  1. Well, the car sets are a bust. Looks like I'm skipping creator this year. :-/
  2. Ironic that use of the word "history" in the historic forum has done such a good job of derailing a thread in it.
  3. Stellar review as always! Definitely worth the wait.
  4. I'm going to refrain from commenting on the gender/race issues simply because I think it is a swamp of political correctness from which there is no escape. It is what it is and I can deal with that. Now this is interesting. For a whole castle hotel, I can see them being motivated to build it as generic (dare I say, evergreen?) castle so that it can be relevant as long as possible. (Re: not blue with trans orange and tank treads) I would not be surprised if it coincides with a more classically castle theme given the timing. Edit: I wonder if they'd be motivated to create an entirely separate faction like they did for the traveling children's museum exhibit.
  5. Looks good. I'm getting a Dodge Viper sort of feel from it.
  6. Humor me. Which five are those?
  7. They just could've done so much more with these. Even repackaging the greatest hits grouped by theme would have been better. City, space, historic and maybe costumed figs? Just about everyone would be into that.
  8. Dale, you nailed it. Especially as it pertains to little interest at retail impacting building and forum participation. I'll probably always build on my own, but there is just no grist for the mill presently.
  9. That's really strange. Wood not dew.
  10. Man, these are great. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I sure do like that bakery.
  11. Exactly. I already have the figs I want from the series, but WhiteFang always takes such good photography, and pulls from his huge archive of figs to show interesting pairings. In other words, I'm spoiled, and I want my awesome free content.
  12. Maybe they could sneak it in as "beverage maker".
  13. Great job on this. Would look right at home on the back of the box.
  14. I just wish the theme weren't exclusive to TRU in the states. Opening up that distribution would go a long way to selling more.
  15. I hope they don't ditch the American cars totally. A classic corvette or new/old Challenger would be spectacular. Or split the difference and do an AC Cobra. British + American.
  16. I think part of the value is that there are just not legions of people collecting outside of whatever is available in retail. If you think about it, a black 2x4 brick is always going to be applicable to any aspect of the hobby, but a razzleberry (or whatever) slope is not. I would hazard a guess that most of the secondary market is AFOLs, and the vast majority of them are not chasing minidolls. This exactly. Even if she doesn't turn into an AFOL herself, she'll always cherish the time spent building with dad, and the possibility to pass them down to her kids is worth way more than whatever the secondary market will provide now.
  17. That sounds pretty good. I do hope they keep a good mix of street cars along with the race versions. Race cars are great, but I personally prefer stuff that you can see on the he road. That's one reason the American cars were so great this year. Not covered in race stickers.
  18. <- sits patiently and hopes for a good 10 stud-wide car.
  19. With very few exceptions, elves minidolls are practically given away on bricklink. My daughter likes them, and that's great, but even she would prefer traditional minifigs.
  20. I don't "hate" licensed series in principle, but there's generally fewer parts that appeal to me and instances where there's not a single figure that I want just because it's a good, useful fig for me. That is never the case with regular CMF series, so there you have it. For me personally, a regular series is always going to be better than licensed unless the license is something that fits within my historic/castle tastes, which so far hasn't happened.
  21. Funny, I was looking at Elves sets last night at Target with that in mind. There are some decent builds and useful parts for sure. There are a couple of problems though, centered around this: minidolls don't cut it for most of us. There are no factions, armor, weapons or most importantly, heraldry. Aside from a lot of grey bricks and fun builds, that's one of the biggest reasons for us to buy castle sets. As an extension of that issue, with no usable minifigs, the price point to get some cool windows and a neat railing piece is just too high. That's why I left Target last night with exactly zero Elves sets.
  22. I don't disagree that the market for Disney is much greater than Simpsons, but going a whole year without a regular CMF series would be a disaster. Your Disney CMF series 2 is sure to come. Be patient.
  23. Whoah. Very impressive. Too many details to get into, but I do have to say that I like the saddle blankets on the horses.
  24. Series 13. An epic King with new crown/hair piece, a fantastic goblin and a unique, awesome evil sorcerer. That's 3 top shelf castle/fantasy figs in one series, so it has to be the winner for me.
