Roman Ballista
Phoxtane replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The first thing that went through my mind when I saw the shot of the beam flying towards the camera was "WHEEEEEE~" Nice work. -
My LUG did a monorail that spiraled up one building and down another once. Try experimenting!

I'll definitely be buying one, if I can save fast enough. I'll build it, but I'll take out the PF stuff as I see this more as a display model. The more L-motors and servos the merrier, I say!

What printer are you using?

I guess Lego accidentally their website.

ASK HERE MOC-stuck? Ask for general building advice here!

Technic is great for this kind of stuff. My personal favorite is a design that uses the Hailfire droid wheels, but replaces the wheel hubs with soccer balls and basket balls: This setup scales better, but requires a lot more parts: By increasing/decreasing the size of the support circles and the amount of rollers, these can support a lot of weight! -
Custom power supply - an idea
Phoxtane replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't think we're likely to see any sort of official third-party to Lego adapters. Similar to Apple products, Lego is a closed ecosystem in order to ensure everything works the way intended. -
I don't think I ever saw more than ten of these "complexes" over the same amount of years. Maybe the presence of smaller bricks acts as a lubricating action to prevent other bricks from forming connections?

They remind me of the cars from Blade Runner for some reason. I like them!

[Software] LDD2PovRay
Phoxtane replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That sounds about right. I keep the .ini and .pov files in the same folder as the .lxf files, though it didn't give me any problems the previous times I used your converter. -
Come to think of it, you could get a pretty nice wide-radius curve if you alternated a standard piece of straight track with a piece of flex track. This could be used for a high-speed train or someplace where you need a lazy curve. You could adjust the curve to be even wider if you really wanted to.

I have seen it used in the transition from a flat section of track to a sloped section, and vice-versa, because it is flexible both upwards and downwards.

I'm eager to see what the new Bricklink holds. As a novice user, I haven't even set up an account because the whole thing is so convoluted! If it works out to be that much easier to use, you can bet I'll spend a large chunk of change on there.

Ah, that was going to be my second guess - isn't this the problem where the V2 receiver trips the M-motor's internal circuitry? Either way, Zblj is right. A V1 receiver ought to do nicely.

If you're looking to combine two M-motors together into one drivetrain, try using a differential between them.

Investing in LEGO: how long until I break even, make profit?
Phoxtane replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I want to try this out sometime, but in my case the issue would be the start-up cost, and how long it would take me to see a return on my investment. -
Sets with pieces missing
Phoxtane replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I seem to get a 50-50 balance of pieces either being missing or "wrong", whenever something's not quite right with the sets I get. For example, I've got a flag piece from the Zombie Car promo kit where the clips are all squashed and mangled. What's really odd - and talking with another Lego fan in my area confirms this - the only sets I have problems with parts missing or mis-molded are the ones I buy off the shelf from Wal-Mart. Considering how it's just the one piece broken or the one piece missing, I don't think it's someone getting into the packages and grabbing the goodies. -
Review Review: 21015 The Leaning Tower of Pisa
Phoxtane replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've always thought of the age warnings as sad onions, but ghosts works just as well. I'm impressed by how the base allows the tower to lean - is the bottom solid, or if you picked it up, would it be free to tilt even more?- 16 replies

I actually borrowed and adapted the mount Sariel built for his GoPro for use in this project.
-
Sure; mount the tilting motor in the upper part of the assembly, running the cable through the center of the turntable. I don't like this nearly as much, as it increases the amount of space needed up top, but it would solve both the floppiness of the tilting action and the tilting-whilst-turning problem.

@ leoparder, DLuders: This would be more for something like mounting a wireless camera to a rover of some sort. I do have a panning mount for timelapses that I haven't posted here yet, though!
