I used to find some of them were so early that I got bored of the set by the time it came out. Some CMFs, for example, used to get leaked 3-4 months before release. You see them so much before release by the time they come out, they are not so special.

There is a church (St Marks) in the Venice set.

Parisian Restaurant or Pet shop ? which one to buy?
MAB replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Seeing as you have already said you prefer one over the other, I think you should buy the one you like. -
I think the important rule for you is this one: - The MOC needs to have at least two (2) original Lego pieces in it, NO clone ones. So long as your figure has more than two parts, and doesn't use any clones, then go for it. It would be nice to see some other non-minifigure versions of Santa. CCBS parts are just as valid LEGO parts as a good old 2x4 brick.

That does look good, but I'm not sure about the "architecture scale", especially with the part count. If this location was done by lego, I image they would just use white 1x4 bricks for each block.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
MAB replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I imagine 2 out of the 3 will go, with one replacement. We don't need five modulars at a time. I hope PR goes as it has been out a long time, but that said it probably sells better than DO and I'd prefer to see DO go. I'm easy about BB going or not. There will be four for sale if we get another one in January. Has there ever been a realistic rumour rather than a wants list about re-releases of CC and GG. I thought Jamie Berard was fairly clear about there being no intention to re-release the old ones, and I hope it stays that way. Give us new ones, not old ones! -
Did you try having a brown tile (1 wide) running up the stairs each side, so the carpet looks more like a runner than fully fitted? They did this so that the carpet on the stairs could be moved to distribute wear.

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
MAB replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Have you seen much of an increase in the number of votes after the specific events you mention? Having a readership of 240000 people for the magazine and 70000 visitors at the Motor Show, did anything happen after those events. I guess the magazine is hard to judge as they will receive it / read it at different times. But for the motor show, have you monitored if it had any effect on votes?- 65 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
MAB replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Or FB is set in the 2010s and there is a re-enactment going on using an old fire truck. -
I think the fence makes perfect sense. For a ruin to become in that state will probably take many years, whereas a fence would disappear in that time. The fence looks like a newer addition. I think the MOC is lovey. Great colours and the non-square base looks great. Maybe an extra figure or two (an ally or a foe) would be good. A hidden foe around the corner of a wall may add some interest only seen from a different viewpoint.

There are various news articles about the re-release on brickset which have some information about the original set. https://brickset.com/news?query=vestas It will be worth significantly less now than it was a year ago.

Before you worry about font sizes, you need to think about your cutting skills. Try cutting a piece of paper neatly to fit on the part in question. Then work out the maximum font size you can use to get all the text that you require. It is worth printing onto paper first and practicing with that (and deciding whether it looks good) before you buy sticker paper. If you buy pre-cut stickers, your sticker size will determine the scaling.

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes
MAB replied to Wardancer's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
While the sets are location specific, the majority of the parts should of course be worldwide. It will be interesting to see if the unique parts / prints in these sets become available worldwide in other sets or via replacement parts. For example, the round tile / printed door from the Year of the Snake set was available for a while through replacement parts. -
I agree here, prices are what they can get away with, and not really reflecting production costs. I imagine some people pay full RRP for LEGO, buying from the LEGO store. Part of it is the experience. However, the same sets will be sold for 33% off in supermarkets at some stage. I feel sometimes LEGO sets prices knowing that they will be discounted from RRP. The Friends Friendship box 41346 has an RRP of £44.99, here is the amazon price tracker chart for it actual sale price ...

"These sets are special. They are the first sets we’ve created to celebrate Lunar New Year and the first time we’ve made sets for a specific country or region." So what was this set? And the following sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, pig sets? Don't they celebrate the Lunar New Year and they were made for a specific country or region. They have also made sets like Team GB, DFB, etc. for specific countries before. And loads of location specific sets like Billund Airport, LEGO House, Lester, Royal Guard, Marina Bay Sands, etc.

learnt from experience, never use storage box with division
MAB replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It is personal choice, but often sorting by type is more efficient than by colour when it comes to finding parts. If you look for a red 1x2 brick in a pile of red, it is hard. If you look for a red 1x2 in a pile of 1x2s of all colours it is much easier. Even in a cruder sort of 1x1,1x2,1x3 and 1x4 bricks of all colours it is still easier. -
Plus it doesn't stop them doing it in future. The ruling only applies to those products in the case, not current and future ones. If the fines remain relatively low, the fakers will continue to fake sets, make their money during the court case then finally lose the court case and cease selling those sets and move on to the next batch.

How to get started building up my own LEGO buildings?
MAB replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Doing this teaches you the "LEGO way". It is also worth having a look at other people's MOCs to see any unofficial techniques. One way is to look through flickr (or here) at designs you like or tutorials on specific boards here. Another tip is to not worry too much about colour to start with, build with what you have for design / form / function. Maybe try to recreate something you have seen, this helps you try to understand techniques as you build, rather than just following instructions without necessarily thinking about what you are doing. -

Why do you need a storage box for a set? I use a tray. No depth issues, but easy to sort parts into colours or types and leave in a pile. -
Your design could be improved using the newish 1x3 double jumper. along with two 1x3 tiles. It will give perfect centred alignment for the minifigure on a 3x3 base. Plus, as two feet will be attached, they are less likely to come off when moved.
