Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Wellesley replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
For now I just have paper sails, because I haven't decided on a colour yet. I will probably go with a tan or light brown cloth version. Red also was an obvious choice but I think the hull already contains enough. Unfortunately I only have blue, green, yellow and white cloth here. Will see, if I can find some within the next days. Some papyrus or paper like the following could also have a nice effect, but I prefer working with cloth. Unfortunately I made a mistake on the main sail. I wanted to have the battens on the other side. Now both sails are mounted at the same. It's not that dramatic as I will make new sails anyways. Also in this version I didn't include any sheets. I think my sails are somewhere between the "typical" sail shape and the nearly square ones I only now came to know because of Bodi's pictures. Maybe the sails should be wider. And maybe I should try one of the three mast placements below. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

Was there at any point a flag for the Lotus Kingdom created? I had a yellow background with a purple flower outline in my head, but now can't find it anywhere. Maybe I got confused by some other flags or something. Like this one: -

Thanks again for all the pictures. Especially this one helped me in changing the rig on my ship. I also elongated he hull and changed the red stripe a bit. I just realised that I can shorten the flagpole. Also the main mast could be higher. First versus second Version: -

Great pictures, @Bodi. Huge thanks! -
Thanks all! Didn't know this. Interesting, though I don't think I would have any use for the set. Don't know that either but I guess so:D Yes, it astonishes me everytime with pictures from Lego ships how big they are in reality. I tend to imagine them smaller. I was very surpirsed by the length of @Mr. Townsend Elizabeth, once I used the ship as a guideline for a schooner. Thanks:) A new pirate theme is long overdue!

@Bregir I was tinkering with junk designs today. This is what I came up with. It is just a result of my imagination and loosely based on pictures I have seen. While it is not really accurate, I think one gets what is supposed to be. Maybe a third mast would do her justice. But then I would have to buy more parts. Hopefully I can build a second little merchant ship tomorrow as well. Instead of guns I went for fire arrows. -
This is the second entry for the Glory of Corrington task "The Merchant Marine". A Myzec Trimaran that is perfect for coastal trades, but its open sea qualities shouldn't be underestimated. - For now I just leave you with the pics, hope to come up with a little story soon- I think it could be a Class II ship? R M G C $ H3 4 0 0 3 2 First I wanted to add a trapezoid shaped yard sail at the first mast, with the foot shorter than the head. But I will save that one for the Lotii ship. I could also change it to a Proa rig, but I'm content with the current one.

[COR - FB] Shot Tower, Quinnsville
Wellesley replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That is great shape. The tower looks quite menacing:) One would expect it to have thick walls. I really like the roof. -
Welcome @Sparks bricks! That's a massive introduction. Great ship! Beautiful colors. If you are working on sails, I would recommend to make your own falg as well. Not only would you have more freedom in designing it but the current one looks undersized anyways.

Great rigging @TomSkippy! @Bregir I found these pictures: Also here some more: https://bbs.tiexue.net/post2_4733210_1.html http://uzone.univs.cn/news2_2008_362304.html https://youtube.com/watch?v=DkDGnx6pHjs Best thing would probably be to ask @Bodi. -
Both hulls look insanely great! What I like about your technique is that it seems to be done out of mostly older/more classical bricks. And the scale you are working with really pays out. Hope, you had a great start into the new year!

Thanks! My parents have such an old stitching machine at their home. A little bit different though, but that was the inspiration for the pedal and the wheel. Then I pulled up a few other photos of stitching machines as reference. I don't know though how common it was to use a machine of this scale (or any at all) in sailmaking around that time. Will probably research a bit within the next days. In the Brick Seas things can be a little bit different, if it turns out not to have been the case:)

Settlement: Spudkirk, Avestia, Corrington

Hey, I wanted to present you the sail loft I build for Spudkirk. Here sails are made, stored or repaired. Intending to license it as a medium artisan, if the leadership agrees with the size. Sorry, that I didn't include more tools or interior, most of my useful bricks are already in use for my ships.

@Masked Mini Have fun building the ships! Hope, you get some more round 2 x 2 bricks for a decent price. People have asked about a rigging tutorial. Here are some first pictures of how I do the ratlines. Other things will follow. I pull the thread only through all the shrouds in the middle (in this case just one). It makes it easier to make the knots on both the outer shrouds. Also I make all the knots on one side first and use a drop of fabric glue to secure them. After drying I fix the length of each ratline and make knots on the other side. If you are really ambitious you could make a knot each shroud instead. -
Again a really wonderful ship. As always I love the hull and the way you achieved the bulwark to be red inwards. All the colours together add a lot to the impression. I also like the that thing below the gallery. The Circle with the three stripes above. Looks cool.

[LOGO Contest] Design the official BoBS Logo!
Wellesley replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Was a hard decision, but I liked @Kai NRG's entry the most. Thanks to all who put some work into this challenge. I won't get my Cat B entry done soon, but as long as no one submits one, I'll continue with it. Maybe even, if someone beats me to it, as some advertising will always come in handy. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Wellesley replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hey all, I have a few questions about the Account Summary. If someone has time and knowledge about it, I would appreciate to clarify these things via PM. -
Bodi again with another great ship:D Very nice hull, I like the different stud orientations. Brackets really are a helpful tool for shipbuilding. The colour scheme looks very fitting for Oleon. On the penultimate picture the poop deck looks bit peculiar in comparison to the narrow hull in front of it. Don't really know how to describe it. Might just be the perspective, as it looks fine on the others, especially the first and third ones. I won't say much about the rigging, as it looks very nice, but I know you can do better. Still, this one is a few years old so maybe that's why. The square sail on the mizzen mast seems a bit too square? Maybe a bit of narrowing it towards above would give her some more elegance. Does this ship still exist? Think I'll be able to take lots of inspiration from that hull for my attempt to build a Xebec. While I'm not in the ship-committee, I think class 4 is fine. The only reason I would subtract one point is that you are still building for the wrong faction:D You also seem to have a nice outdoor place there. P.S.: Ever thought about joining flickr? I would like to include your ships in my gallery.

Wellesley replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I have to agree, as I'm currently struggling on a Xebec as well. Problem was I thought, I could just "speedbuild" a ship for the Corrish Navy without too much focus on the hull (thus not getting attached to it and being able to deconstruct it). You can clearly see that I started with the hull shape, I'm used to have as a mental reference for most of my other builds. Thought it would be easy enough to turn it into a presentable Xebec after adding features like the extended poop deck, that triangular deck extension at the bow and of course the rig. But the center part isnt curved enough and the extensions both sit too high. It all seems very blocky. I mean all my decks are horizontal. At least I achieved the goal to being able to deconstruct "it":) On the other hand I learned a few new techniques while trying and might use the base construction for another ship type. Maybe someone has an idea? @LM71Blackbird Here are some other Xebecs that I will study a bit more before giving it another attempt. While I'm intrigued with the prefab one, the full hull construction could work best for me as it highly relies on plates. I just have to mutilate the deck then:D Full hull construction Prefab hull 1 Prefab hull 2 Waterline model
