42056 - Porsche Speculation
nicjasno replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The model doesn't even have a hint of the original suspension. The designers had a cool sequential gearbox idea, then proceded to make a car around it and make it look like a 911. -

The porsche is basically a sequential gearbox that has been made to look like a 911. -
Future Ultimate Technic Sets

If all future sets are going to be technically as primitive (bar the gearbox) as the porsche, i want none of it. -

The universal joint needs to move closer into the hub. Preferably by a whole stud. Get at least rid of that half bush there. -

I have decided to go for the optimal sollution rather than something everybody is able to copy. With those springs, lowering and tuning the car will also be so much easier. -

There is nothing final in any of those images. Everything can change still. I don't trust either the lego cv joints or the u-joints. But nothing else fits in here at the moment. I'll try to think of something stronger. -

Just wanted to say the same. Springs are way too hard. Might as well not have any suspension at all.- 15 replies

It's a one way clutch basically. I use those in my models for the last 10 years. -

Ok... No all wheel drive is the first thing. The front steering pivot is too far outside of the wheels, so that the wheels unnecessarily use too much space while turning, also when the steering is operated half the front frame moves. And where is the 4 cylinder boxer engine? With a ride height that low and suspension travel minimal, you could easily use the existing lego wheel hubs and make the front wishbones 5 stud apart. At this point awd would be possible, the electric motor maybe taking the place of the boxer engine in the front and driving a central diff.
