilds have been missing your excellent contributions.

This is exactly how I envision Nocty to look like. I would definitely stay away from that swamp if I was that kid!
-
Lovely, just lovely. Good luck with the CCC!
-
The smoke technique is very cool. Fantastic build all around as well!
-
Oooo, that fig looks nice! Where do the legs come from?
-
In addition to the nice little scene, I like the yellow arms on the knight. Nice change of pace from the green and it works well with the gold highlights on his armor.

This is a really cool build! The outpost kind of looks like a viking ship on land.
