End Of Line, usually referring to sets that are soon to become unavailable.

You can't break hinges, you're a cat. Seriously though, those things are pretty tough. I also stuff my sets into bags, then they all get put into a huge lidded tub. I haven't yet had an opened-out hinge break on me, but closing them might actually be the best thing to do.

Yah, I got a second 8420 in the post this morning, and the shock does the same thing as the one I already had, not that I doubted you lovely people. Ugh, what a useless difficult feature to integrate.- 5,506 replies

When I fully compress the spring, something engages at the top of the stanchion which makes it rebound at a different length. The position of the ring appears to have no ability to prevent it from happening. Maybe I have a dud?- 5,506 replies

Heh, thanks folks. That does seem like a function that looks good on paper, but seems to be quite frustrating in practice. I already considered dismantling one to see if I could disable the function inside the grey mystery thing at the top, but I may end up following nicjasno's suggestion.- 5,506 replies

These shock absorbers are blowin' my mind. Are they really supposed to click when fully compressed, then rebound with a different amount of travel? I've been sitting here for about a minute toggling between the two lengths, twisting the adjustment collar, wondering if I'm going to need an external assembly to stop them from "bottoming out".- 5,506 replies

True, I have two BBs stamped "34K1" and "38K4" on the side closest to the switch, featuring these extra battery cover tabs and a smooth look to the directional arrows for the switch. The LED indicators have a trans-green colour. Both of these battery boxes came from old sets that I have bought used, so I am inclined to believe that the change may be the opposite of what is assumed here. These have "59510" printed on the inside of the battery compartment, and "59494" on the battery covers. I also have a battery box stamped "09N5" with the stamp on the PF plug side, textured directional arrows, and no extra tabs on the battery covers. The LED indicator is trans-clear. When switched on, the indicator glows with a more intense green than the others. It's... lovely. These have "16850" printed on the inside of the battery compartment, and "16846" on the battery covers. I understand from attempts to compile my own offline inventory app that PF components - particularly IR receivers - have been through many revisions and designIDs, and that there have been some valiant attempts to make sense of it all in the past... but all this new stuff is just more fuel for bogglin' the mind. EDIT 1: removed quoted image because that is bad form EDIT 2: added design IDs for battery compartments and covers

I have a pullback motor with "337X4" stamped on it, so if this is indeed a production date system, perhaps it refers to days, rather than weeks?

[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Gnac replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Coming out of semi-retirement to post this, because it appeared to be missing from the index. I needed to chronicle the modifications I made to a fully RC version before taking it to bits, so I ended up building the base myself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8297 - Off-Roader [Model A] - theme: Technic Errors / notes: No string for winch / hook - the hook is "floating" where it might be if there were a string wot could connect to it. Part 50301 (LT Wheel Bearing w. 3 Snaps) not available in LDD - replaced with 92909 (3 Snap Gearblok) The above replacements don't attach to the suspension wishbones, which means that the front wheels aren't connected to the rest of the model. Part 76320 (Damper, Bic) not available in LDD - custom assemblies were made but couldn't be placed which look weird, but at least those parts are represented. The yellow angular wheels for the nifty ride height adjustment system couldn't be placed, no matter how much tweaking I did along the geartrain. They only seem to want to mesh at very specific angles. Not added to the model. The bonnet doesn't lower properly due to problems with collision volumes. Part 61930 (Func. Lights, White / PF Lights) not available in LDD PF Switch pinched from marco9999's model. Why didn't you do this one, man? LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And here's the modification. There'll be photos in my Brickshelf Technic folder when it's public.- 5,046 replies

Back-to-front, but I recently made a trippy night garden using a few Technic-compatible bits: ALSO: spot the clikits!

The boxes are actually pretty nifty; the flaps on both the small and large ones have creases which allow them to be made shallow or taller, depending on how much loot to send. The small ones have a notch halfway along one flap, and a slot on the opposite flap to tuck into when it's in "shallow mode". In "tallbox mode", it just ovelaps the opposite flap. The large boxes don't have all this amazin' tech, so the lid is like a sort of lazy bodge. I assume it's all done to simplify storage and operations, since just these two boxes can adapt to many more different shipment sizes. What to do with all those airpillos tho
-
Yodel :| As for the boxes, small orders come in a wierd thing with flaps that tuck into each other, whereas larger orders come in a huge lidded box with those plastic straps to keep everything together. Expect loads of air pillows and wasted space inside. Everything I've ever ordered has been mint, though.

Help with LDD/rotating a whole object
Gnac replied to tripletschiee's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
There's an even easier way, which involves LDD's "snapping" ability. It also preserves the relative position of the extending section of the crane arm. Place a technic brick or beam anywhere in the scene, then select the crane through the groups. There's a Dark Stone Grey 3M axle with knob on the side of the crane which will be used as our "snap" point - because it is inserted orthagonally, it will correct the orientation of the whole structure once it connects to any of the holes on the brick / beam placed earlier. -
What a great idea!

Swapping the steering wheel over to the right side? Yes, I like you. -

Technic fans can get started by simply buying a selection of sets. Technic is pretty much a vehicles theme, and the parts seem even more interchangeable than system stuff, so it doesn't take much to get started. It is my new short-term goal to use plant parts in a meaningful way on a Technic model!
