I have a confession. It was my shopping list. In fact, I bought 2x Helm's Deep, 3x Mines of Moria and Weathertop, 4x Black Gate, 12x Uruk-Hai Army, probably 20x Council of Elrond (they were cheap), and then at least 40x Wizard Battle and 10x Gandalf Arrives (again very cheap). Obviously, I sold off a lot of the duplicate minifigs. I have similar numbers of sets form the Hobbit range too. I agree. In real life (with no $800 restriction and having to use RRP) I would go for more. In fact, I did - I went for four.

I would go for ... 10237 Orthanc $200 9474 Helm's Deep $130 9473 Moria $80 79008 Pirate Ship Ambush $100 79007 Black Gate $60 9472 Weathertop $60 9476 Orc Forge $40 9471 Uruk-Hai Army $30 x2 79006 Council of Elrond $30 9470 Shelob $20 30211 Uruk-Hai polybag $4 x5 Spending $800 (pennies rounded up). There's no need to get Wizard Battle or Gandalf Arrives, and this saving is better spent on an extra Uruk-Hai Army pack. Although I might swap 4 of the Uruk-Hai polys to get a Hobbit set - 79015 Witch-King Battle $15 just to get Galadriel, and have a dollar left over.

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

I imagine you could sell off the other three to recoup a lot of that $60. The good news is that they still have the mold for the Roman shield, and will hopefully use it again in a normal retail set. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

As it is the same print, with just a slight colour variation in the printing, it looks like bricklink is classing it as the same torso. -

The tassel is still £3.20 for UK. But also that hairpiece 6135472 used to be £0.19, now up at £0.62. -

Is anyone keeping a list of fleshie heads that are available? The only one I know of currently is Legolas (part number 6123723). -

When they go on clearance, lots of resellers buy to part them out. I sold quite a few from last time they did Cars. The printed parts tend to be worthless, as they cannot be used elsewhere in many cases, but the generic parts can still sell well if bought cheap enough. -
Yes, that's very true. Perhaps I should have rephrased it as only licensed one year / short themes recently. Obviously City tends to have its yearly theme, but it is a shame the unique type themes like MF have disappeared. Like you say, there is not enough evidence they have gone for good, let's hope that they have not.

Placement of the boat is perfect. And some nice shields in there too.
-
I think what is lacking recently is the one year theme. Some of these used to be great: Pharoah's Quest, Alien Conquest, Monster Fighters, Dino (2012), even Atlantis. They went downhill a bit with Galaxy Squad, and then Ultra Agents. Of course, this seems to have been replaced by the one year licensed theme - Angry Birds, Scooby Doo.
-
If anyone had such a winning idea, I think they'd do it themselves.

What weapons and accessories don't exist - but should?

This must be getting pretty close to the rice bowl you want ... Plus there are the boxes in the Big Bang Theory. -
Only the Dimensions Harry Potter uses the skater's hair. All other set and promotional versions use the Harry Potter hairpiece that was designed for him. Lego still calls it the "Harry Potters Wig".

I cannot see them going with anything but tan for the walls, and maybe LBG for the roof.

I doubt it. - it would mean a lot of smaller sets instead of one aspirational one, this is opposite of D2C sets like The Simpsons, Disney Castle, etc. - people would have to wait years to complete the main model, which may put people off. And there is always the chance that sales are not good (or something else happens) and they stop doing it before it is completed (like in LOTR). - would late comers buy into it if they missed the original ones and so don't have a chance to buy them (at retail) - the full design would need to be done up front, only to wait years for some of it to be made - complaints if later ones sell out when customers have bought into earlier parts of the design

It isn't. Every UCS set so far has been Star Wars. The Batmobile was close, but that was labelled as the Ultimate Collector's Edition, not UCS. UCS doesn't necessarily mean big either. Some UCS sets are reasonably small. Whereas many big sets are not UCS.

It will not happen. UCS is Star Wars only. They might do a large set, but it won't be UCS. Just like the Disney castle, Helicarrier, Batman Tumbler, etc.

The buildings look superb. I don't think the hairpieces as trees work so well here, not as much as the green ones I've seen used before. Especially the ones with ear holes. The staircases are by far the most impressive tiny details for me, they look fantastic.

I doubt they care if they lose the AFOL customisers. They sell in huge quantities, and will probably keep selling huge quantities through ali and ebay, etc even if the quality drops. Although I recently got some fake CMF for my kids to play with, the prints are perfectly fine. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between fake and real torsos without looking for the logo or comparing side to side. The hands are the giveaway for me, they don't feel quite right. But for customisers, these are easy to replace.

Sauron Renovates: The New Black Gate

I doubt his gas bill is very much anyway. Not with all that free heat from Mount Doom.
