Great review. Really good attention to detail and excellent criticisms. As a Barracuda owner, I must admit I'm not all that impressed with this ship. It's alright but, yeah, I think I'll pass.

I'm currently BL'ing this set. I have a ton of the masonry bricks and I thought of doing what you did but I opted to order the dark tan 2x1 bricks. Yours looks great!

Here's my list. Sets I own are bolded. Green Grocer - Built my own in sand blue but otherwise identical. Awesome set and build - the one I wanted most. Simply the best. Haunted House - Not perhaps a modular, but one of my favorite sets. Great design and I LOVE Victorian architecture. Parisian Restaurant - Want this one BADLY. Hey Santa, you listening? Detective's Office - I REALLY hope to get this. I love interiors and this is packed with awesome details. Cafe Corner - Wish I had the funds when this was released... :( (I may try bricklinking this one with some piece/color subs) Pet Shop - The buildings may be smallish but they are loaded with charm and it's an awesome build. I love the colors and the tiny details. Town Hall - I guess I like this building a lot more than most. I love the construction of the columns and the whole Greek porch is a great design. Love the burnt orange. Palace Cinema - The marquee is AMAZING. I could do without the car and the interior is lacking but I love this set. Fire Brigade - Wish I could have gotten one. Grand Emporium - I wasn't blown away when this came. It's grown on me so of course, it's no longer available... >:( Market Street - This one is the "odd man out." I never felt like it belonged with the others and it's the only set in this list I have NO interest in owning. If I did acquire it, I would probably build something completely new.

That is amazing. Even my wife, who's not very impressed by most LEGO creations, loved this! Amazing work!

Man, Green Grocer is a b*tch to BL. I have wanted this set forever and I finally decided to see if I could build it. I had 90% of the parts needed for the first floor. After a bit of research I quickly realized that sand green was out of the question. The 2x1 modified brick that makes up the bulk of the facade is outrageously expensive - hell, sand green bricks in general are pricey. I could build this in sand green if I wanted to tear down my victorian house (see avatar) but I don't want to do that so I decided on sand blue. Still, ordering the sand blue cost me nearly $40. Actually, it turns out I needed more bricks than I thought so I'm up to nearly $120.00 in costs. That's with no minifigs, though to be honest, I don't really care about the figs for this set - the building is the star of this show.

Actually, the bodies LEGO produces look nothing like anybody - they're an abstraction of the human form. The head is grotesquely huge in relation to the trapezoid shaped body and it has monstrously thick legs! Sexualizing? No. It is a graphic representation of the female form. No one, well, maybe you, is going to confuse a LEGO fig with a Barbie doll when it comes to sexualization of the female form.

I disagree. As someone who was playing/building before the modern minfig was invented I LOVE the immense variety of faces and torso's available. Do you really pine for the days of smiley faces and 1 or two torsos per theme? I wouldn't begrudge LEGO the relatively few female torsos they produce. If my wife was into LEGO she would definitely want torsos that were identifiably female.

LEGO mini figures are an abstraction of the human form. A simplification. As an abstraction, they must portray the human form with broad strokes. Thus, a female face has lipstick and maybe eyelashes. What is your remedy for this "narrow manifestation of gender specificity"? Remove the lipstick, eyelashes and you have...a male face. Now, I realize many women do not wear makeup and appear fully feminine, but how do you portray that with the abstraction of the LEGO face. You can pick up any female head (lipstick, eyelashes) and know it's female even without a "female" hair piece. But you know what's great about LEGO? It's just bricks. So you can put that "female" hair on a bearded head to make a barbarian. You can put a "male" hair on a female head and now she has a pixie cut. You can take a "male" head and put it on a female torso and now it's a woman who doesn't wear makeup. Actually, LEGO has now produced a wide selection of female faces; faces that definitely have a feminine appearance, but some have a lot of "makeup" and some have very little. With the number of hairpieces and torsos available, you can really make just about anyone. The outrage over this is, quite honestly, pathetic.

I feel the exact opposite. To me - if it doesn't have an interior, I'm just not that interested. That's true for pretty much everything minifig scale: buildings, ships, cars etc. This is exactly how I feel.

Do you have an LDD version? I want to build this so bad! Definitely my favorite BB and yours is the best I've seen in LEGO. -
This is OUTSTANDING work. Love the interiors. I may have to borrow some of your furnishing ideas for my Victorian house

I have since altered how the windows are attached - it's more stable now. Yes, the bracket on the right side had to be removed. I'm pretty sure floor is the same depth as the original model. The steering wheel is connected with a tap piece. One of these. If anyone wants the LDD file, send me a message with your email. I will be posting soon with an update. It now holds all four (modified) proton packs (it can hold two of the set packs) and the trap. I have also modded the roof rack.
