  1. I haven't, but I'm open to ideas. Any examples of part usage you can provide? I'm not sure I exactly understand what you're saying.
  2. I appreciate the recommendation, but I'm cool with it as it sits. Looks much more natural to my eye than the stock set, and that's good enough for me. (thanks for the photo, Brick Fan)
  3. Here's the latest widenification (not a real word): My apologies that some of the photos are a little fuzzy. I was testing portrait mode on my camera and while it does nice dramatic depth of field, it requires some distance and cropping. I'll try and take crisper pics. This one was really fun. Due to the way it's constructed, the sides detach from the inner structure really well which made widening a breeze. I will say however that the front end/headlights were really tough. This is a much more organic shaped front end than most cars, and I don't love this solution, but it's what I came up with for now. I'll update this thread if I find a better solution. I am however pretty happy with the lower front fascia. I think it captures the face of the car better than either swappable option in the set. Here's a link to the latest round of Speed Champions MODs (Ford GT/GT40) which includes links within it to the many other SC mods I've done in the past.
  4. These are great. Amazing what you can accomplish in such a small scale.
  5. Yeah, the centered-seating on the 6W cars drives me crazy. Most of the modded cars can fit two figs, or at least they can sit off-center so it looks like an actual 2 seat car.
  6. Dang it. One regular series per year just isn't enough. These licensed/themed series are nowhere near as interesting. I have yet to buy anything from any of them.
  7. I agree on the windscreen, but unfortunately the Ford GT has a printed piece, and I wanted to retain it. Since it's a race car, it doesn't bother me as much, but ideally it would have a 6w windshield piece. As far as the length, it kind of depends on the car. I did lengthen the Corvette, for example. Generally speaking, I'm ok if it's a little wider proportionally than the real thing because minifigs are similar: too wide for their height, but it works.
  8. I built and then modified the Mercedes AMG GT3 last night, and it was really fun. The way it's constructed, this was the simplest to widen by 2 studs of any of the others I've done. It was so easy in fact, I think I'm going to use it as the basis for widening any I do in the future if possible. It's essentially set up so that the outer stud on either side disconnects from the central chassis. It's not exactly that simple of course, but close.
  9. Man I could get behind that.
  10. I don't know about knights kingdom, but the more I look at it, the more it looks like the classic original shield.
  11. Dang man, these just keep getting better. TLG needs you on the team!
  12. For me, the mini mudflap piece used to connect the subframes on the GT40 was really strange. It's the first thing I yanked out when I modded it.
  13. Yeah, I don't know how to do that, and it sounds like an enormous time investment. Half the fun is figuring it out, so I suggest using my photos as inspiration and make a better version.
  14. I'm glad that the Elf Maiden doesn't match the original CMF elf. It's nice to have variety in design and color, and it's also good to get a unique heraldry on the shield. It'll be nice to see the full design, but based on what we can see, she looks more like a high elf compared to the earlier male elf who has more of a woodland realm sort of look. Kind of Lothlorien vs Mirkwood.
  15. Oh man, that would be cool, but I wouldn't even know where to start as far as making instructions.
  16. Fair assessments, but I'm pretty happy with these three. After close scrutiny, I'm 99% sure that the elf maiden has a skirt slope. I was kind of hoping for legs, but skirt totally works too. Not sure which shield mold that is, but I hope it's the newer larger one.
  17. Thanks! That was determined by parts availability but I'm happy with the result. I get it, and there's a lot of toy fair news going on right now. I just forget that maybe not everyone is as excited about these new sets as I am.
  18. Series 17 revealed! Lots of good historic stuff here. New gladiator, battle dwarf with great printing and fun beard/hair and a beautiful female elf with a shield and gold highlander sword. Can't wait to see the details of her shield.
  19. So... nothing? Nothing at all? I'm starting to think I shouldn't bother posting this stuff.
  20. Overall I think this is a good series. Im most excited about the female elf. Can't wait to see the details on that one.
  21. Wider is better! I'm really happy with how they turned out. I had to do some serious reengineering to the newer one to widen it. Edit: Here's the stock set for reference (thank you Brothers Brick for the photo) Links to my other widened Speed Champions MODs and MOCs:
  22. Prices were normal at my TRU. $15 for the AMG, for example.
  23. Found the new wave at TRU here in Fort Worth, TX. Now that I think about it, I didn't see the two larger sets, but I did pick up the Ford GTs. Can't wait to build it tonight and start modding them.
  24. I can't speak for Androo, but I've widened several and the best I can say is that it ranges greatly from one car to the next. Also, since it gets almost entirely rebuilt, I think that at least a couple of them may not use more parts, just different parts. To put it another way, I don't think you necessarily need a mountain of spare parts to do these mods, just a small pile of the right parts, especially the small detail ones. For example, 1x1 and 1x2 tiles and slopes of all different kinds.
