  1. So, let's see if I understand how the process works here: - Start the 3DVia Printscreen program; disable its automatic start and bind the capture key to something that's not F10. - Start LDD, and set all the graphic controls to their lowest settings. Restart LDD to apply these changes. - Open your LDD model, get the right angle, and capture the model with 3DVia Printscreen. - Use something that'll read 3dxml files to check the results (not necessary, but recommended); currently, GLC- Player is the only program that works. - Render the model using something that'll take 3dxml files, such as Simlab Composer or Modo. I think that materials have to be imported somehow to keep the model from becoming the typical gray textureless model. Am I missing anything else?
  2. Teal, the azure blue, and dark green I think. Couple these with white and the grays it's quite nice!
  3. If you use the train remote with the servo motor it'll stay in place.
  4. I like how the guy in the middle has dislocated both of his shoulders for the sake of hand gestures to illustrate his well-articulated (but drunken) point!
  5. So I've run into an issue that isn't so easily solved with a few bricks being moved about. I'll be going into my first year of college here in a couple weeks, and because I am living in a dorm, I won't be able to bring my Lego collection with me! Naturally of course this means I can't exactly work on any of the projects I'd like to... Considering how small my Technic collection is compared to the rest of my Lego hoard, I may however be able to move some of it into my dorm temporarily. Either way, my parents have told me that I can't come back to the house for at least three weeks after move-in day, so as to have me get out and doing things for once. As such, I'll be putting this and any other projects on hold for at least five weeks, if not until I can get something worked out where I can come back to the house and work there*. So, there we have it. I'll still be lurking around here, just unable to actually build anything myself! *We live in the same town as where my college is, so it's not like it's all many hours away!
  6. If you get the pieces printed in ABS, you could use acetone smoothing to give the parts a closer surface finish to standard Lego pieces. Just be careful, because acetone vapor is nasty stuff and probably shouldn't be inhaled unless you really hate the lining of your airways!
  7. I am having issues with coupling the L-motors to the new back end, and I'm not really sure where I can go from there. I'll try and get pictures once my shift is over (super helpful, I know). 2 L-motors makes sense to me, as that's double the power I can send to the wheels and they're a lot easier to work with than XL motors. The problem is that darn C-frame. Although Zblj is right (the old frame let the bevel gear deflect away from the differential any time load was applied), the ball joint is getting in the way of making a clean connection between the back end and the motors. I would connect the motors perpendicular to the drivetrain, one on each side of the chassis, but they would end up being wider than the wheels themselves, which is a bit of a problem. XL-motors, which are shorter, have the same problem as well! I'd like to do two things: see if I can't replace the C-frame with another part that will do the same thing but without the ball join, and connect the motors to the drivetrain. On another note, I shortened up the back end a bit as I was able to remove the now unnecessary second shock absorbers. So that's one thing accomplished!
  8. Yes, it is the outline option when in the converter. I have found it speeds up the render dramatically, and is reminiscent of cel-shading!
  9. The renders were done with LDD-to-POVRay. The model itself was built in LDD, then put through the converter, and finally rendered via POV-Ray. It's a pretty good service but it requires that you build your model with LDD, which is a bit of a problem considering the bugs I've run into with the latest LDD update.
  10. Is that because of the dual shock absorbers in the back? I feel like that's a bit out of place... I will have to rebuild the back end around the new C-frame so I think I can change that as well. Perhaps I can cut down the blockiness as well.
  11. I never said I was any good, mind you! That said I do want to be able to drive it around, so I haven't got as much room to play with all the things that make a proper supercar. I do hope I squeeze in a fake engine somewhere... maybe it'll end up being a mid-engined supercar?
  12. I'll have to mock up another rear section to try out the C-frame, but how do I deal with the ball joint? Should I be using the female ball joint cup to hold the other end? If I do so, I run into the issue of the cup being offset a half-width from the rest of the frame. As for the 3L axles, is there a way to help keep them in place?
  13. I've started on a chassis that will eventually be used to build a supercar with, as per the unofficial Technic rite-of-passage: Notable features include a floating differential setup that's borrowed from Thirdwigg's 8081 RT MOC (found here: http://thirdwigg.com/2014/01/12/8081-rt/) The always necessary underside shot: The right and left sides, respectively: The back end: And a shot from the top: A lot of this is placeholder; the entire front steered suspension setup is also borrowed from Thirdwigg's MOC and as such is held on with the power of Grayskull wishful thinking. In addition, the chassis is about as short as it will get due to the fact that the drivetrain is artificially long to avoid issues with the half-width offset generated by the floating differential, and the servo motor is set directly end-to-end with the L-motor. Finally, I think the chassis overall is a little too tall for a supercar, and I would like to lower that somewhat. Basically, I'm looking for what I can improve to make this a bit more compact (and yet still have room for a battery, something essential I forgot to put into this) and what I can do to make it stronger. This project is derived from the thread I made recently about developing a compact suspension (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97809) - as you can see, I ended up using Thirdwigg's solution as it was going to be much better than anything I could come up with in a reasonable amount of time. Let's finish off this post with some nice pictures of the rear drivetrain, with and without the various supporting elements!
  14. Right then, I've done that. I have the differential oriented as you said, and it still isn't working... It seems to load properly, without the massive slowdowns that came before, but most of the parts are missing, and I'm getting partial geometry on one of the two parts that's actually visible. As in, one and a half of the holes on the beam are being shown floating in space next to a bevel gear. Scratch that, it actually crashed the display driver - the actual Nvidia kernel according to the pop-up that appeared - on my graphics card to the point of having everything blank out on my monitors for a few moments. After that, it stopped responding and I had to close it via the Task Manager. I'm afraid I'll have to hold off on using this until I can be sure of not accidentally crashing my system If you're interested, the third revision of the file can be found here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84375076/Supercar%20Chassis%203.L3B The crash happened when I closed the program after I found out that this third file wasn't working correctly. I wanted to take a screenshot to show here, but when I tried to move the camera around the model is when it decided to crash, if that helps with debugging.
  15. I did get the installer from the website so I would assume I'm using the latest version then. Is there a way to downgrade to the next version that works?
  16. I can put them up on Dropbox: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84375076/Supercar%20Chassis%202.L3B https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84375076/Supercar%20Chassis.L3B
  17. It happened again! Are there any issues with differentials in SRB? I can link the files in question if anybody would like to see what exactly is wrong with them. When I try to load them up, parts start loading in, then they disappear, and finally the whole program slows to a crawl while the one part that is still visible turns into a cloud of rainbow-colored pixels.
  18. I'm into Trains and would like to dabble in modulars, if not build my own, but I've been getting a lot of Lego Movie sets recently in order to collect my favorite characters [and I still need to get my hands on the other two Unikitty variants...]
  19. Thanks for that! I tried searching for 'spindle' within SRB and it appears to have worked. I'm not sure why though... I do actually have the part though, and that's what matters! EDIT: Looks like my build file got corrupted somehow. I just lost a good half hour's worth of work
  20. I would, but I want to keep it a secret more or less until I'm ready to reveal it as a proper WIP. I'm making do with SR 3D Builder for now, and may actually stick with it if it continues to go as well as it has. I'll see about trying to reproduce the problem for you at a later time.
  21. What do the internals of the fluid drive unit look like?
  22. I'm trying to find part #32494 - the piece that slides over an axle to connect to the female CV joint piece - and I can't seem to find it via the search. It gives me a different part each time... and I can't seem to find it manually either. Where can I find it?
  23. I too can confirm issues with the shock absorbers. The one time I actually need to put them in a model, they won't work! It'd be nice if we could compress them as well... EDIT: In addition, pins no longer want to connect two beams together in certain situations. There's far too many of these in my current model for me to be able to continue building it, so until this update is fixed I can't use LDD for what I need it to do.
  24. And here I was being more shocked over the fact that someone had managed to get his hands on the exclusives and scalp them early. That's no good, whichever side of the argument you're on!
  25. Oh dang! I always wanted this set when I saw it in the catalogs as a kid. I'll have to see if I can find one.
