[MOC] Probably 6265 Sabre Island Revisited
Brickadiergerard replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Now THAT's an island fortress. Wonderful. I love it. You have kept the feel of the golden age sets beautifully but have enhanced them to make something that any pirate fan young or old would surely delight in! I know the 3 young and old(er) ones in my family would do. -
That is a very marvelous set. Never got an SW UCS set before, but that may change!

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's that then. What a huge shame. It's been a good run, but without Gondor it's hard to call it a "very good run". -
This is a really lovely MOC - well done! I love the way it takes the spirit of the existing set (unquestionably one of the best of the Middle-Earth ranges) and enhances it. I'm not a fan of every change PJ made to the stories, but I think his Bag End captures the feel of the version in the books, and this great MOC captures Bag End in the films and the books in tiny plastic form. I like it so much, and it's been so well-received by my kids, that I may have to buy another UG set and see if I can manage something similar.

REVIEW: The Battle of the Five Armies
Brickadiergerard replied to ZCerberus's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the review - it tells us and shows us pretty much everything we could want to know about the set. It's too expensive for me for what it offers and when it comes to it, there's just not that much that grabs me about it. The building is fine but forgettable, the catapult is enormous but unexciting, and I'm not that fussed about the minifigs. I like Dain, but one of the things that defines him is that he's the king of a load of dour and grim dwarves from the Iron Hills, so having him on his own is a bit of a let down. It's like getting Theoden without any Rohirrim, or Aragorn in his Gondor gear without any Gondorians.... So I'll pass on this and spend my cash on Smaug and the Witch King sets. -
Wow. These are works of genius. Well done!

DC Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussions
Brickadiergerard replied to Ezekiel2517's topic in LEGO Licensed
Like many others have said, these are really excellent sets. They've got plenty of play options, they're good builds, and they're not smaller rehashes of sets from earlier in the theme. I'm really excited about this range, as are my kids - which is how it should be! -

How can you tell, when the head underneath the cowl is all white? I'm still very fond of the mk2 cowl myself - I'm more of a big bat ears kind of guy. -
[Petition] Save LEGO the Lord of the Rings
Brickadiergerard replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This. If they'd done that and then cancelled the range without the sets that were wave 2 people would have been sad that the range had ended, but not bemused and disappointed like they are now.- 298 replies

I'm interested to see how there's a divide between Hobbit and LOTR. Personally I like both ranges - it's all Lego Middle-Earth and that in itself is an amazing thing. Apart from some scenes that I would have loved to see made into sets (Trolls, more Rivendell, Elvish cavalry, Beorn's house) I think TLG has covered most of the key locations in the films, something it has singularly not managed in LOTR. Because of that coverage, I can't see what Hobbit D2C set there could be that would get any real sales momentum whereas I can with LOTR - something Gondorian. Given that they made the Tumbler to appeal to adult Batfans (given its price and source), the idea of making something aimed at adult Tolkien fans isn't entirely implausible, and something Gondorian would surely be the best option because it would be completely new territory. My guess though is that there'll be neither Hobbit nor LOTR D2C. I hope I'm wrong.

6th Anniversary REVIEW: 9476 Orc Forge
Brickadiergerard replied to Masked Builder's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great review. I own the set and like it, but I don't suppose there are many fans out there who would have said "must have a set that has some of that wooden stuff under Isengard" if they knew there were only going to be 2 LOTR waves. So for me it's an okay set, but its place should have been taken by something else. Something beginning with G and ending in Ondor for example.- 11 replies

LEGO LotR - general discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It does kind of come down to that doesn't it. The "why oh why?" questions. I don't suppose we'll ever understand that if series 2 ends up being the last one. The arrival of the Tumbler and Sand Crawler which are so plainly aimed at AFOLs does make me wonder if maybe, just maybe, even if there is to be no series 3, there might be some sort of large exclusive Minas Tirith set to finish lego's journey to Middle-Earth off. But that might just be wishful thinking on my part. If there is no more, then someone is going to make a lot of money turning out Middle-Earth-like armour and custom printed figures. -
Oh well. I like the Witch King set, Dain and Smaug. I'm really pleased we're getting them. I can't understand the logic of some of the other figures though, especially Bo5A.

LEGO Sci-Fi 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Brickadiergerard replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This is a wonderful creation. Congratulations to all involved. Going green is a nice touch too. I think we've had the 3 strongest cuusooideas sets in a row now, with this, the lady-lab and Ecto. Between me and my daughters, my family will be getting the lot! More please -
Amazing build. Now which one is Gonville Bromhead?
-
Wow. And there we have it, how two iconic vehicles can end up at opposite ends of the spectrum when they are turned into Lego sets. The poor old DeLorean looks bad enough on its own, but put it next to the amazing Ecto-1 and it looks absolutely terrible. The GB set is outstanding. I can't wait to get hold of one. Thanks for the excellent review WhiteFang.

[SoNE Freebuild] Foreign System
Brickadiergerard replied to Disco86's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Thanks for these builds. They are great to look at, and there's some lovely touches in them like the view of the planet, the characters in the bar and seeing who gets recruited into the army. That scene reminded me a bit of when Asterix and Obelix join the Roman Legions. I agree with you about fiction and not taking things too seriously. After all these are elite troops who can defeat the rebels at Hoth but get knocked down like ninepins by a handful of heroes and beaten by teddy bears in a wood. -
Great job. I want to try and make an ent that's more the height of the ones in the books than the films, and your version is a very helpful guide to what can be achieved.

A worthy recipient of the front page slot. Well done on a fantastic series of builds. I'm really impressed by how you've managed to get the historical accuracy of the structure as well as by the skillful builds themselves. The narrative is super - both chronologically and in the story each individual build tells too. It's been great fun to spot some of the little details - the centurion with his vitis and the snoozing sentry are two of my favourites. Zoom forward in time to the 18th century with a couple of learned antiquarians wandering the ruins and talking to the farmer whose sheep are grazing on them, and then to 21st century with a minibus full of kids meeting a centurion re-enactor!

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Brickadiergerard replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
I can see why this doesn't necessarily work for everyone, but as a Lego Santa-themed set it pretty much ticks every box I can think of. I agree parts of it may be slightly out of sync with the existing Winter Village sets, but then flying reindeer and 4 elves were always going to look a bit out of place in a "real world" environment. I have no doubt this will be on my kids' Christmas list, and no doubt that when assembled Santa will be flying from it to the Winter Village to deliver presents. On their behalf, great work TLG; on my behalf, don't do anything stupid with the price TLG. -
LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Brickadiergerard replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The ISD and the Cantina are 2 of the 3 sets in the wave that I'm really keen on. I think I'll try and hold out till they're on sale, but that's going to be a long wait, and I'm not sure I'll manage it. I'm wondering whether my old Sandcrawler is going to become a massive source of brown bricks, because the new one is the 3rd of the sets I really like - the new one looks so good, but it's soooo expensive in the UK. -
Lego's visualisation of Bilbo just doesn't work for me.He shouldn't have hair that light for a start, but it's the face ... what were they thinking? That is not a face to be fond of. I like the printing on this version's torso and arms - some of the patterns are really great - but for me it still ends up as quite and odd-looking figure.
