Apart from this one, I visit The Brothers Brick and TechnicBricks fairly regularly. I also use Bricksafe and Rebrickable for image hosting and collection documentation, respectively.

MOCs...detail as you go, or when you're done?
Phoxtane replied to punkkid364's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I do this as well. In addition, I don't like to leave studs exposed, so I use tiles to a reasonable degree. One other thing is that I don't like having curves and right angles butt against each other if at all possible, so I rebuild sections in order to achieve smooth lines. -
MOCs...detail as you go, or when you're done?
Phoxtane replied to punkkid364's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I tend to base my MOCing on various parts that I think will look interesting in certain combinations, and build to include those details. Many times I base the beginning stages on a certain part, then I build out from there to accommodate what I want to go on next. -
Huh? Georgetown is evolving! Congratulations! Your Georgetown has evolved into a WishIHadTheTimeAndMoneyToDoThis!

Would it be possible to get an IR remote to act as a beacon like the EV3 does?

This plane was the best plane once you had enough tokens to upgrade it to 6 guns on the wings. Looks nice! -
Worth the cost to get into 9V now, with a huge investment in PF?
Phoxtane replied to Locutis's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I ran my PF train on my LUG's layout when I displayed my Maersk last year. I think the advantage to PF in that case was being able to control my train separately from the 9V controller... which came in handy when the guy running the tracks let his young son drive the trains for a bit :P Thankfully it was a small train designed for such an occasion, but it went over the edge multiple times. I was also able to run my train at the same time a 9V train was on the same track, although I did have to juggle two speed settings to keep the trains from connecting up. -

How would you fit the receiving portion of the towball connection over the ball without redesigning that as well? The current connectors for towballs only sit on top of the ball (and encase it somewhat, but only from the one side). -
Possibly, but it depends on how I end up making the steering work. Before I leave on a trip this weekend, I'll leave a size comparison image here, as cats tend to vary in size quite a bit:
-
How do you attach the truck units to the underside? I like the proportions of 7-wide trains and I think I want to experiment, but I've no clue how to actually start. Looks amazing, by the way!

Although calculus has been dragging down my spare time, I have gotten major progress done on my tracked MOC: Another view, with the battery boxes and receiver removed: Of course, a size comparison is necessary. I haven't got any cute rodents lying around, but I do have a cat who was more than happy to tolerate it for a couple minutes: I have tested the forward and backwards driving capabilities, and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It's not a mover, but it handles small obstacles extremely well and glides over articles of clothing as long as there isn't an errant belt loop to snag in the drive gears. It'll handle the weight of a GoPro and a couple of steering motors, I think. The four red pins on the center beam match those on a NXT unit perfectly. I think I'll have to give my dusty Hi-Technic IR sending unit another try sometime

I think it would be cool to have, but I have no clue as to how they'll fit the electronics into such a small space!

So you put tension on the chassis to make it stiffer then? -
Next comes the frame. I think I'll end up using a truss for the sides to keep things strong and lightweight.
-
I think maybe if there were two holes along the top, it would work better - that way it's not dangling by one pin.

I've got a new WIP: I don't want to give too much away, other than that I will build two more of these for this project.

I've got enough stuff now that I think it would be prudent to put it all into one thread, so as to keep things neat and orderly. I'll keep each category of information under its own spoiler tag for organization I'm pretty sure you all know the drill; new content will be posted at the end of the thread and in the OP. Videos: In order from newest to oldest MOCs: WIPs will not be added until they are done and are officially MOCs.

What about putting some holes in the PCB that are big enough for a 1.5L pin to fit into? The .5L half would connect to the PCB and the 1L half would connect to whatever you want. I think this way you can avoid having to make sure that the parts that have been glued on line up correctly, and you can also get around the issue of 3D-printed parts not being accurate enough for Lego standards.

I've found that the best way to store my sets and expand my collection is to dismantle them and sort them into my collection.

Thanks for all your comments! Good point. As for the table, I believe there's a folding table I can use, and the light background will help with the lighting by reflecting more light around. I could also set up a white backdrop or a reflector to help as well. In addition, I will need a tripod mount for my GoPro's case, as I don't trust my building skills to design a replacement for a tripod mount. Yeah, I found that out after most the video was done... Oh yes - upon viewing the video, another person told me that there's one problem: I never actually showed off the final product! Overall, the criticism I've received on this video equates to one thing: PLANNING. I've got a plan for my next video, but I will have to wait for it to stop raining and brighten up outside. Stay tuned!

I know I'm a bit (quite a lot) late with this video, considering how long ago this set was released, but better late than never! The description: "Yay, I finally found time to make another video! In this video, I learned how to adjust brightness within the video clip, played with keyframes for audio fade in and fade out as opposed to using Adobe Soundbooth, thereby making the entire process faster, and upped the usage of cross-dissolves and title cards. My most professional video yet, I think. Also, there's a fancy new intro graphic!" "On the other hand, I'm not happy about the shoddy camera work and the dismal lighting. As I didn't really plan out the shoot *at all*, I was limited in the space I could work with and settled on a temporary camera mount. I intend to get a GoPro tripod mount, but in the meantime I'll have to cobble together a solution out of more Lego. As for the lighting, it turns out the GoPro has really terrible low-light capabilities, which is why I brought in a studio light towards the end. Next time I'll see about borrowing both that are available in this household and using them from the beginning." "I could have fixed these issues if I had taken apart the set and built it again HA HA HA nope. (2600 pieces)" "Camera: GoPro Hero3 White Edition Music used: "Cumulonimbus" ~ Cumulonimbus composed/produced by Steve Lowther provided by freesoundtrackmusic.com ~ Software: Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Media Encoder CS6"
